Rep. Henry Cuellar hoped the immigration mess would not become Obama’s Katrina moment.
It has.
The difference between Bush and Obama is that Bush cared. He might have taken too long to make decisions, but he did care. Obama doesn’t care about anything other than himself.
As we’ve noted here, Barack Obama has effectively imposed Martial Law on detention sites which house illegal aliens who are flooding across the border. A member of United States Congress was denied access to Fort Sill and was told he has to make an appointment. Then the administration announced put the hammer down. Among the rules:
– No recording devices will be allowed
– No questions will be allowed during the tour
– No interacting with staff and children at the shelter
– We ask that your questions be provided via email or phone after the tour to Kenneth Wolfe
– HHS ACF public affairs will provide answers to your follow up questions as quickly as possible
– We will provide photos of the facility after the tour
– There will be no on-site interviews by HHS staff before or after the tour, all inquiries go to Kenneth Wolfe
These are draconian restrictions and they are there for a reason- a political reason. The illegal invasion crisis is Obama’s Katrina. These rules are meant to limit the political damage to Obama and the truth has been locked into a closet.
Let’s imagine another scenario. Let’s imagine George W. Bush was more concerned about his political fortune than he was about the people of New Orleans. Let’s imagine Bush decides to lock reporters out of New Orleans. Let’s imagine Bush effectively imposes Martial Law on New Orleans. Let’s imagine that Bush allows reporters into New Orleans but only if the media promises not to record anything, not to ask any questions during the tour, and not to talk to any of the staff members or people living there. Imagine Bush denying democrat members of Congress access to New Orleans.
Just imagine.
Imagine the outpouring of indignation from the NY Times and the Washington Post. Imagine the words that would have flown from MSNBC.
Just imagine.
Unfortunately, there is no such outcry from a press overwhelmingly obsequious to the current resident of the White House.
Good Morning America is spending a lot of time right now talking about Jessica Simpson’s wedding and vanity sizing of clothes but nothing about the illegal immigrant invasion. Barack Obama is head to Texas for three fundraisers but refuses to put in an appearance at the mess he created.
Obama overflies the border crisis
Nothing says caring like avoiding a disaster you created while wining and dining with the liberal elite. This is as crass as it gets. But let us be honest. It’s all about the optics. Obama does not want his image tarnished appearing next to an illegal alien who could be an MS-13 drug cartel member. Obama does not want to risk contracting TB or lice or scabies. He does not want his hands dirtied.
Obama had assured us that he would act to deport these invaders promptly but you knew that would not happen because of Obama’s intrinsic lack of honesty. Sure enough, he now backs away from those assurances.
Obama has asked for $3.7 billion for handling the border mess but is already adding unrelated issues into the request. Most of the money will go for the housing and feeding and for lawyers to aid these invaders in staying here. WE are paying for this- not Central American countries. The $3.7 billion is a down payment- a drop in the bucket compared to the future costs that we taxpayers will bear.
That $3.7 billion is a bandaid on a severe laceration. If the problem is the conditions in Central American countries this invasion will not end until all the children of Central America occupy the US. That will effectively destroy the US and turn it into the cesspool that Central America is now. What kind of people send 4 year olds to cross a national border alone?
Ironically, Barack Obama could wind up being the Founding Father of
Los Estados Desunidos de América del Norte
There’s another difference between Katrina and this disaster. Bush did not create Katrina.

Pelosi waxes motherly over the plight of illegal immigrant children… so, send 50 or so to her home. Let a couple thousand camp out in some of her vineyards. Send a few hundred to Oprah’s mansion. Let Michael Moore have a dozen or so. Certainly there is a long waiting list of liberals with extensive properties (the Clinton’s ALWAYS have a home they aren’t using… let a couple hundred squat in one of those) that are willing to take these waifs in at their own expense. Surely.
Get Obama’s donor list from Dallas… each person on the list gets 10 buggy kids (I’m sure the IRS would be more than happy to turn the list over). Liberals LOVE being generous.

I agree with your solution. I wish it could happen. In my mind I see Nancy and her new little brood cavorting through the vineyards.

Dr. John, the profound difference in the Katrina of the Bush era and what you dub as the “Obama Katrina” is that in the “non-imaginary world” under the “Bush Katrina (you know, the real one) almost 2000 American citizens perished. Bush, as you admit “he might have taken too long to make decisions” makes decisions which that ultimately end up with some $2K chicken in every pot slush fund with “mission accomplished” accolades to Brownie while exposing an abject incompetency which hard working Americans quickly picked up on, only to see the ongoing inept administration continue their dog and pony show to a less than impressive audience to that of the Obama administration which, which, uh, what precisely was your argument again?
The best I can get from your argument is “Let’s imagine another scenario” referencing an imaginary world in which Bush did this or Bush did that in which you amusingly spin into some imaginary conclusion that “Bush cared” whereas Obama, well, socialist, Marxist, Hitler and whatever else that renders Obama out to “effectively destroy the US and turn it into the cesspool that Central America is” is that, well, ya know, uh, at least Bush cared so take that, or something!
Do writers like you compete for stupidity awards or something?
Ron,
Repeat in English, please.
Pop quiz time!
Under the provisions of the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, undocumented children from non-contiguous foreign nations who arrive in the United States unaccompanied by an adult cannot be involuntarily deported until they have been provided with legal counsel and have had a formal immigration court hearing. As of March 2014, pending backlog in U.S. Immigration Court was 366,748 cases. Thus the United States is pretty much stuck with any unaccompanied Central American minors who are deposited on the nation’s doorstep.
Question: Which U.S. president signed this bill into law?
(Hint: It isn’t the one who has deported more undocumented aliens than any other president in recent U.S. history.)
Immigrant Surge Rooted in Law to Curb Child Trafficking
Immigration Court Backlog
@Greg:
Oh, yes, let’s examine who signed the “reauthorization” act into law, while you ignore who the signer of the original bill was waaaaay back in 2000. Remind us again, Greggie, who was president in 2000?
Surely you are not going to try to push the meme that Obama deported more undocumented aliens that Bush again. I printed out the numbers from the government web site just hoping you would.
The point is that it wasn’t Obama who signed into law the bill that makes it impossible to effectively deal with the current flood of unaccompanied alien minors.
What exactly do republicans propose that Obama do? Enforce the law?
It’s the impracticality of a law that Congress constructed that has created the problem. The law requires that an immigration court hearing be held for each kid before he or she can be deported. There’s already an immigration court backlog approaching 400,000 cases.
The truth of the matter is that it’s Congress that will have to do something. They should try doing something for a change. They might actually prove to be useful.

The current “crisis” has been in the works for a long time. Get the kids here any way we can. Then their parents have to join them. Then amnesty the whole lot. Result? another several million guaranteed Democrat votes, and a permanent Democrat majority. Then we can be as progressive as Mexico and be ruled by drug gangs.
Oh, wow. What a hope and change! And the US will be pushed off the world stage, and someone else can fight for freedom. End of US. End of us.
Thanks, lame stream media!
@Ronald J. Ward: @Ronald J. Ward:
Since I am sure you are not intimating that Bush murdered 2000 people (not too far fetched, but correct me if I assume wrong) then we agree that Katrina was an act of Mother Nature. Though you choose to ignore such biting details such as the warnings and assistance Bush offered beforehand (ignored by the Democrat leadership), the deaths were out of Bush’s control.
Now, to the most recent “Katrina”. Obama’s Katrina is a man-made disaster (again assuming you will agree with me that Obama is, indeed, a mere mortal). While the legislation that makes non-Mexican waifs more difficult to deal with, the massive flood of these particular illegals is due solely to Obama’s demonstration that, when it comes to illegal immigrants, no law is too sacred that it cannot be disregarded, as he took the twice Congressional-rejected Dream Act and simply enacted it by edict.
Bush: unable to control the forces of nature, disaster. Obama: unable to control his big, lying mouth and socialistic tendencies, disaster.
@Greg:
The point IS that it was a Democrat who originally signed the bill. HR 7311 was not even a roll call vote, but a unanimous voice vote, making it veto proof. Bush could have refused to sign it, but it would have just been overridden by Congress.
Since when is violating the law a problem for Obama? He has violated the ACA more times than we can count. All for political purposes trying to stem the tide that is going to hit Democrats square in the face in November.
And what is Obama’s response to lack of immigration courts to process these children? Oh, that’s right; out of a $3+ billion request, $50 million for immigration courts and judges. And you fail to admit that the backlog in the immigration courts has never been greater than it is now. Time wasted when the illegals fail to show (as they do 99% of the time) and have to be rescheduled again, and again, and again.
Perhaps you should read HR 7311. It applies ONLY to those children that have been trafficked for sex purposes. Obama could order that ICE deport those tattooed gangbangers who claim to be under 18 yet he doesn’t and we’re seeing the MS-13 graffiti spray painted on Border Patrol station walls.
Admit it, Greggie. You support the biggest failure to ever set foot in the Oval Office.
@retire05, #12:
As usual, you’re missing the obvious. While the bill was in fact intended to address human trafficking specifically in connection with undocumented children, one of the protections it affords to every unaccompanied, undocumented minor is the guarantee of an immigration hearing to formally determine if they’re trafficking victims before they can be deported. They have a guaranteed right to counsel to argue their case. The bill also mandates that they be provided for until that formal hearing can take place. If you had bothered to read HR 7311 yourself, you would have found that all clearly spelled out in black and white.
Maybe you should consider admitting you have an anti-Obama fixation that prevents you from viewing pretty much anything objectively. You seem to believe only what the right wing propaganda machine is constantly telling you: That if something is wrong, Obama is somehow responsible.
Dr j is soooo compassionate I am just waiting for him to say that these illegal kids should be denied all medical care
I sometimes wonder exactly what kind if a doctor he is surely he could NOT be a pediatrician my best guess would be a pathologist here we have 10’s of thousands of kids in dire circumstances but Mary a peep from him as to how they should be helped
Yet Obama has allowed more than half of all these unaccompanied children to be picked up (and taken into the USA out of these holding camps) by NON-PARENTS!
Many of the children are being picked up by the same few adults.
Sex trafficking might be in their future…..in the USA.
Being minors, they can be used by gangs in the USA to hold and transport drugs and guns.
@John: You obviously lack any understanding of Public Health Care.
See, a public health expert knows that contagious diseases like measles, mumps, chicken pox, TB, drug-resistant TB, scabies, head and body lice, etc., all should be monitored and as best possible the infected should be quarantined.
But what has the border patrol been doing?
Putting these infected people on PUBLIC BUSES and PLANES.
Next time that public bus and plane is used it is filled with the general public!!!
Border Patrol even admit they are not even TESTING for any communicable diseases.
Sick ”children” are being shipped into your town.
Your own neighbors and workmates are sitting in seats that expose them to all these germs.
You will get something, eventually as your immune system diminishes with age.
Disease vectors are out of control as a result of Obama’s policy at the border.
@Greg:
Actually, I’m not. Section 235 is quite clear that HHS is to report to Congress, once a year, on the age, sex, nationality of those who have been “repatriated” under HR 7311, including children from NON-contiguous nations. Can you provide us with those Congressional reports for the last few years? Just take the years beginning with Obama’s pen and phone policy of granting amnesty for “dreamers.”
While I am not “fixated” on Obama, as you clearly seem to be as the defender of all things Obama, I will admit to being against him politically. He is the antithesis of everything I believe in, things that were, at one point, set in stone by the authors of the U.S. Constitution. But then, I am politically against his party which has managed to purge itself of all bluedogs and the only thing remaining are the true progressives (i.e. Socialists).
That is pretty funny coming from you, Greggie, as you spout the talking points of OFA, Huffington Post and DailyKos, day after day after day. You have become so indoctrinated you can not see the emperor has no clothes.
In ten days, Obama will have been President for 66 months. His refusal to accept responsibility for anything wrong with his administration (not a smidgen of corruption at the IRS) and his constant use of the Blame Bush meme has seen its shelf life expired after his first term. What we have now is President Campaigner and a man who is totally disinterested in doing the job he was elected to do. And useful idiots like you continue to play three monkeys.
@Greg: Greggie, it wasn’t Bush who lied to America and said if you like your doctor and/or insurance you can keep them “period”!! It was o-blama. NO Republicans voted for this disaster which is a complete failure. It was 70 Democrats who supported the military action in Iraq!! BTW, any proof yet that Romney cheated on his tax return? Still waiting for proof. Until then you’re a liar!!
@retire05, #17:
What does the requirement for annual summary reports to Congress have to do with the fact that the legislation requires each child in custody be provided with legal counsel, and an immigration court hearing and determination regarding their status as human trafficking victims before there can be a deportation? Nothing whatsoever. You’re just attempting to divert attention from what is actually causing the problem you’re ranting about: Namely, the hearing requirement which was created by Congress, and the fact that that a 400,000 case backlog in immigration court has created a state of virtual gridlock.
What do republicans expect Obama to do about it? Wave a magic wand?
Congress needs to either revise the requirements it created, or to provide funds to allow for the increased court system capacity that’s needed to process the workload. This isn’t rocket science. Congressional republicans should quit playing stupid—assuming, of course, that their stupidity really is nothing more than an act. About that, I am becoming increasingly doubtful.
@Greg:
Greggie, I love it when you try to build a strawman. You become the fish in the barrel.
What does that report have to do with anything? A lot. As the number of unaccompanied children has been rapidly increasing for the last three years, it would show how well HHS is handing the repatriation of these unaccompanied illegal children. But I guess you couldn’t find the report (no surprise there because the Obama administration has been absolutely lame when it comes to complying with the laws).
It would also show that the Administration, including Obama’s HHS cabinet member, had a hand on the increase in numbers by devoting more resources to dealing with the issue.
Why is there such gridlock in the immigration courts, Greggie? Did Obama not see this coming, even when in January his administration advertised for care takers for the Administration’s estimated number of 65,000 unaccompanied illegal children that would be required in the coming months? Did Obama, who seems to be absolutely clueless as to what is going on in the real world, have to read about the border crisis in the newspapers where he seems to get ALL of his information? THEY (the Administration) KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AND THEY DID NOTHING.
One other thing, Greggie; HR 7311 protects children who have been trafficked for sex. Not the children who are telling Border Patrol that they came to the U.S. because they believed Obama gave them permisso.
Meanwhile, we have a U.S. Marine rotting in a Mexican jail for taking a wrong turn, and as we all still have the image of Obama standing with the parents of a deserter in the Rose Garden, Sgt. Tamorrissi’s mom can’t get even a shout out from Obama. I would happily trade you for that Sgt. or maybe we could trade Beau Bergdahl for Sgt. Tamorrissi.
My God, Greggie. Wake the hell up. Sooner or later reality is going to hit you square in the a$$. Better now than later.
The fact that you repeatedly say such things doesn’t make them so.
Congress passed legislation that requires each such undocumented kid to be given a court hearing. President Bush signed the bill into law. So, now undocumented kids are waiting for their hearings, and the line they’re waiting in is around 400,000 persons long. That means they’re going to be waiting for a while.
It’s a simple matter of cause and effect. When Congress does things, or fails to do things, there are results in the real world. They can whine and complain and point fingers at the President all they want. Obama didn’t cause it, and so long as they sit on their butts doing nothing but complaining, what he can do on his own about it is quite limited.
I’ve noticed they also go totally nuts when he attempts to act because they won’t.
@Greg: You repeatedly miss the overriding point. No one opposes humanitarian care for the children. No one denies there was a specific purpose for the law that is now hamstringing the ability to handle the flood of humanity currently swarming our border. The problem is Obama.
We had very few of these specific illegal immigrants that fall under the scope of this law. Since Obama hung his giant, chrome spinner bait with the feathers and rattlers on it to lure hundreds of thousands of illegals seeking amnesty and government aid by advertising he would be more than happy to swing open the gates that no one will bother to erect and ignore whatever law is necessary to mine for votes and interest group support. This entire humanitarian disaster is a byproduct of Obama policy… or it is the goal. Hard to tell.
@Greg:
Greggie, it has been quite obvious for a long time that you seem to be unaware of exactly how transparent you are, and how much of a fool you are willing to make of yourself in order to defend Obama. The transparent part being your attempt to dodge, spin an obfuscate issues when it comes to Barrack Hussein Obama, Jr. Unfortunately, the only person you ever convince of your success at doing that is you.
Yes, Congress passed that legislation, originally in 2000 under Bill Clinton. And they passed a “reauthorization” bill in 2005 and 2007, as well. Every time it was passed, it required a report on the repatriation of those unaccompanied illegal minors to be given to Congress. Can you tell me what that was done?
Now, you can continue to parrot the same talking points, over and over again, and it doesn’t change the fact that the bill has been in effect since 2000, and the increase of unaccompanied illegal children has been skyrocketing since 2011, and this administration took no action to increase the number of immigration courts to deal with the increase in the problem. NONE. No request for more immigration courts, no request for more resources on the border, and now we have the crisis we do that is the forerunner of a health crisis like this nation has not seen in decades.
That’s a lie.
Obama most certainly did cause this crisis when he, through Executive fiat, put into play the “Dreamer” act that he could not get passed in Congress.
Get help, Greggie. I really do worry about your mental stability since you work so hard to defend the indefensible.
@Bill, #22:
The thing is, that advertisement is a figment of the imagination. Obama didn’t put out any such advertisement.
@Greg:
Bull.
When Colorado passed its medical marijuana, and allowed for the opening of pot shops, they didn’t have to put out an advertisement that pot was for sale in Colorado.
Just as when Obama decided, by Presidential fiat, and not according to law, that he was granting what was basically amnesty to anyone who had been here since they were a child, he put out the message, loud and clear, get here, lie about how long you have been here and you’re home free. We will not deport you.
Tell me, Greggie; when whooping cough, TB, scabies and other severe diseases hit your community, and your family, are you going to be so supportive of Obama’s failed immigration policy?
@retire05:
The Dream Act was a bipartisan bill, originally introduced in 2001 by Dick Durbin and Orrin Hatch. It has been sponsored by both republicans and democrats each time it has come up. It makes a great deal of sense, which probably explains its recent flagging republican support. The GOP is presently running scared from its extremist element, which will primary anyone who isn’t sufficiently extreme, even if it means a likely republican loss in the general elections.
Obama directed that there be a cessation of deportations of young people who meet the Dream Act’s criteria. He’s Chief Executive, and he made a sound executive decision that essentially comes down to a wise allocation of limited resources: We can’t deport everybody that’s here illegally, so we prioritize; we deport those who we’re best rid of, and don’t deport those who are an asset. Apparently republicans don’t get this difficult concept. They don’t seem to grasp, for example, why anyone would release non-criminal aliens from custody to allow more legal attention on the socially dangerous element.
@Greg:
Moot point.
It simply rewards lawlessness. But then, Socialists like you don’t really believe in the letter of the law. If you did, you would be squawking every time Obama ignored the law that he signed, the ACA.
The President’s responsibility is to uphold the law. When did the Dream Act become law? And what gives him the authority, Constitutionally, to create law?
That is blatantly false. We can. We just don’t.
You mean like all the MS-13 gang members that operate openly in Los Angeles and other major American cities? Yeah, I noticed all those planes loaded up with MS-13 gangbangers that Obama has order be deported.
What non criminal illegal aliens are you talking about. The minute someone crosses our border, illegally, they are criminals according to U.S. criminal code.
Your excuses are becoming even more lame than before, Greggie, and I thought that was impossible.
@retire05, #27:
As previously noted, some people don’t grasp the wisdom of being selective about who you deport when the reality of the situation is that you don’t have the resources to deport the entire undocumented population. That doesn’t mean that prioritizing isn’t wise. It only means that some people aren’t wise enough to see that it is.
There are otherwise law-abiding people who are present in the United States unlawfully. Many of them were brought here as children, had no part in the decision their parents made, and have never known any other homeland. Many of them are brighter, have more potential, and are more useful than any number of people who happen to have been born here.
Then there are people unlawfully present in the United States who chose to engage in regular criminal behavior, living criminal lifestyles.
Apparently you believe it makes sense to treat these two categories equally, when you only have so much time, money, and manpower at your disposal to address the problem of unlawful residency.
I would consider failure to prioritize a sign of an incompetent administration.
Given the circumstances, I think what Obama has been doing makes perfect sense. If republicans don’t like it they should address the problem with legislative incentives. That’s what they’re being paid to do. You’d think they would be embarrassed that the President has to publicly remind them of that fact. They may just be too dumb to embarrass.
I’ve yet to find a single note or observation anywhere in the vast media landscape, referring to the inescapable fact that the border along the 49th parallel between the U.S. and Canada, is locked up tight — really tight. You can cross, but you better be squeaky clean with good reason to be entering the United States, and vice versa for Canada.
Does Obama not have “use” for the good folks NORTH of the BORDER as he does the hundreds of millions to the south? I know plenty of Canadians who wish they could move south.
@Greg:
If the Obama administration wanted to prioritize who it deports, then there would not be one MS-13 gangbanger left in the United States. But there is, and MS-13 is growing with the number of illegals coming to this country.
But the fact remains, they are illegally in this country. Obama loves to brattle on how we are a nation of laws. Then he should work within the confines of the Congress to change those laws, not change them arbitrarily like a king.
I view it the same as being pregnant. You are either pregnant, or you’re not. There is no middle ground. Just as you are a legal resident of the United States, or you are not. There is no middle ground. If you are not legally in the United States, you should return to your nation of birth, and enter this nation legally. I would have no problem giving special consideration to those brought here as children. fast tracking them, so to speak, when they apply for legal entry.
Of course you would, Greggie. You’re a Socialist.
Reminding Congress of their duties, and usurping the Constitution that grants the power over immigration to the Congress only, are two different things. The Constitution does not give the Executive Branch the authority to make immigration rules, or laws.
Just one more case where you support the lawless acts of this Administration.
@James Raider:
One major difference in the northern and southern borders: Canadians have respect for the law, Anglophile style. Those coming from Mexico and Central America do not. They have been indoctrinated in the Pan-American forms of corrupt governments, using a caste system, established when they were conquered by Spain.
So tell us, Greggie, what is Obama doing about this?
July 9, 2014
On Monday, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Guatemalan president Otto Perez Molina held a joint press conference in Playas de Catazaja, Mexico, to officially announce an agreement to make it easier for those making the illegal journey to the United States from Central America, to cross into Mexico.
The Southern Border Program to Improve Passage, will provide for more border checkpoints along Mexico’s border with Guatemala, and offer more protection and even emergency medical care to those making their way north. The illegal aliens will receive a so-called Regional Visitor’s Card, according to El Universal.
Officially, the program will grant the cards to only illegal aliens from Guatemala and Belize, allowing them to remain in Mexico’s southern states for 72 hours (more than enough time to reach the U.S./Mexican border by train). While, those two countries share a border with Mexico, the program will undoubtedly benefit anyone who makes it to the border, which would explain why our Border Patrol stations are currently overflowing with illegal aliens from El Salvador and Honduras as well.
The program will also give special protection and even financial assistance to unaccompanied minors now pouring across our border. Of course, these efforts, chiefly by the Mexican government, will only increase the number of illegal aliens coming to this country by the thousands, now on a daily basis.

Is there a nation on the face of the earth that has not rolled Obama?
New border risk: ISIS ties to Mexican drug lords
@Greg:
Wisdom is in the eye of the beholder. I do not regard enacting a law by edict when that same law has failed to pass the vote by our representatives TWICE as wise; I regard that as despotic.
So, since the left is so adamant about “common sense gun control” and in light of how all the liberal “common sense” available fails to stem the tide of murders in Chicago, why not “wisely” simply void the 2nd Amendment and confiscate all guns? Most leftists would deem that “wise”; if a perception of wisdom is all they is required to justify illegal, unilateral action to people like you, Greg, why not just void the 1st Amendment because that allows people to identify how “unwise” all these actions are?
We have laws and a Constitution, Greg, and we have them for a reason. Sadly, Obama does not have the power he thinks he deserves, as granted by God, to decide, based on his political agenda, what is “wise” and should, against the law, be made the law of the land. It simply does not work that way and, in this particular case, we see exactly why; the “wisdom” of all of Congress is much greater than the “wisdom” of just one man, even if he IS a demigod.
@retire05: Yes, finally other countries are figuring out what Mexico has known for decades; use the good old USA as their personal welfare program, dump all the sick and needy here so they have more cash for corruption, palaces and limousines. I wonder, where does a destitute family get $7000 for the trip to milk and honey?
Greg, the issue is not our humanitarianism; it is the humanitarianism of these countries. Also at question is the morality of the people who are more than glad to lure these people into this trek, replete with hazards, threats, abuse, robbery, theft, rape and often death, for a political goal, that goal being to dilute the white majority in the United States to the point that current minorities rule.
Is that your concept of humanity, Greg? Use people in poverty to further a political agenda, regardless of the cost in human life? Perhaps this is “wisdom”?
@Bill:
But to those like Greggie, Obama is wisdom when it comes to the march on making the United States a Socialist utopia.
Therein lies the problem. Greggie views humanitarianism in the western sense. The nations of Central and South America do not. They still subscribe to a caste system where they are not responsible for the poor.
I have said for years that Mexico is not a friend to the United States. Mexico’s agreement with Honduras is basically a thumb in our eye. It has said “You cannot stay here because we have laws against illegal immigration, but we will facilitate your breaking the laws of the United States.” How does that make Mexico anything but an enemy to the United States.
Foreign policies have consequences. When Honduras legally booted its president, Zelaya-Rosales, Obama, and Hillary Clinton, insisted Honduras reinstate its Chavez wannabe president at the threat of losing all foreign aid. As Zelaya-Rosales boarded a plane to leave Honduras, supplied by Hugo Chavez, Honduras told the U.S. to pound sand and stuck to its constitution and the decision of its congress and supreme court. Obama stuck to his ground, demanding the Marxist Zelaya be reinstated and suspended Honduran foreign aid.
We are seeing Obama’s failed foreign policies every where we look; Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Israel and now Honduras and Mexico. The disaster that is this administration will be a pox on the U.S. for decades to come, yet day after day, Greggie will come here to deny what he can see with his own eyes.
@retire05: What are these people fleeing down there? The same ideology Greg and the left are spreading up here. Only they are living the results.
@Bill:
The same Pan-American form of government that every other nation south of us subscribes to. Also, they are fleeing to the largess that Obama has promised them they will receive once they get here; welfare, education, jobs, i.e. another nanny state.
But if you ask people like Greggie, they will say there is no way that Honduras, et al, could misinterpret what Obama has done re: the Dream Act. Greggie has the same mindset of most ill-informed people who view Muslim groups as simply 7th century backward cretins who have no chance of harming the U.S. ISIS has proven them wrong with its high tech capabilities.
Socialists, and those that support Socialism, think the only reason it has never worked is because the right people were not in charge. He sees Obama as the right person to bring about what every Socialist before him could not do.
Good point, Retir05.
Check out these headlines:
“In Columbia [sic], Rising Violence Breeds New Doubts” (New York Times)
“Murder Soars in El Salvador” (Washington Post)
“Social Breakdown Turns Deadly in Guatemala” (Washington Post)
Gee, sounds like LEFTY-run Chicago!
“Guatemala Seen Slipping Into a Haven For Drugs” (Los Angeles Times)
“Drug Cartels Take Toll on Guatemala’s Politics” (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).
Gee, sounds like LEFTY-run California.
BUT, these headlines are more than 20 years old and resulted in NO exodus!
There’s a new variable because these headlines could be newer, as nothing has changed in all these years.
What is that?
Liberals love to be generous with OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY.
Obama has been very generous to illegals with OUR money.
If you reward a behavior you get more of that behavior.
Plain and simple.
Obama has only been turning adults around at the border….and counting that as deportation for the very first time.
Truth is:
If you make it past the border, you can stay.
Obama doesn’t go after illegals who make it in.
If you’re a kid, all you have to do is make it to the border.
Obama USES as an excuse a 15-year old law about sex trafficking to set children up to be sex slaves here, drug gang enforcers here and so on.
@retire05, #25:
No one was granted amnesty by anyone. What happened was that the Chief Executive—the person whose job it is to make management decisions that translate law into particular actions in the real world—designated a category of undocumented aliens that are the most deserving of legal status as the lowest priority when it comes to deportation proceedings. That category consists of those who would have been recognized under the Dream Act. Consistent with that management logic, he also designated the undocumented criminal element as the highest priority for deportation.
When you have some 12 million undocumented foreign nationals residing within your borders and lack the resources to remove everyone—and that is undeniably the reality of the situation—it would be utter stupidity not to prioritize your immigration enforcement actions in such a fashion. Failure to do this would have highly negative real world consequences. Anyone with a brain would be questioning why the federal government was deporting recent undocumented high school valedictorians before undocumented gang members. I have a strong suspicion that “We just process them in the order that we notice them” would be viewed as an unbelievably lame excuse, even by republicans.
@Greg:
When you absolve someone from what is considered a crime, that is amnesty.
Check with your U.S. Constitution, Greggie. It is not the job of the Executive branch to “translate” law. That responsibility lies with the Supreme Court. It is the job of the Executive branch to carry out the law, as it is written, not usurping it because you don’t like the way it is written.
Again, it is not up to the Executive branch to determine who is more deserving than another. That’s tyranny, in its purest form.
The Dream Act is NOT law. How dense are you? Saying that they “would have been” recognized doesn’t mean they are under current immigration law, which Obama swore an oath to uphold.
But obviously, he is not putting enough effort into deporting those undocumented criminal elements as MS-13, among others, are still running rampant all across this nation.
We, the most powerful nation on the face of the planet, have the resources to deport as many as we can, up to, and including, the 12-20 million already here. We also have the resources to punish those companies that [illegally] hire illegals. But this Department of Just-Us has no intentions of doing that. As Democrats convince black women to abort the next generation of voters, the Democrats need a new crop of perspective voters and illegal immigrants will do just fine.
@retire05, #40:
Nobody absolved anyone, either. All Obama did was prioritize immigration enforcement activities to focus on dangerous elements while essentially ignoring those that aren’t. If we run out of undocumented aliens who represent a danger to the community or are for some other reason highly undesirable, an entirely legitimate question might arise about such prioritization. Until then, prioritization is simply a best practice. Generally people expect such rational approaches at the real world level.
Republicans are more than welcome to make that part of their campaign platforms. The results would certainly be interesting.
@Greg:
“President Obama,
“I am writing this letter to you regarding illegal immigrants.
“As a tax paying, law abiding citizen of the United States, I WANT my voice heard on this issue. My son, Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, an officer who was with the City of Mesa, Arizona police department, was killed in a tragic head on collision on May 12, 2014 by a wrong way driver on our freeways. This man happened to be an illegal immigrant, was in this country illegally, convicted of previous crimes, no Social Security number, no valid driver’s license BUT he had purchased a vehicle and registered it to drive in Maricopa County Arizona.
“I had my son’s life STOLEN from me by a man who didn’t value his life, was 3X the legal limit drunk, was high on Meth, drove for over 35 miles THE WRONG WAY on 4 different freeways and had NO BUSINESS BEING IN THIS COUNTRY!!!
“The Federal Government knew he, Raul Silva Corona , was an illegal immigrant when he was convicted on crimes in 1994 in Colorado. The prosecutors were “lenient” on him and several charges were dismissed. When he was convicted of these crimes and 1994 and the government knew he was in the country illegally, why wasn’t he deported? Why are any of these illegal criminals in this country ??
“I am furious that the Federal Government allowed this criminal to stay in this country and KILL my son! I have attached several articles for you to PERSONALLY read about my son. He was an Icon with the City of Mesa Police Department. He was instrumental in making life better for people of all walks of life in the park project he took on. He was humble, selfless, worked many hours off the clock helping disadvantaged children and often used his own money to do things for the community, including “adopting” children at Christmas to provide them with gifts….out of his own money!!
“I have attached numerous articles for you to read about my son. This was not a life that should have been taken so early. The good he was doing in our community is remarkable, the difference he made in people’s lives is amazing and the comfort he brought people in friendship was unmeasurable.
“All you have to do is Google ” Sgt/Officer Brandon Mendoza” and you will have plenty of reading material about my wonderful son who had just passed his Sergeant’s exam to become a Sgt. The Chief of Police posthumously promoted him during the week of his funeral but that highlight of his life was stolen from him!!! He was officer of the year last year. Officer of the quarter for the first quarter of 2014. He was only 32 years old and had done more in his life than most of us have done in a lifetime!
“I am going to have my voice heard and I want to you to know what my personal feeling is on whether CRIMINAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS should be allowed in this country. I have been DIRECTLY affected by this. I am sure if your life had been affected like mine has been, you would have a different view of this situation. I have lived in Arizona most of my life. My son, Brandon Mendoza, was half Hispanic. It’s not the color of skin that my son or I see, it’s the person and how they conduct their lives. If you can’t enter this country legally then you shouldn’t be here. If you commit crimes, you should pay the time any of us as US Citizens would have to serve. Letting these illegal criminals out of our jails before their time is served and turning them loose on the streets to commit further crimes and KILL our loved ones is NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME!! AND it shouldn’t be acceptable to any US Citizen. Mr. President, you don’t have the right to make this decision yourself……I have a say, even if it is for one moment. Maybe that one moment will light a spark with another citizen who can then light a candle, who can then light a bonfire, who can then light a city up and so on. My light has just been lit and I am not going to back down when so many of these illegal immigrants have more rights than we do. My son’s death will not be ignored as another statistic.
“I want laws to change that would not allow illegal immigrants to purchase vehicles in our country and register them to drive them in our states WITHOUT having driver’s licenses to drive them legally. How is this happening??? I want laws changed that will force the removal of illegal immigrants who break our laws. This man, this repeated law breaker, was allowed to be released and he continued breaking the laws in our country until what???? UNTIL HE WAS STOPPED BY MY SON IN A HEAD ON COLLISION THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED!!!! HE KILLED AN OFFICER OF THE LAW AS HIS LAST ACT!!! When are you going to see the flip side to this issue? When will you realize the hurt and pain and destruction these illegal immigrants who break the law will continue to cause???? Until you live in a state that deals with this on a daily basis, you will not understand it.
“I want answers that make sense. I want answers from you personally as to why this criminal was allowed to stay in our country until he took my son’s life.
“Sincerely,
“Mary Ann Mendoza”
Greggie, why don’t you spin your crap to this mother, the widow of Officer Rodney Johnson, and the parents of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and then come back and tell us what their reaction is to your excuse making?
Or pick anyone of these families:
Obama didn’t seem to think that he needed to go to the border to see the thousands of UAC who are stuffed in holding facilities like so much cattle, but he did have time to meet with two pro-illegal hecklers at his speech in Austin, Texas, telling them, during his speech he’s on their side.
“According to a White House press pool report, White House staff escorted the protesters behind the stage immediately after the president’s speech was over and he ‘began glad-handing with folks in front.’
‘The presumption is [that] they briefly spoke to’ Obama, the pool reporter wrote, ‘but we moved so quickly in [the] motorcade that it couldn’t have been for long.'”
The enemy of my enemy is my friend seems to be the Obama standard.
