Hollywood celebrities are constantly lecturing the rest of America on how to live, what to eat and who to vote for. They’re better than you and me. But now and then things go wrong.
Like yesterday:
This doesn’t happen every day: Hollywood stars Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin and Loughlin’s fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, were arrested Tuesday and charged with paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to cheat their daughters into college.
The three were charged along with nearly 50 other people in a scheme in which wealthy parents allegedly bribed college coaches and insiders at college testing centers to help get their children into some of the most elite schools in the country, federal prosecutors said at a dramatic news conference in Boston.
Huffman was arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles, and by dinner was released on $250,000 bail. Loughlin was not yet in custody but was expected to make a court appearance on Wednesday afternoon, said Thom Mrozek, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office Central District in Los Angeles.
A spokeswoman for Huffman, Elizabeth Much, told USA TODAY on Tuesday she had “no information to share at this time.”
They cheated. They cheated the system, they cheated their kids and they cheated the kids who should have been granted acceptance into those schools.
In the case of Huffman, she made a $15,000 “donation” which happened to boost her daughter’s SAT scores by 400 points.
Loughlin and her husband made “donations” totaling $500,000 to sneak their daughters into USC.
Investigators say in the affidavit that in July 2016, the couple “agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC (University of Southern California) crew team, despite the fact they did not participate in crew, thereby facilitating their admission to USC.”
CW-1 advised Giannulli in a July 2016 email that his older daughter’s academic qualifications were at or just below the “low end” of USC’s admission standards. “Thereafter, the Giannullis agreed with CW-1 to use bribes to facilitate her admission to USC as a recruited crew coxswain, even though she did not row competitively or otherwise participate in crew,” the affidavit says.
The worst of it is that the younger Loughlin daughter didn’t give a damn about going to college.
“I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend,” she shared with her nearly 2 million subscribers, after explaining her extensive work schedule. “But I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all. But I do want the experience of like game days, partying…I don’t really care about school, as you guys all know.”

She’s a spoiled little twit. An over-indulged moron.
Huffman and Loughlin were the most prominent of those participating in the scheme
The move was part of a much larger scam that saw the wealthy and powerful in the country pay coaches at prominent universities such as Wake Forest, Georgetown and University of Southern California as well as, SAT and ACT administrator through a college entrance consultant named William Rick Singer, who plead guilty to in federal court to racketeering conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
The wealthy and the powerful.
Both Huffman and Loughlin were arrested and taken into custody and then released on bail.
Huffman has been in a number of movies and TV shows. The most recent of them?
Loughlin is a regular on the Hallmark Channel. She is the star of the Garage Sale Mysteries series.
The Garage Sale Mysteries stars Lori Loughlin as Jennifer Shannon, co-owner of the Rags to Riches consignment shop. Jennifer and her business partner, Danielle (played by Sarah Strange), frequent estate and garage sales looking for treasures to resell in their store. Lucky for us mystery fans, looking at antiques and heirlooms often leads to the unraveling of family secrets—and even murder.
Her character solves- crimes.
Loughlin is also a regular in the Hallmark series “When Calls the Heart”
When Calls the Heart tells the story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high-society life. She receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal-mining town in Western Canada which is located just south of Robb, Alberta. There, life is simple—but often fraught with challenges. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Royal North West Mounted Police Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). He believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. The town of Coal Valley was renamed Hope Valley in Episode 1, Season 2 after the coal mine was closed.
Living in this 1910 coal town, Elizabeth must learn the ways of the Canadian frontier movement if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own. Lori Loughlin portrays Abigail Stanton, whose husband, the foreman of the mine, and her only son—along with 45 other miners—have recently been killed in an explosion, which turns out to have been a tragic accident waiting to happen—a result of the mining-company site manager’s irresponsible management and lack of due care in his management of the mine. The newly widowed women find their faith tested when they must go to work in the mine to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, and compile a wage for the town’s teacher.[9]
Loughlin portrays one Abigail Stanton:
Abigail Stanton is a Coal Valley woman whose husband and son died in the mining accident. Abigail is a very kind woman, and she stands strongly for the things she believes in. She is one of the first women to welcome Elizabeth and the two women quickly become friends. When Elizabeth accidentally burns down the little teacherage, Abigail gladly welcomes her into her home to live. After being complimented on her cooking, Abigail decides to open a cafe in Coal Valley. Together, Abigail and Elizabeth move into the rooms above the cafe. At the end of season 1, Abigail enjoys the company of Bill Avery, a Mountie, serving as a Forensic Investigator and friend of Jack Thornton’s. In season 2, Abigail takes in her daughter-in-law, Clara, the wife of her late son Peter whom Abigail sees as the daughter she never had. With Bill’s past being revealed, Abigail ends their friendship and spends more time with the new pastor, Frank Hogan. Also, she is a strong independent woman that is set on doing the things that are right and tries to help Elizabeth. In season 3, Abigail takes in two orphans, Becky Hastings, and her younger brother Cody. In season 4’s “Heart of A Fighter,” Abigail legally adopts Becky and Cody. Abigail serves as one of Elizabeth’s matrons of honor in season 5’s “My Heart Is Yours.”
She’s a saint.
This is so chock full of irony I can’t stop laughing. It will be very interesting to see how Hallmark handles this. Meanwhile, I have an idea
