You get more jail time for serving a straw in California than you do for raping a 13 year old girl in Sweden

It’s all about priorities. I’ll just leave this here.

California:

The city of Santa Barbara has passed an ordinance that will allow restaurant employees to be punished with up to six months of jail time or a $1,000 fine for giving plastic straws to their customers.

The bill was passed unanimously last Tuesday, and covers bars, restaurants, and other food-service businesses. Establishments will still be allowed to hand out plastic stirrers, but only if customers request them.

Santa Barbara’s ordinance “is likely the most severe straw ban in the country,” according to Reason, but it’s far from the only straw ban. Seattle banned plastic straws earlier this month, mandating a a $250 fine for violators. Santa Barbara, however, has gone much further than Seattle — even aside from the harsher punishments its law imposes. Santa Barbara has banned not only plastic straws, but also compostable straws. Oh, and each individual straw counts as a separate infraction, meaning that if someone got busted handing out straws to a table of four people, he or she could end up facing years behind bars.

Now, I’m a reasonable person. I may be a libertarian, but I’m glad that we live in a society with laws. For example: I am glad that if a person, say, murders another person, then that murderer has to go to prison. That seems totally fair to me. But six months in jail for handing a little piece of plastic to another person? I feel like you’d have to be bananas to think that’s even close to fair.

Sweden:

Three Africans film and share on social media their prolonged bloody group violence of a 13-year-old girl in Vasteras, Fria Tider reports.

But now the court of appeals chooses to nearly halve their punishment – from eight months to four and five months of youth detention. A fourth rapist can not be punished because he is said to be a child.

On 14 June 2017 a 13-year-old girl was raped in a flat in Västerås. The three Somalis, reportedly born in 2000, were each sentenced in April for rape against a child to eight months of youth detention.

The judgement was appealed and the prosecutor demanded the perpetrator be punished.

Instead, Svea Hovrätt has chosen to severely lower their penalty, and furthermore, release one of the Somalis from the charge of child pornography, as it is unclear from the video if the girl has completed puberty.

Two are now sentenced to five months in juvenile detention, with the third released having served only four months.

The Africans plied the young girl with alcohol then one of the men brought her into the toilet, raping her. After she left the toilet, three of the men brought her back in and raped her at the same time. This led to the girl’s abdomen “splashing” and blood began to pour out.

As she cried, she was raped again while the others watched. It appeared later that two of the Somalis had filmed her as she was repeatedly raped. The videos were the strongest evidence in the case and were played during the trial, wrote Sweden’s Television.

The court’s verdict revealed that afterwards the girl began to self harm, became cold and angry. She has missed a significant amount of school and has nightmares causing sleep deprivation. The film was spread on social media causing rumours and taunting of the girl.

The court documents show that all three convicted men have dual citizenship in Sweden and Somalia, meaning they can not be expelled to Africa. The fourth person was registered as under 15 when the crime occurred will not be punished.

I don’t know what to say. The world is going nuts. Sweden deserves its fate. So does California
