The Cost of Blind Support: Ukraine’s Collapse and the Democrats’ Dilemma

Let’s send American troops to Ukraine!

Bear with me.

IMO it is the democrats who want to see Russia win the conflict in Ukraine.

democrats are 100% gung-ho on the war in Ukraine and they’re all over X with it.

That notable intellectual Billy Baldwin:

The US has joined Russia, Belarus and North Korea to vote against the UN resolution to support Ukraine. This by itself should be enough of a red flag to unite Democrats and Republicans. This isn’t Red State vs. Blue State anymore… it’s democracy vs dictatorship.

Ed Davey:

The US just voted alongside Russia, Belarus and North Korea against a UN resolution to support Ukraine. This is a wake-up call for all those cheerleading Trump in our country.

Becca Balint (D-VT)

I never thought I would see the day when our President would be a puppet for a dictator. To my Republican colleagues, did you ever imagine that you would be in a party that stands on the side of dictators.. Aren’t you embarrassed by what you’ve become? It’s revolting to watch my colleagues side with Russia because Trump said so.

Nancy Pelosi

Today marks three years of the Ukrainian people fighting for their freedom against Putin’s brutal, illegal invasion. Ukraine’s fight is for democracy itself — and the U.S. vote in the UN today is contrary to our longstanding support of democracy. America must stand united with our allies against autocracy. Democrats support peace, and there cannot be an agreement on Ukraine without Ukraine.

The perennially witless Sen. Amy Klobuchar D-(MN)

I’m proud to stand with the people of Ukraine, President Zelenskyy, and the soldiers I joined in Minnesota to mark three years since the brutal invasion of Ukraine. They are fighting for democracy and freedom — and we must continue to support them.

Zelenskyy is prepared to fight to his last soldier

Three years of resistance. Three years of gratitude. Three years of absolute heroism of Ukrainians. I am proud of Ukraine! I thank everyone who defends and supports it. Everyone who works for Ukraine. And may the memory of all those who gave their lives for our state and people be eternal.

The notable Vietnam hero Sen. Dick Blumenthal, who wouldn’t fight in Vietnam while later bragging about his service there had this to say about Trump’s efforts at a peace plan:

DCNF REPORTER: “What are your thoughts of President Trump’s handling of peace negotiations of the war in Ukraine and Russia?”

BLUMENTHAL: “One of my colleagues has compared it to the Mafia. I think what President Trump is doing is…putting extortionist pressure on a vulnerable ally….”

You could file this one under “What not to do when trying to negotiate a peace plan.” One does not poke another in the eye when seeking cooperation.

They’re all like this- you get the idea. Ukraine is losing the war. Absolutely none of them has a good answer – or any answer- for “what’s your plan?”

There is a major problem- you’re been lied to.

Look at how Russian controlled territory has changed over the last three years

Ukraine front could ‘collapse’ as Russia gains accelerate, experts warn

President Biden’s decision to provide anti-personnel mines to Ukraine, and allow the use of long-range missiles on Russian territory comes as the Russian military is accelerating its gains along the front line.

Data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) shows that Russia has gained almost six times as much territory in 2024 as it did in 2023, and is advancing towards key Ukrainian logistical hubs in the eastern Donbas region.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s surprise incursion into Russia’s Kursk region is faltering. Russian troops have pushed Kyiv’s offensive backwards. Experts have questioned the success of the offensive, with one calling it a “strategic catastrophe” given manpower shortages faced by Ukraine.

Desertion threatens to starve Ukraine’s forces at a crucial time in its war with Russia

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Desertion is starving the Ukrainian army of desperately needed manpower and crippling its battle plans at a crucial time in its war with Russia, which could put Kyiv at a clear disadvantage in future ceasefire talks.

Facing every imaginable shortage, tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops, tired and bereft, have walked away from combat and front-line positions to slide into anonymity, according to soldiers, lawyers and Ukrainian officials. Entire units have abandoned their posts, leaving defensive lines vulnerable and accelerating territorial losses, according to military commanders and soldiers.

Some take medical leave and never return, haunted by the traumas of war and demoralized by bleak prospects for victory. Others clash with commanders and refuse to carry out orders, sometimes in the middle of firefights.

Tens of thousands of soldiers have deserted from Ukraine’s army

Desertion is starving the Ukrainian army of desperately needed manpower and crippling its battle plans at a crucial time in its war with Russia.

Some take medical leave and never return, haunted by the traumas of war and demoralised by bleak prospects for victory. Others clash with commanders and refuse to carry out orders, sometimes in the middle of firefights.

“This problem is critical,” said Oleksandr Kovalenko, a Kyiv-based military analyst. “This is the third year of war, and this problem will only grow.”

The Associated Press spoke to two deserters, three lawyers, and a dozen Ukrainian officials and military commanders. Officials and commanders spoke on condition of anonymity to divulge classified information, while one deserter did so because he feared prosecution.

“It is clear that now, frankly speaking, we have already squeezed the maximum out of our people,” said an officer with the 72nd Brigade, who noted that desertion was one of the main reasons Ukraine lost the town of Vuhledar in October.

In the three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Ukraine has lost swaths of land, managing to regain some thanks to military aid from its Western allies. Millions of Ukrainians have been uprooted with thousands killed or injured.

As Trump talks of ending war, Ukraine losing ground to Russia

POKROVSK REGION, Ukraine (AP) — A dire shortage of infantry troops and supply routes coming under Russian drone attacks are conspiring against Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk, where decisive battles in the nearly three-year war are playing out — and time is running short.

Ukrainian troops are losing ground around the crucial supply hub, which lies at the confluence of multiple highways leading to key cities in the eastern Donetsk region as well as an important railway station.

This isn’t about what anyone wants, these are simply the facts. There is no Fox News. They’re all left-wing favored sites.

It’s easy to say that Russia started this war but it’s just not that simple. Ukraine gained its “independence” in 1991 with the breakup of the Soviet Union, but it remained a strong ally of Russia until 2014, when US (Obama and Victoria Nuland) meddled in the Presidential elections to the tune of $291 million and saw the pro-Russian President Yanukovych ousted in favor of Petro Poroshenko.

Ukraine’s losses are staggering. Grok:

For Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a rare update on February 16, 2025, saying 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed and 390,000 wounded since Russia’s full-scale invasion kicked off in February 2022. He’d previously said 43,000 killed and 370,000 wounded in December 2024, so that’s a jump of 3,000 dead and 20,000 wounded in about two months. These numbers only cover military losses—civilian casualties are less clear. The UN’s human rights office (OHCHR) verified over 12,100 civilian deaths by October 2024, but they admit the real toll is likely higher. Zelensky has hinted at tens of thousands more civilian deaths, citing mass graves like one with 500 bodies in a small town. Add in 59,000 missing soldiers (as of December 2024) and 19,500 kidnapped children, and the human cost balloons fast.

As I see it, the rah rah types above  will support Ukraine right up to its collapse and fall to the Russians.

If all the armchair warriors want to see this war “won” it will mean a lot more money and a lot more soldiers.  It’s time to press democrats and necons to send US troops to fight the Russians in Ukraine.

Let’s see if democrats have the same appetite for American body bags as they do for Ukrainian body bags.

Realistically, Russia has what it wants- the separatist provinces and a land bridge to the sea. Short of a full-blown war, there will be no dislodging them from the territories they now control.

As I write, news comes that Ukraine has agreed to a mineral rights/ security guarantee with the US.

Kyiv has agreed terms with Washington on a minerals deal that Ukrainian officials hope will improve relations with the Trump administration and pave the way for a long-term US security commitment. Ukrainian officials say Kyiv is now ready to sign the agreement on jointly developing its mineral resources, including oil and gas, after the US dropped demands for a right to $500bn in potential revenue from exploiting the resources. Although the text lacks explicit security guarantees, the officials argued that they had negotiated far more favourable terms and depicted the deal as a way of broadening the relationship with the US to shore up Ukraine’s prospects after three years of war.

This is the best way for Ukraine to protect its future. Now the fighting must stop. Russia is going to keep what it holds now. There will also be a peacekeeping force in place. It’s time for Ukrainians to stop dying.

Remember when Pakistan was created (well, two Pakistans, one on the East side and one on the West side of India?)
That was because Muslims and Hindus couldn’t live together.
Apparently Russian and Ukrainians can’t either.
As part of a peace plan, I hope there is time to allow Ukrainians and Russians to leave areas that will be ruled by their opposites.
I know Russia doesn’t want to try to rule Ukrainians.
Dems are screaming loudly about “patriots in Ukraine,” and “noble fighters there,” but, truth is they’ve been in on the GRIFT.
joe’s 10% wasn’t the only kickback from all that money supposedly sent to Ukraine.
Over $100 BILLION is admitted to be unaccounted for.
But dems divert our attention by screaming noble words.
