You must admit, The View is dependable. It’s dependable for sheer idiocy and hypocrisy. Today one of the Bwitches of Eastview, Joy Behar, pretty much insisted that the US go to war with the Russians.
Today on ABC’s The View, the panelists had a lot to say about Donald Trump and his relationship with Russia. As other public figures have proven in the last few days, there was certainly plenty to discuss, given his reported Secretary of State pick is a good friend of Vladimir Putin‘s and the CIA has now said that Russia absolutely attempted to sway the election by hacking into various email accounts and databases.
The Russians “absolutely attempted” to way the election? Let’s have a look at that WaPo report. It reports:
The CIA has concluded in a secret assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency, rather than just to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system, according to officials briefed on the matter.
Intelligence agencies have identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided WikiLeaks with thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others, including Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, according to U.S. officials. Those officials described the individuals as actors known to the intelligence community and part of a wider Russian operation to boost Trump and hurt Clinton’s chances.
Now for the fine print:
The CIA presentation to senators about Russia’s intentions fell short of a formal U.S. assessment produced by all 17 intelligence agencies. A senior U.S. official said there were minor disagreements among intelligence officials about the agency’s assessment, in part because some questions remain unanswered.
For example, intelligence agencies do not have specific intelligence showing officials in the Kremlin “directing” the identified individuals to pass the Democratic emails to WikiLeaks, a second senior U.S. official said. Those actors, according to the official, were “one step” removed from the Russian government, rather than government employees. Moscow has in the past used middlemen to participate in sensitive intelligence operations so it has plausible deniability.
So, to be clear, they really don’t have anything. The echo chamber known as the NY Times jumped in as well:
WASHINGTON — American intelligence agencies have concluded with “high confidence” that Russia acted covertly in the latter stages of the presidential campaign to harm Hillary Clinton’s chances and promote Donald J. Trump, according to senior administration officials.
They based that conclusion, in part, on another finding — which they say was also reached with high confidence — that the Russians hacked the Republican National Committee’s computer systems in addition to their attacks on Democratic organizations, but did not release whatever information they gleaned from the Republican networks.
Now everyone is wetting their depends, including two of Donald Trump’s most vocal GOP critics:
A secret CIA assessment uncovered by the Washington Post on Friday concluded that Russia intervened in the U.S. presidential election to help Trump win the White House.
The revelation prompted a Sunday statement from Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), that seemed designed to cool partisan fighting.
Their call for an investigation said the recent cyberattacks “have cut to the heart of our free society.”
But hang on a second. Didn’t obama say there was no interference with our elections? Why, yes he did.
The Obama administration said it has seen no evidence of hackers tampering with the 2016 presidential election, even as recount proceedings began in Wisconsin.
“We stand behind our election results, which accurately reflect the will of the American people,” a senior administration official told POLITICO late Friday.
“The federal government did not observe any increased level of malicious cyber activity aimed at disrupting our electoral process on election day,” the official added. “We believe our elections were free and fair from a cybersecurity perspective.”
The RNC denies, despite what the Slimes says, that it has been hacked and no evidence of hacking has been offered. The FBI disagrees with the CIA about the motivation:
The political world has been shaken by the reports about the CIA’s apparent determination that Russia intervened in the election to help Donald Trump. However, an FBI official reportedly gave a presentation before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence this weekend, and said the CIA’s claims were “fuzzy” and “ambiguous.”
John Brennan is the CIA director and he has a history of lying. In fact the very same WaPo that places all its eggs in the CIA basket was calling for Obama to fire Brennan two years ago. So color me skeptical about CIA claims.
But there are a couple of other issues. First- why are we so bothered by Russia? According to obama, the Cold War is over
Second, Behar and democrats are worried about Trump being friends with Putin and Russia? They seem to have forgotten how obama promised to bend over for Putin:
“Mr Obama says: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defence, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.”
Mr Medvedev replies: “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you …”
Mr Obama retorts: “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.”
I don’t recall democrats screaming about the hammer and sickle on our flag back then. I don’t recall democrats complaining about obama being too chummy with Vlad.
Third, is it really hacking if you willingly give out your password? clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta willingly gave out his email account password in a phishing expedition:
The Podesta spear-phishing hack was instigated with an email that purported to come from Google informing him that someone had used his password to try to access his Google account. It included a link to a spoofed Google webpage that asked him to change his password because his current password had been stolen. The link to the spoofed webpage included a long chain of seemingly random alphanumeric characters that looks like gobbledygook to most people. In fact the gobbledygook contained a Bitly encoded string containing Podesta’s name and email address that was inserted into the spoofed webpage to make it look authentic.
Podesta clicked the link and changed his password. Or so he thought. Instead, he gave his Google password to Fancy Bear and his emails began appearing on WikiLeaks in early October.
So why all the fuss? Didn’t democrats tell us no one cares about clinton’s emails? Huffington Post said no one cared:
The American people are sick and tired of hearing about her damn emails. There’s no smoking gun in the report. If that makes you unhappy, blame the liberal media.
Newsweek called it a “nothing burger.”
And yet now they do care- perhaps because they lost and need some excuse for that loss other than their candidate was highly flawed. As for hacking, the solution is simple: if you want to stop this “hacking”, choose a better candidate with a better campaign chairman. Stop sending emails with incriminating information that makes you look so criminal. Don’t willingly hand over your email passwords. And perhaps it would be appropriate to care more about jobs than putting men into toilets with little girls.
People got more information about hillary than the DNC banked on- they got the truth. That’s what has the left wing panties in a twist. The voting was not interfered with, the Cold War is over, obama promised to be flexible with Vladimir Putin.
There is nothing to this story, other than donkey dust.
