Oklahoma is having wildfires, from Kansas to Texas, mostly east of Interstate 35.
Seems strange to me, there are no storms; there has not been any lightning.
Cigarettes? In that large an area?
Conspiracy?
Do not ask me.
Just seems strange.
At 75 degrees air temperature we have wild fires?
That is nowhere near combustion temperature.
We have high south winds, so one fire downwind can spread north.
Oklahoma has a lot of cedar trees.
How do you spell cedar trees: kerosene; cedar trees burn like gasoline.
Without the natural causes of lightning, why do we have fires?
This reeks of a need for investigation.
Multiple fires in an area of one hundred and fifty miles by two hundred miles ignited by
natural causes when there are no storms is doubtful.
Speaking of cedar trees, if you cut them down then they are not a fire hazard.
If you clear out the brush, the brush will not be a fire hazard.
(Can we say catastrophic fires in Australia?)
My grandfather and I burned (controlled burn) our yard and fields every year to get rid of tics, weevils, and weeds.
I did not have a tic on me until I was over fifty, which is another story, maybe someday.
Burning the yard and fields left no fuel for wildfires to endanger our home and out buildings.
That is illegal now; thank you EPA, watch Oklahoma burn, or California, or Oregon, or ….
All of the brush we are not allowed to clear out causes uncontrollable fires that destroy homes in areas all over this nation.
Can we say short sighted, not thinking beyond step one, unintended consequences, or just plain stupid?
S**t burns. If it is not near your home, you have a chance.
If you can not control brush and trees near your home because of green lunacy or any other reason, you are screwed.
Hey boys and girls, can we say Australian green eco-nuts?
People died and lots of property was lost to this stupidity in Australia.
The Mayan calendar ends in 2012, because they ran out of room on that version and did not get the chance to make the next one.
The Mayan calendar does not predict the end; the Mayans simply did not get to publish the 2013 version.
The eco-idiots do not understand this.
I doubt that they understand anything.
My hubby’s family includes some native Americans from Missouri area.
the older ones when we fist dated are all gone now, but so many of them lived to be 100 it is eerie.
So, anyway, I got an earful of stories about the way it was done in the past.
Only after the environutcases took over did man not even tinker with the land.
Up until then people did the little things that needed doing.
If you loved making berry preserves you pretty much had to clear out old brush every other year or so, to give the new plants a better place to grow.
So, you went in there and did it.
Now all of it is illegal.
We lived through the horrid CA bettle wildfires a few years ago.
Had the diseased trees, the dead ones too, been copped down it would not have been so bad.
So stupid.
Not touching wilderness is NOT the same as taking care of it.
Al Cooper, hi, thank you for that knowledgeble post , If there is no other causes known,
It came to me to ask, if the millions of FIREFLYES could ignite a forest of pinetrees, wich are easy to ignite did you say, or a glass close to a tree reflect the sun for a good lenght of times ignite a spark,
to become a major fire,
ilovebeeswarzone
Thank you!
Fireflys produce a cold chemical light and cannot start fires.
But they sure are fun to watch when you are sitting outside
with a cold drink.
Much better than TV.
Glass from a bottle being a magnifying glass is possible,
but we had over 24 fires.
Maybe invesgations will turn up something.
Acouple of years or so ago, we had provable arson for some
fires.
This is the same area of Oklahoma that was in blizzard conditions about the 1st of February. From ice and crazy amounts of snow on the ground to out of control fires in one month?? Really bizarre.
I was particularly aware of the weather conditions of the state because my daughter was on the road in that area at the time. Found this site to be of help in checking road conditions:
http://www.truckingonthenet.com/links/RoadConditions.htm
It links to whatever organization keeps track of highway conditions in every state. Or at least in _almost_ every state. I didn’t actually check them all. It’s a good link to tuck away for future use…
Arson. Folks lookin’ for work. It’s an old Oklahoma tradition…..
Weren’t the greenies trying to take big oil and automakers to court on carbon emissions? Let’s have homeowners take the greenies to court for endangering them. The policies have a direct link to homes and lives being destroyed not just some vague climate change nonsense.
All I can say is pray for rain. I spent some time (two weeks) in Oklahoma back in 1970. As I remember it was hot and dry the first week and then the rains came over the weekend and turned everything to swamp and mud;or so it seemed. This was courtesy of the USMC(R) and our two week summer camp excursion.By the way quite a few of the men became sick but that was because of the temperature change and of course being wet most of the time the second week.
I hope the fires burn out soon. Not much worse than fires. Well there is but they are too numerious to name.
“Semper Fi”
The final count of fires was over fifty.
Al Cooper thank’s for your reply, 50 fires are very suspicious yes like MIKE mentionned
they need work and do it and did it before, but the only work that is left is killing the fires,
but then they have to wait for more trees to grow, so to get more jobs,
that is not the brightes idea they can find, besides, when the MARSHAL come in,
he can find them so fast they won’t have time to hide anywhere and what kind of jobs is waiting for them will be in the prison, so they better smarter up,
Nan–
You just live in the wrong state. Here in NC we can cut down trees, clear brush, build roads and dams…all with no (or very few) restrictions. I live in the middle of a pine forest so a few years ago I hired some folks to clear the trees and brush 50′ away from my home. Last year I had a dam built across our little stream and ran a 1-1/2″ water line around the property with risers every so often where I can hang a fire hose. I’m ready.
Most of my neighbors, though, are waiting for a government “Fire-Safe” grant so somebody else can pay for what they should do themselves.
John Cooper, did you see any bees in the flowers yet,
It must be quite a show with those peach trees in flower,
I see that you have the right way of thinking, and
it work better to do it not waiting for hand out and whining while waiting
No bees yet. It’s supposed to be 80 degrees here tomorrow, so I hope that will bring them out.
