I’m a military history nut. The Arizona was hit by a 1000 lb armor piercing bomb in the number 2 turret magazine, thus a huge explosion killing 1204 naval personnel, fully half of the dead at Pearl. I ‘ve read tons of material and the boiler- oil fuel explosion is hogwash. Cordite explosions are instant and fuel oil explosions are more latent. I’ve seen both. The media is rewriting history again circa 1950’s.

Here’s another tidbit. The armor piercing bombs were naval shells with fins attached for aerodynamics.
Historians dig for the truth. The press digs for money!

hi,
this was horrible, sneaky attack from JAPAN,
killing so many AMERICANS, THE BEST AND BRAVEST,
the USA, should never forget it and relax their surveillance on any country of haters of AMERICA,
and keep a close friendly support for ISRAEL at this time of most dangerous actions possible against this NATION, especially governement where you have seen the removal of head of COUNTRIES , to favor
a different leadership of one leader for all those countries where those revolts succeeded one after the other, making them feel their new power which can lead them to try their games of conquering here in our land, where there is now a platform to make it easy for them to do the same sneaky empowering,
while nobody even think possible, but is really at the door with propaganda, instead of planes equip with bombs, that could come after they enter and occupy some place all over the country ,to begin with,
which would lead to the next phase, and the next and the next, until the total destruction.
without no resistance

@ Bees… the deal was, it was not SUPPOSED to be a “sneak attack”….. the Diplomats in DC for Japan SCREWED UP, and delivered the declaration of war, LATE!! No matter, THAT mistake, pissed off an entire nation, and caused the defeat of Japan! OOOPS!!
1941… i fear we have awoken a sleeping Giant, and pissed him off!!! We’re Doomed…

2011… I fear, we have pissed of America, and they will only give us SIX billion in aid now!

My how times have changed!!

Hankster58
is that so ? late declaration of war, that is incredible, and those who died because of no warning of the declaration of war,, they could have had time to survive,
now, 2011, why giving them billions, what for?
those billions could have been in the AMERICANS POCKETS,
how come the GOVERNMENT GIVE all kinds of money abroad, instead of giving to AMERICA’s
people in these time of hard budgeting families, not to welfare recipients they already collect,
but to working AMERICANS, which would be a first, but OBAMA spend a lot abroad, he spend AMERICA’S MONEY GENEROUSLY not in AMERICA
what a shame, all that money spent just to look good abroad,
in a family unit, the budget is made for family first, is in it?
bye

Rent the film “ToraToraTora” sometime….it’s historically accurate film of the whole deal. The Japanese ambassador, was to deliver the Japanese Ultimatum Shortly BEFORE the attack… it got there, around an hour after…. due to translation/typing problems!! OOOPS!!

Hankster
I am not ready to believe it was an error, I think it was delayed on purpose
to attack by surprise,
there is a code of war from JAPAN THAT I forgot the name, but I vaguely remember a quote regarding the surprise element in attack on a war to be succesful
thank you for the movie tora, I will try to get it.
bye

scroll down to 10 am.. then at 230 pm…

The Idea, was to make a formal “Legal” declaration, but not in time enough, for Pearl Harbor to defend itself. Plus, the Japs, did not know we were breaking their codes, and that we knew they were up to “something”. And did not know, we figured out WHERE, before that attack. Radio problems, slowed the alarm enough, for the tragedy to happen as it did…. the LATE “Declaration of War”, only served to ANGER and INFURIATE…

Thus Yamamoto’s famous Quote…. “all i fear we have done, to to awaken a sleeping Giant, and fill him with TERRIBLE resolve”!

He knew, the BUNGLED Declaration, would REALLY PISS US OFF!! He was right. He ALSO, was against the war, from the start… he was SCHOOLED at HARVARD, and knew firsthand, what we were like. He knew the war, would end BADLY for Japan, BEFORE it started… too bad he died, HE was the SMARTEST of all their Military!

I think you refer to Sun Tzu’s “The ART of WAR”??

Actually, the “Declaration”, done right, STILL most likely, would have ended up in a “surprise” at PH anyway… not enough time, to get everyone on alert, using the time schedule the Japs had initially set up. Like I said.. “the REST, is history”….

Hankster58
yes sun Tzu’s thank you, for the story, and the link,
best to you for the holidays,
