Weekly Open Thread – Burning Tax Dollars Edition

Earlier today, a few of us Tea Party “sons of bitches” decided to call on the “debunked” progressive propagandists at Media Matters for America (MMFA) to ask them to produce their latest IRS 990 form–the tax document that non-profit organizations are required to file annually with the IRS to maintain their tax-free status.

Unlike other tax-exempt organizations that make their latest IRS filings easily available at their own websites (such as the Media Research Center, for example), MMFA apparently wants the public to find that information for itself. Since the most recent available IRS 990 filing from MMFA covers 2009, we decided to see if they had any more recent information to provide us.

By sheer chance, we happened to walk into the building as MMFA head honcho David Brock was walking in. He looked very uncomfortable. But he kindly sent a couple of goons–who by this time had brought their own video camera–to deliver a sheaf of papers. Sadly, it was just MMFA’s IRS 990 filing for 2009 all over again.

MMFA’s IRS 990 filings–for 2009 as for previous years–declare that its purpose is “TO NOTIFY ACTIVISTS, JOURNALISTS, PUNDITS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT INSTANCES OF MISINFORMATION, PROVIDING THEM WITH THE RESOURCES TO REBUT FALSE CLAIMS AND TAKE DIRECT ACTION AGAINST OFFENDING MEDIA INSTITUTIONS.”

Only conservative institutions count as “offending,” of course. With its self-described “war” on FOX News, MMFA is now effectively a campaign arm of Obama for America and the Democrats, violating the rules that allow it to avoid paying taxes to the federal government–even as it clamors for the federal government to raise taxes on everyone else.

And to think that Breitbart helped found the HuffPo. See? That is why I battle with the libtards online, because if I only change the mind of one, I have helped to make the world a better place.

(and it is so damn much fun to prove them wrong! he he)

Little tiny hint on one part of Obama’s plan to burn through our money for no benefit….

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said. “I really think that there is a longing out there right now, especially in these uncertain times, for some of the things that have provided stability over the years.”

Therefore

the White House will include a financial rescue plan for the U.S. Postal Service as part of a broader $1.5 trillion deficit reduction package due to Congress in the coming weeks, it said Tuesday.

We’re talking $10 billion minimum for this year alone, because people long for the stability of seeing a Post Office.

Oh, and they’re all union members, too.

You kidding me?

Missouri will get rid of MyCatskill. Too much corruption.

One of the things Obama said after Jimmy Hoffa introduced him….“

We said working folks deserved a break, so within one month of me taking office, we signed into law the biggest middle-class tax cut in history, putting more money into your pockets.” – Sept. 5, 2011

What do those words mean?

Are we talking about dollars, inflation-adjusted or measured against the overall economy?
Raw dollar figures are essentially meaningless without that context.

What’s the definition of “middle-class”?

If you think about Obama’s words, you’d probably think he was talking biggest tax cut in $$$s.

But you’d be wrong.

After being asked the White House responded that Obama wasn’t talking about dollars at all.

“The point the president was making that is there is not a tax cut that has been enjoyed by such a broad section of the population,” an administration official said, pointing to a report* that said that 95 percent of working families received some kind of tax cut under the Making Work Pay provision in his stimulus bill.

In other words, every working family, except those making more than $190,000, received up to $800 in tax cuts.

Who actually gave Americans the ”biggest tax cut in history?”
John F. Kennedy.

*
Incidentally, the report that the administration official cited as “outside validation” for the 95 percent statistic just mentioned it as an aside. We checked with one of the co-authors, and he said the source for the figure was a White House fact sheet.

Maybe, to be more accurate, (but less impressive) Obama should have said, ”The BROADEST tax cut.”

LOL!

Here in Afghanistan, we’re paying $3000 per month, per vehicle. These are NTV (non-tactical vehicles). In other words, normal vehicles that you I drive back home. Most of them are SUV-type Toyotas that are about 10 years old and beat up. In two months or less, you could probably BUY one of these things at a used car lot back in the states at this cost. Yes, PER MONTH!! The tires are bald, the tailgates are falling off, no radios, barely functioning A/C…I could go on. And I couldn’t even tell you how many of them are here on Kandahar alone.

Additionally, we’ve had a vehicle in the shop for over a month to get fixed. Yes, we still have to pay for the vehicle lease! Our bus hasn’t worked since I got here about a month ago. Again, we’re paying to lease it! We had a belt go out and it’s going to take “about two weeks” to get a replacement! In the meantime, we’ll pay $1500 during that two weeks to have a vehicle sit idle! Another has a radiator leak and I don’t even want to know how long that will take to fix.

How’s that for wasted tax dollars?!

@CJ:

My guess is, that the makeup of the troops over there is something like there was when I was in the Navy. Meaning, there are plenty of “gearheads” who only need the tools and parts and they, themselves, would get the vehicles fixed. Of course, the problem probably is, that the parts are hard to come by. Am I wrong, CJ?

If not, maybe, instead of continuing to send the typical care packages, a different type of “care” package could be sent, with people over here in the states donating to purchase the needed vehicle parts that you and your buddies can use to fix the vehicles, and sending them to you all.
