Any sources that present information that runs counter to your views will be dismissed as liberal or leftist. Wikipedia, for example, is a leftist site, never to be trusted. The fact that primary sources for the information presented there are footnoted is disregarded entirely. An article such as this one most likely won’t even be read: Far-right politics.

I have no problem with it, because I understand it in the context of the history I learned in elementary school, high school and college. There may be points I question or consider to be inadequately documented, but that’s true of most sources. Nothing can be taken as a infallible source that’s accurate 100 percent of the time. Nor can any person.

I’ve watched a lot of cable documentaries concerning the rise of National Socialism over the years. Nothing I’ve ever seen has suggested to me that the Nazis were leftists, either by action or by generally agreed upon definition. Until recently, they’d always been recognized as a right wing authoritarians, just as Stalin was recognized as a left wing authoritarian. Once you’re dealing with extreme authoritarianism, right or left becomes a bit academic.

A lot of people on the right simply want the definition to be changed, as that casts their own politics in a better light. Sorry. Their comfort and convenience is not my concern. Nor will I see Donald Trump as anything other than a disaster waiting to happen. That’s what many attentive people see, republicans as well as democrats.

I am not the one who’s making a claim that goes against the long standing norm. Most historians have viewed Hitler as a right wing extremist since the 1930s. That the National Socialists were left wing extremists was never a widely held view. It has only gained currency since the political right discovered the internet and began a campaign of historical revisionism, and it has only gained currency on the right.

You can’t tell me otherwise, because my first history classes were in the 1950s. I know what was taught because I was in the classrooms to hear it being taught. I know what the prevailing view has been for over 60 years because I’ve been here and have paid attention for that long.

@Ditto: Isn’t it amazing at the what the left uses to support their arguments? I read an excerpt from one of Tony Judt’s last pieces of work. In it, he essentially argued for the merits of socialism and Keynesian economics, which isn’t a surprise given his Marxist roots. To back up his arguments, he utilized graphs that “proved” his points. The graphs all had an ‘x’ and ‘y’ axis along with a line. None of the axis’s were labeled as to what they were for. In addition, there were no values given nor were any references as to where he got his data. We were just supposed to accept his word that whatever was depicted in those graphs, supported his argument. In addition, I checked out his claims on life expectancy against the CIA World Factbook and found those to be total bullshit. Yet he is regarded as one of the most highly respected European historians (he died shortly after writing this book). And to think he was one of the best the left has(d) to offer.

Greg is becoming weary of talking to people who haven’t got the wits to figure out what Hitler was in retrospect, and who aren’t prescient enough to see that Trump could be serious trouble, if not major disaster.

California reservoirs aren’t filled to maximum capacity during periods of predictable winter rain because unexpected storms would then result in floods. The article points that out. Have you suddenly found faith in computer weather models? The author apparently thinks they can be relied upon to the point of risking property and public safety. Your second link is to the same article, cloned to some far right website.

The third link has to do with Trump’s 3-inch fish meme. It exploits localized anger over water allocation among competing industries and interests during a time of shortage, possibly drawing unconsciously on the backstory from Chinatown to lend the argument an air of credibility.

The truth is that there actually has been a drought in California, that such a shortage will always be felt, and that making any one competing interest totally happy would be at the expense of somebody else. Water does run down rivers to the sea. Even in times of drought. You can’t totally turn off rivers to the exclusive benefit of a particular area of farms without creating serious consequences somewhere else, for someone else.

That, of course, goes deeper into an issue that Donald Trump will ever get. He just wants to exploit a useful, superficial political meme. That’s all he does with any issue. And the one-size-fits-all red hat brigade are apparently content with not knowing what lies deeper—not only with the issues, but with the person of Donald Trump himself. You sort of conveniently ignore, forget, or pretend hasn’t happened the events at Trump rallies in Chicago, New Mexico, California and Arizona… violence instigated by Soros-funded and instigated Bernie and Hillary supporters. These thugs need to be beaten and it needs to be celebrated.

For far too long, the left, the purveyors of the violent protest, have acted with impunity as they try to intimidate with their violent attacks. It’s way past time to begin giving back what is being received from these left wing thugs.

@Greg: What are they upset about? Most have no idea. They have been bused in, handed a payment and a sign and told to go at it. Some are angry over Trump wanting to deport all immigrants… which is, of course, a blatant lie they have been fed, which they are quite simply too stupid to know the facts of.

And many are upset over the crumbling of the liberal agenda. They are upset over the upcoming loss of power. Upset over not having an answer for the failure of their entire agenda. Trump has made similar comments at numerous political rallies. You wouldn’t expect angry Hispanics who take pride in their nation of origin to show up and wave flags in the face of such public insults? A person would have to be totally clueless not to expect such a reaction.

Words matter. There’s little question what words like these can encourage and provoke. Listen closely.
