Biden’s wretched record on black judicial nominees

I came upon an article today. It proved to be quite amusing. In it I read:

“There’s never been someone in the White House with a broader and deeper understanding of the Supreme Court selection and confirmation process than President Biden,” said Jeff Blattner, a special assistant attorney general in Colorado who worked closely with Biden when he was counsel on the Judiciary Committee for Sen. Ted Kennedy. “Full stop. Absolutely.”

We’ll see about that. The article goes on to once again resurrect the smears against Clarence Thomas.

By committing to picking a Black woman — the first in the high court’s history — Biden will also have a chance to atone for his treatment of Anita Hill during the 1991 fight over Clarence Thomas’s nomination to the Supreme Court. At the time, Biden was chairman of the Judiciary Committee and oversaw Thomas’s confirmation.

Biden voted against Thomas.

Thomas was investigated by the FBI and Hill’s accusations were found wanting. That wasn’t good enough for Biden, who then smeared the FBI

“The next person who refers to an FBI report as being worth anything obviously doesn’t understand anything,”

There is considerable evidence that Hill was lying. Plus

Following her public testimony, though, the FBI agents who interviewed her sent the committee signed affidavits that Hill’s public statements contradicted her interview with them, and that she left out key pieces of information in her interview with them.

Biden was highly abusive of Clarence Thomas, a black conservative. Thomas called it a “high-tech lynching.”

About Biden Thomas would later say

“One of the things you do in hearings is you have to sit there and look attentively at people you know have no idea what they’re talking about. And it was fine. I understood what he was trying to do. I didn’t really appreciate it.”

Biden has a history of controversial racial remarks. An ardent admirer of a Grand Kleagle of the KKK, Biden has shown a particular fondness for the n-word, using it 13 times in 1985 hearings.

Tha fact is, Joe Biden has an execrable record when it comes to judicial nominees, black nominees in particular. Biden filibustered Janice Rogers Brown multiple times and promised to block her from the Supreme Court. She wasn’t qualified under the Biden rules. Neither was Clarence Thomas. Now Biden has condemned whoever he nominates to succeed Stephen Breyer upon his retirement.

In exchange for his support in the Presidential campaign, Biden promised James Clyburn (D-SC) he would nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court. This is its own form of bigotry. Thus, we will have a black woman confirmed to the Court, but perhaps not the most qualified candidate. That will be the legacy of the next Justice and it is unfortunate. Had he not promised this, had he not said it ahead of time, and instead asked for a list of candidates and then decided upon a black woman it would all be different. But a black woman wasn’t good enough back then.

Laura Ingraham noted the problem the other night when she said

“So, race and gender, they only count if you’re thought to be a committed judicial activist, judicial leftist.”

Truer words are rarely spoken.

Biden had no problem being condescending to black conservative judicial nominees and now engages in identity politics with the judiciary for political gain.

Jeff Blattner, cited above, said:

“This is not gonna be amateur hour,”

It already is.
