Some of us are in awe of our troops and their devotion; yet, when we look at the people around us, we shake our heads and wonder where these young people come from, since there seems to be so few Americans with enough backbone to step forward and stand on the wall. Sadly they are but a small percentage of the 350 million people of this country, and yet, so much is owed by so many to such a small number of people.
Traditionally, the Left has considered our troops and their sacrifices to be beneath their society of effete snobs. Many who have worn the uniform have felt the derision and condescension of the Left, but they are normally silent and stoic, the Left's snide remarks and superior attitude hardly registers to these who love their country. Trained to endure hardships and adversity, ridicule and condescension from the Left doesn't really register in the consciousness of the veteran.
They were given a special day to remember fallen and maimed comrades, it is a solemn day for them and for many Americans who appreciate those who have fallen. In typical silence and reverence, loyal Americans and former military people reflect and give thanks to those who fell and the many who have passed on, in this righteous cause of defending our nation. They have ignored those who have contempt for the ones who gave the last measure of devotion, for it is the cause of freedom that inspires our warriors. All they ask of those who hate them, is to not desecrate the memory of the fallen on Memorial Day.
They don't complain when they realize the vast majority of Americans consider Memorial Day to be nothing more than a paid holiday and the chance to get drunk and pay homage to hedonism. Thus there are two groups or two methods of celebrating this special holiday: ignoring the meaning of the holiday and concentrating on having fun or by moments of quiet reflection and reverence of those who gave everything for America. The two groups ignore each other and it is probably for the best; respect is not something that can be forced on someone who sees everything through their own perspective or through the eyes of the Left, who considers the work of the military to be little more than an occupation for ignorant people who have not evolved to a “higher plane of Leftism”.
However, when this special day of reverence is defiled with the effete derision of those from the Left who hate the military and consider patriotic sacrifices to be little more than the bravado of a bar fight, real Americans have an obligation to step forward and condemn this obnoxious behavior.
Chris Hays, a condescending witless snob with MSNBC, has insulted the memory of our fallen warriors in the wars of Afghanistan and Iraq, by saying he is reluctant to call them heroes, as if his opinion was a guiding light for Americans.
I feel… uncomfortable, about the word because it seems to me that it is so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war. Um, and, I don’t want to obviously desecrate or disrespect memory of anyone that’s fallen, and obviously there are individual circumstances in which there is genuine, tremendous heroism, you know, hail of gunfire, rescuing fellow soldiers, and things like that. But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic. But maybe I’m wrong about that.
For those of us who have spent time in academia, this attitude and language will bring back memories of the commie grad student trying to seduce the innocent and impressionable freshman coed with a haughty arrogant attitude and a superior vocabulary, “rhetorically approximate justifications” as she sits listening to three dollar words that impress no one but the most naive.
Chris Hays and his corny bullshit would have been ignored or laughed at almost any other time, but he chose to unleash his vindictive toxin just before Memorial Day, a day he normally ignores to concentrate on his own foolish pleasures, while laughing at the sacrifices of those he considers suckers, those who gave the last measure of devotion.
We can rage inside, but in reality we should thank this pompous arrogant ass, for he has exposed the underlying contempt the Left has for those who serve our nation to preserve our freedom. Remember the arrogant Chris Hays as November approaches and his reluctance to call our fallen troops heroes. His bravery consists of standing in front of the camera and spewing toxic hatred with the self-serving caveat to cover his ass, “But maybe I'm wrong about that.” Oh sure Chris Hays you are dead wrong, you and all those of the Left who want to march us into some totalitarian Hell hole, but thanks to useful idiots like you, America is realizing the true nature of America hating Leftists. Thank you again for dropping your phony pretenses and giving us a glimpse into the twisted hatred of the Left.

Skook has finished an historical novel, Fifty Thousand Years, that traces a mitochondrial line of DNA from 50,000 years ago to the present. The story follows a line of courageous women, from the Ice Ages to the present, as they meet the challenges of survival with grit and creativity. These are not women who whimper of being victims, they meet the challenges of survival as women who use their abilities without excuses or remorse, these women are winners, they are our ancestors.

I don’t know if this exchange really happened but it’s still great:
When a sailor was asked his opinion about the anti “Fleet Week” protests in San Francisco, he replied;
“That’s their right, we get paid to protect San Francisco. . . the rest of the country we defend for free.”
Al, that one will cause a lot of chuckles and horse laughs today.
You are way in front for today’s humor award.

HE chris hayes is one of the same dangerous INCOMPETENT people who turned AMERICA AGAINST THE VIETNAM MILLITARYS, SAME LIBERAL TWISTED MENTALITY OF THOSE WHO FAILED TO HONOR THOSE WHO SURVIVED THAT WAR AND CAME BACK TO BE RECEIVED WITH INDIFFERENCE AND EVEN INSULTS
TO THE SURVIVORS COMING FROM HELL, THOSE CHRIS HAYES COME IN THEIR MEDIAS TO MINIMIZE THE ENORMOUS SUPER HUMAN COURAGE TO FIGHT THOSE UGLY WAR,
THOSE JOURNALISTS ARE THE SPREADERS OF MEDIOCRITY IN THIS AMERICA, AND SOME BELIEVE THEIR OFFENSIVE RHETORIC EVERY DAY THEY OPEN THEIR MOUTH, TO TELL THE PEOPLE THAT IT’S OKAY TO BE A MEDIOCRE INDIFFERENT CITIZEN DETACH FROM THOSE WHOM YOU OWE YOUR FREEDOM,
GOOD THAT THEY GET CONFOUNDED BY PEOPLE LIKE FLOPPING ACES, AND SOME OTHER WHO KNOW THE REAL COURAGE ON AN 24 HOUR SHIFT THE MILITARY GIVE FOR THE SAKE OF KILLING THE ENEMIES OF FREEDOM, AND DYING FOR SOME NEVER TO RETURN TO THEIR LOVED ONES, BEING REPLACE BY THOSE CHRIS HAYES YOU FIND AS A DIME A DOZEN, TO SPIT THEIR WORDS OF HATES TO OTHER AMERICANS, THEY ARE THE ONE CARRYING THEIR POISONOUS SELF CORE MENTALITY OF THE LEFT, ON THE PUBLIC PLACE ,EVERY DAY, WHILE THE HEROES ARE EXTERMINATING THE EVIL WHO OPPRESS AND ARE THE ONE AT WORK
TO TORTURE THEIR OWN BROTHERS.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR POST
When I was a student(ROTP), I was invited to a frat party. A little cutey had organized it and I couldn’t refuse. Some poli sci students were making fun at my hair cut and started baiting me with the term “narc”. Eventually I told them I was an engineering, chemical, double major. The taxpayer deemed it fit to pay for my schooling. I posed the question- What’s the difference between a poli sci student and a cockroach? One is a cellar dwelling bottom feeder and the other is a cockroach. I wasn’t there very long.

hi,
I must remember that one , AND use it in some comment where
I CAN FIT IT ,
BYE
Skook, well written as always.
The biggest problem I see with Mr. Hays’ words is his poor choice of timing. Just as Lib1 commented on in the MSNBC/heroes topic, there are those politicians, albeit not just Republicans, who use the term ‘hero’ and lavish false praise upon servicemembers and the military in general purely for political points. But to do so ‘on the eve’ of one of America’s most reverent days towards our military and all of the fallen service members in it’s history? That alone is worth the “Stupidest Person in America” award. At least for this month.
Of course, what Hays, and Lib1, do not, can not, and absolutely will not, realize is that it is necessary for the American people to recognize our military in such a way, in order to give a sense of purpose to the job they are doing protecting America’s freedoms and liberties. It gives the job they are doing meaning and is in no way false praise. Instead, it is the reverence for those who have fallen before, from the Revolutionary war to today, from those who fell in combat action to those who have fallen in mere training exercises, and from those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to the nation, to those who are next in line, and willingly step up to the plate as those next in line, in order to preserve and protect our liberties and freedoms.
P.S. As a clarification, when I stated “false praise” above in regards to what some of our politicians do, I do not mean that from the standpoint that the praise due our servicemembers is false. No, I mean that from the standpoint that the politicians lavishing the praise do so out of pure political gambit, without sincerity. It is not hard to figure out who these pols are, if one considers the other comments and activities they are involved in.
When Matt Lauer tried to make light of and explain away Hayes’ insult he was set upon by LIBERALS over at NBC’s Today Show on Tuesday.
Lauer:
DONNY DEUTSCH:
STAR JONES:
The other problem is the person that he was talking to was the officer whose job it was to call the families of fallen soldiers. Could you be more inappropriate on Memorial Day?

By the way…..
Lest we forget…..
Chris Hayes is married to a White House Counsel for Obama.
Kate Shaw.
This whole thing might have been as ham-handedly engineered as was the Sandra Fluke garbage!
Skook- Well written and so true.
There is an artificial distinction made here between conservative and liberal views of war and the military. Some of the best known war evaders—Cheeney, Bush (I count his particular service in the reserves as a dodge), Romney (and all his sons), Perry, etc.—have been conservatives. These people—not just liberals—represent “effete snobs…for which participating in war is beneath their dignity”.
I would venture to say that as many liberals as conservatives serve in the military—the main difference being (especially in light of recent wars), more people enter as conservatives and exit as liberals—especially as their closeness to actual war increases. I also do not think the youth of America is responsible for it’s deterioration—as the author of the article seems to.
But the article once again degrades itself into a diatribe about Commies, Leftists, and Toxic Talk.
As far as Chris Hayes goes, it’s to bad that the ultra-conservative right cannot have an intellectual argument with the principles he discusses, without entering into emotionalism. That’s why ideas of the intellectual right—like David Frum—have no currency on this kind of site.
@Liberal1 (objectivity):
-One, Bush did serve, whether in the reserves or not. It is not a surprise that a liberal/progressive such as yourself would call it a dodge. Some of the finest heroes of the past decade have served in the reserves, and you crap all over this section of military service by calling it a dodge. Congratulations, Lib1, as saying something almost as stupid as Mr. Hays has.
-Two, ask the conservatives here on FA and you won’t find too many of them willing to consider any of those you listed as true conservatives. To you, though, it is simply a way to label the opposition and relate some politicians to it in an unflattering way. In reality, those pols you listed simply aren’t progressive enough for your liking, even though they all exhibit liberal/progressive tendencies. That is why you, along with Obama your god, lay and place blame (some deserved) upon them and then falsely label them as something they are clearly not. That way the stupid rubes who don’t follow politics see your words and think conservatives are bad, liberals are good, not realizing that the liberal/progressive actions of the above pols is what has failed them. And in so doing, you facilitate a “doubling down” on liberal/progressive ideas and policies by helping elect the biggest liberal/progressive in the history of our country. Remind me again which of Obama’s, and the Democrats’, liberal/progressive economic actions and policies have worked the past three plus years.
Sources for this belief?
No, it’s not necessarily the youth themselves. It’s the parenting that relegates the actual parenting to the TV sets, or video game console, or computer. It’s parents that don’t have time for their children, who are “living the life” and living it up, with little concern for their children’s welfare. And the liberal/progressive viewpoint allows for this, engendering a feeling to the parents that school is a way to take a break from the children, allowing them to do the things they want to do. This is a lie, of course, as school becomes the propaganda tool of the left to indoctrinate the children on false histories and leftist viewpoints.
And all of that has stemmed from the ‘baby boomer’ era where people were bombarded with advertising and tv programming whose main message was for people to live their lives now, eating, drinking, and playing, at the cost of real parenting towards their children. The “age of love” produced millions of immature, self-indulgent snobs who gave up the responsibility for parenting their children to other means. Is it any wonder that today’s children, the product of those children from the 60’s and 70’s, are, in general, pushed aside as their parents act just as their parents acted?
The “age of enlightenment” was actually the “age of stupidity”. The problem is, most of you liberal/progressives who lived through that era cannot even recognize how much of a failure you all were, hence the examples you set for your own children, starting and continuing the “stupid is as stupid does” attribute the liberal/progressives of today exhibit.
The more optimistic amongst us believe, that at some point, it will sink in that the common ideas contained within the topics here, such as “Commies, Leftists, and Toxic Talk” will open eyes. Meaning, that there is a simple reason the common ideas are present within many of the topics. That is, the problems stem from those ideas. The realists, or those who lean more towards realism, have accepted that blind faith like you display is nearly impossible, and highly unlikely, to ever change without a momentous, life-changing experience. Cultists display the same attributes as you liberal/progressives do, at least towards the altars you worship.
@Liberal1 (objectivity): Bush’s stint in the Guard service would count, regardless of what you think, and Perry had a stint in the Air Guard also- the liberals don’t even do that- most of them count on the 1% of us who are willing, and have the stones to enlist-(remember, there is no longer a draft, although if it was up to the uber-liberal Charlie Rangel, a Dem/socialist, we would have one)- the pay sucks, although the veteran’s benefits are better than they were during Nam.
Both Bush and Perry chose to serve our country, although they did not go to Nam, and theat is possibly more than you did, so I would just lay off of the false sanctimony.
@johngalt: and Blake Having been a Reservist for 30 years with two deployments in the Balkans and two to Iraq, I was going to respond to his ignorant nonesense but there is really no point. If you notice how he operates, he comes here in the morning. He hits all the posts hurling insults and stating his opinions as undisputed facts without offering evidence to support them and then leaves. Most likely, he feels vindicated for setting us “straight”or gets off on thinking he is getting under people’s skin. It’s a waste of time responding because he knows everything, just ask him.
another vet
hi, this LIBERAL1 IS REPRESENTING THE OTHER AS THE FOOL WHO TALK FOR THEM,
AND THEY ARE A MISERABLE BUNCH, THEY LOOK AT THE CONSERVATIVES INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT THEMSELVES LIVING IN A CREVASSE DEEP ENOUGH TO MISS ON WHAT OBAMA IS PULLING FROM HIS VISION OF THE OCCULT, WHERE HIS DREAMS ARE WHAT HE SEE GOOD IN IS PREVIOUS LIFE,
AND TO OTHER WHO READ IT IS NOTHING IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO HAVE VOTED FOR THAT
LESS THAN GIFTED PERSON, WHO TRIED SO HARD TO BECOME THE IMAGE THE FOLLOWERS MADE OF HIM SO TO SELL HIM TO THE PEOPLE. HE NEVER CAN ACHIEVE TO BE SUCH.
When I think of the term, ”effete snob,” a photo of John F. Kerry pops up.
Kerry joined the reserves, too.
He tried to get out of even that!
He deferred until he could defer no more!
He even tried to get out of it by taking class out of the country!
But he joined the RESERVES.
Not of his choice his particular reserve group got called to action in Vietnam.
What to do?
Pretend to hurt himself THREE times.
And out!
And as to Kerry’s liberal effeteness in decision-making: who was it who picked John Edwards for his running mate?
Yup, that John F. Kerry!
Thanks guys, I won’t reply to the mentally deranged, because your commentary was far better than anything I could muster. However, I am having lunch ata truck stop and accidentally sat in a booth next to two Army infantry sergeants and told the waitress to bring me their bill. I couldn’t do my secret recon I bragged on last Memorial day because they were finishing when I sat down. They were polite well spoken young men. We talked rifles for a few minutes and they thanked me profusely. I wished them luck and thanked them for their service. It made my day.
SKOOK
GOOD, DID YOU GIVE THEM THE FLOPPING ACES LINK,
SO WE CAN SPOIL THEM TOO.

@ilovebeeswarzone: He obviously knows very few if any who have recently served or are still serving. It is indeed is becoming like a cult for some.
@Skook: It probably made their day too. Showing them that there are still people in the general public who respect their service speaks volumes. It squelches out the left wing minority who demean their service. To them, the Marine who fought in Fallujah pales in comparison to someone who works for Planned Parenthood.
@Skook:
Good job, Skook. Anytime we citizens can show our appreciation, no matter how small, for our servicemembers is good.
@Skook:
That’s the reason we go to Hooters.
Many of our military men and women wear their uniforms in there.
That way you can ask your server, ”has anyone already got their bill?”
She’ll either say yes or no.
If “no” you can tell her to give you the bill but if “yes” you try to be the first to get the next group that comes through the door.
Either way, Hooters is a hoot!
Nan G.
HOW NICE OF YOU.
I just love to hear those stories, it is genuine and such a good welcome AMERICA FOR THE MILITARY,
BYE
@Liberal1 (objectivity): johngalt slapped you down on your asinine comments.
I can only add a couple things,
You said:
I will mirror what johngalt asked and see if you have any facts to support this wildly inaccurate claim.
Since polls show that Conservatives and center-right folks outnumber liberals in the American population by 2 to 1, how is it that they would be 50/50 in the military? Like so much of what you say, it makes no sense.
You seem pretty quick to speak for the military, so I again will ask; where and where did you serve??
Skook,
Another great one. One thing about hooters before my point. I am lucky to be married to the most beautiful woman ion the world. Back in the mid 80’s she was going to Tech school in Tampa. Each day the boys (she was the only girl) would go to lunch and one day they invited her to Hooters (A place where in a certain fashion she fit into spectacularly! Proud husband here). Anyway, the kids were in school and I was off that day so she called me to meet them there as she felt I would like it1 And that my friend was the original building. And we still frequent Hooters to this day! Now that is a wife!
Sue and I regularly pick up the tabs of servicemen and women we run into in various places here in Vegas,. it is one of the warmest feelings to see their faces and the gratitude when in fact it is we that owe them so much!
As such, you can guess I was not only completely mortified by that dimwit Haye’s comments but in fact I was really pissed off and still am! (And yes, like it or not he has the right to make an ass out of himself). How dare he even remotely look down to the very people that defend his right of not only Free speech but his right of being! This would be a time where I would normally like to use the proverbial two by four up the side of his head, but in this case I really would like to just pummel his weesily looking face with my own fists. That’s how mad I am. Yet, being what I hope is a true conservative, I instead grant him his right to utter incredible bullshit! I hope I never meet him though. The disgust I feel right now is real. The hurt I feel for the defenders of our rights is deep. And your essay, as always is right on as to how i feel.
JOETOTE
HI,
I CAN JUST FIGURE OUT HOW BEAUTIFUL YOUR CHILDREN ARE,
HAVING YOU AND YOUR WIFE, AS TWO BEAUTIFUL PARENTS TO LOVE, AND THE GRAND KIDS AND THE GRAND GRAND KIDS,
I just can see all those beautiful PEOPLE loving their AMERICA, AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE
AND STANDING TALL AMONG THE OTHER WHICH HAD BEEN LURED INTO THE WRONG PATH TO FOLLOW.
BEST TO YOU. AND MAKING YOU SMILE
Joe, I’ve never been to Hooters, I work for hundreds of beautiful women, and frankly, I like to spend my free time alone. (If they would have gelded me and floated my teeth when I was thirteen, I’d be a multi-millionaire.) It pleases me to hear that you made a good catch in a life partner; you have certainly led a charmed life compared to the majority of old race trackers from Chicago and Kentucky! We are definitely two of the lucky ones.
It is okay to get your blood up like an old hungry Grizzly, but as responsible Conservatives it is imperative for us to focus our passion on the election this November.
To all of you, even the Liberals:
We must all remember to give our people in uniform a smile and a thumbs up at the very least. They are the ones putting it all on the line to keep the throat cutters off balance, and they are doing a Hell’uva job. Don’t be bashful, walk up and tell them about how you appreciate their service and if you can afford to buy them a meal, help them out. Don’t feel self-conscious if you are behind the financial eight ball, a smile, a handshake, and a thank you mean a lot to these young people, they are our most noble heroes.
Great piece, Skookum. Thanks for posting it and reminding us why we honor our Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day.
@Skookum:
I can’t stop laughing. lord knows my old man surely felt more than once it would be a good thing if i had been gelded for sure! And yes indeed, we are two of the lucky ones.
Seriously, you of course are dead on again. We must focus our passions on November. It is the most important election of our lifetime for sure!
I’ll use a “Rush” term for the last paragraph. MAJOR DITTOS! We are FREE because of our military! Please, everybody. Honor them and thank them!
@ilovebeeswarzone:
Luv ya Bees!!!
