I don’t get television news; but I am on social media quite a bit; and the Arbery murder is everywhere. However, did any of you hear about this double murder/assassination, which I think happened about a week ago, as well:
An elderly couple who were gunned down at a veteran’s cemetery in Delaware last week had been visiting their son’s grave at the time, their heartbroken children have revealed.
Paul, 86, and Lidia Marino, 85, from Elkton, Maryland, have been identified as the victims of a fatal shooting at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear last Friday morning.
Lidia was pronounced dead at the scene while her husband, who was shot in the back of the head, was taken to the Christiana Hospital where he died later that day.
Police later discovered the 29-year-old suspect, Sheldon C. Francis, dead from a gunshot wound about six hours later in a wooded area.
It is unknown whether Francis knew his victims, and investigators are yet to release a motive.
Can you tell me what skin color the killer is? I can tell you what “race” the elderly couple are: White. This based on the amount of (or rather the lack of) media attention and social media outrage.
Of course, there is no comparison between the two tragic murder events. Each is unique (although there is some suggestion that Francis was motivated by the Arbery murder; but it’s unclear to me on whether or not this is based upon his own social media admissions or from those on social media making the assumption- the same kind of assumption regarding racial motivation in the Arbery murder). There is a hypocrisy.
In the absence of current evidence on whether or not the McMichaels harbor racist attitudes that influenced their murder of Arbery, I think this one is as good as any as an explanation:
Most of us know what a “Karen” is by now, right? The word has quickly become an indispensable part of our daily lexicon, in part because there are so many of them out there these days. You know the type; the officious busybody who can’t wait to talk to the manager about some supposed slight at the grocery store, or who call the police to report that a church has at least fifteen people inside when they’re only supposed to have ten under a governor’s stay-at-home order.
It was a Karen who called police a few weeks ago after they saw a dad playing with their kid in a Colorado park. A Karen in Idaho had police called on her after she started freaking out over people standing too close together (at least in her opinion) in a Little Caesars restaurant.
According to meme researcher and Kansas State University professor Heather Suzanne Woods, a Karen’s essential nature is one of “entitlement, selfishness, and a desire to complain.” A Karen “demands the world exist according to her standards with little regard for others, and she is willing to risk or demean others to achieve her ends.”
If that’s the essence of Karenism, then doesn’t that make Gregory and Travis McMichaels killer Karens? I mean, it’s pretty Karen-like to take off after a guy because they think he’s been rummaging through a neighbor’s unfinished home for months and they believe they have the right to try to stop him and hold him for police, isn’t it? Based on the evidence that we’ve been able to look at for ourselves, including the original police report filed after Ahmaud Arbery’s shooting, Gregory and Travis McMichaels come across as busybodies who couldn’t stand the fact that the guy they just knew had been prowling around their neighborhood (and maybe the guy who stole Gregory’s pistol from an unlocked car) was running by their home with impunity.
Only a Karen would see Arbery go past their house in broad daylight and yell out to their son “The guy is running down the street. Let’s go!”
Only a Karen would grab their guns and hop in the truck to pursue the guy, not thinking for a moment about what they might look like from the perspective of the guy they were chasing. Only a Karen would follow the guy through the neighborhood, even when he kept evading them and running away. A persistant Karen wouldn’t think to themselves at some point,“This is ridiculous. What am I doing?” No, they’d keep going, and maybe after a couple of attempts, the Karens would manage to cut him off.
Only a Karen would stand in the bed of the pickup with his handgun while Karen, Jr. jumped out of the driver’s seat, shotgun in his hands to ensure compliance with their orders. Picture the scene: the truck’s blocking the right hand traffic lane, and Karen, Jr. is standing by the driver’s side door, ready to step out into the left lane. There’s nowhere for the guy to go, especially now that another neighbor’s pulled up in his truck behind the perp. The Karens have finally got their man.
Only a Karen would yell at him to stop, because they want to ask him some questions and the police are on their way. He keeps running. He jukes right around the pickup truck, and Karen, Jr. turns and approaches him from the front left side. Suddenly, the guy turns and runs at Karen, Jr. He reaches for the shotgun. There is a boom. A struggle. Two more shots. He turns to run again, but his feet aren’t working right. He stumbles a few steps, then crumples to the street under the warm February sun. It can’t be the fault of the Karens, who are forever blameless in their own eyes. No, this guy must’ve had it coming to him.
It may be that the McMichaels are terrible racists. I don’t know, but I’m willing to keep an open mind one way or the other.
A former fetus, the “wordsmith from nantucket” was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1968. Adopted at birth, wordsmith grew up a military brat. He achieved his B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (graduating in the top 97% of his class), where he also competed rings for the UCLA mens gymnastics team. The events of 9/11 woke him from his political slumber and malaise. Currently a personal trainer and gymnastics coach.
The wordsmith has never been to Nantucket.
A white couple being murdered is just not newsworthy to the left.
The matter of racism notwithstanding, the McMichaels had absolutely no business touching or approaching Arbery.
It also may not be just a karen or a racist, a gun was stolen it just isnt normal for a jogger to tresspass.
Gregory McMichael a former LEO also plays into the psychology.
The elderly couple called a fatal shooting, why not execution style murder.
The other a murder.
Let it play out in court.
@DrJohn:
before one speaks of racism, one must think of racism in it content and structure. the 18th century in Europe ushered in the think of racism, but it was not popularized until Hiterism took hold in Germany in 1939. Count Arthur de Gobineau published in 1853, a work the would become the standard work for race theories. the work is in four volumes. the basic theory of racism is the creation of a classless social structure. one must recall the french revolution in which the elite were dubbed racist by the emerging republic. 12,000 to 18,000 lost thier heads to the guillotine during this time.
The reason this is staying on the top of the media page is because more is being exposed on a daily basis.
There were questions as to why the Glynn County Police Department was so quick to exonerate the McMichaels, letting them walk the streets presumably innocent for 74 days despite a rather damning tape. Only when the tape went viral did the Georgia Bureau of Investigation step in. Something doesn’t smell right.
It’s now reported that McMichaels was somewhat of a silent agreed deputy for the GCPD rather than that retired cop no longer involved in such things. The stench is getting stronger.
And this is after all deep red and home of the KKK GA we’re talking about, not exactly a neighborhood of historic police and black Americans friendly relationships or, fairness.
Anyone can see just by looking at the tape that Arbery attacked McMichael and grabbed his shotgun, at which point Arbery’s attack became an armed attack. McMichael then defended himself against this armed attacker. That much is simple fact, recorded right on the video.
It is very strange to hear people assert that Aubrey was murdered without even trying to come to grips with the fact that RIGHT IN THE VIDEO he can be seen perpetrating a full exertion/speed/aggression armed attack against McMichael.
This attack was after after Aubery had already evaded McMichael by running past the passenger side of McMichael’s pick-up truck (also in the video). McMichael made no move to interdict this evasion, staying on the driver’s side of the pick-up. But insread of running on by Arbery charged sharply back across in front of the pick-up to attack McMichael.
Maybe the people who are crying “murder” COULD make a case that Arbery thought he was defending himself and in this way make the case that he was not necessarily committing attempted murder when he made his armed attack on McMichael. Beven if Arbery did think he was defending himself (in the absence of any attack by McMichael), that would in no way weaken McMichael’s right to defend himself against Arbery’s armed attack.
To me it seems clear that the only thing Arbery was trying to defend himself from was a meeting with the police. He can’t have seen himself as defending against an attack by McMicheal for several reasons. The first is that McMichael did not attack him.
Further, Aubrey already KNEW that these neighborhood men were not trying to attack him, that were only trying to get him to stop and wait for police to arrive and that they were not using force in this effort. Aubery already knew all this because he had already evaded them a couple of times with them doing nothing but shouting for him to stop.
He also knew that they had good reason for wanting the police to question him because he had just been trespassing at a construction site. Now on their third attempt to get Aubery to stop the McMichaels were making it clear that, while they were not using force against Aubery, they WERE going to keep after him and maintain surveillance/contact with him until police arrived. If he kept evading they were going to keep cat and mousing him and police would be there shortly.
It seems pretty obvious that THAT is what prompted Aubery’s attack. He was trying to defend himself against police questioning and that is not a legal grounds for the use of lethal force.
Even if one is somehow sympathetic to the perverted racist idea that because Aubery was black he had some kind of right to defend himself from police attention, that in no way weakens McMichael’s right to use lethal force to defend himself against Aubery’s armed attack.
We’ve got people cocking-up in their minds the idea that Aubery somehow had a right to use lethal force against people who were non-forcefully trying to get him to stop for questioning, but then these same people can somehow deny that those who tried to question Aubery have a right to defend themselves even from direct armed attack.
You see the slip between the cup and the lip here right? Somebody wants to question you: you can try to kill them in self defense against this questioning. Someone perpetrates a hyper-aggressive armed attack against you: you have no right to defend yourself.
Stinks of racial privilege.
As always the Liberal idiots will blame Guns and the D Gun Lobby and Gun Stores for this Liberal idiots are always blaming guns for all mass shootings because most all liberals think with their mouth not their heads
