Joe, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is.
We’ve all heard him ad nauseam. He’s going to end fossil fuels.
“I want you to look at my eyes. I guarantee you, I guarantee you we’re going to end fossil fuels.”
“We are going to get rid of fossil fuels.”
I’ve argued that this is impossible if you want to continue to live in a civilized world. Greta Thunberg, who never misses a chance to find a spotlight, made a failed effort at this in 2019. She sailed to the US for a climate conference in a boat called the Malizia II. Much was made of its being “zero carbon”, which is truly amusing. It might be emission-free, but the boat is 100% carbon. The boat is constructed of carbon fiber, which is derived from petroleum– pitch or coal, to be precise. Even the sails are largely plastic. The bucket the crew defecated in? Plastic.
And Greta’s seagoing accoutrements? Plastic
I’d love to see Biden try it.
There is an aphorism that goes like this:
“Lead by example”
We’re going to end fossil fuels? Show us how it’s done, Joe. Lead by example. Show the country that you can be free of fossil fuels. Show us how to do it. You have two years left to set the standard. It’s easy to pontificate. I want to see how it works in real life and this is your chance to demonstrate to the country and to the world that your crusade is worthy and real. Up until now, you haven’t given an inch personally to the climate crisis.
Go fossil fuel free, Joe. Prove it can be done. Now is the perfect time. You keep telling is there is climate crisis. Start acting like there is one.
