Another Stupid Democrat Reason Not To Secure The Border [Reader Post]

Enforcement leads to violence:

Dem border lawmakers: Violent incidents will come with enforcement

Several Democratic lawmakers representing districts along the U.S.-Mexico border say that more violent episodes, such as the recent killing of a Mexican teenager by a U.S. Border Patrol officer, can be expected as the region’s law enforcement is heightened.

The killing of the teenager in the Mexico border city of Ciudad Juarez last week comes on the heels of an incident on May 31 at a San Diego border crossing in which a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer shocked a Mexican man to death.

So the United States can expect more violence if it enforces the security of its borders, say Democrats.

The two deaths are being investigated by the FBI and have caused an uproar of outrage from the Mexican government, which says that the U.S. officials used levels of force that exceeded what the situation warranted.

Hmm.

The 15 year old who was killed was well known to authorities:

The 15-year-old Mexican boy who was shot dead by a Border Patrol agent as U.S. authorities came under attack along the border Tuesday was known to authorities as a juvenile smuggler, sources close to the investigation told Fox News.

Using kids to smuggle people across the border is apparently nothing new:

(CNN) — The 15-year-old Mexican youth who was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent had a history of involvement with human smuggling and was on a list of repeat juvenile offenders, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Mark Qualia told CNN Thursday.

The victim, Sergio Adrian Hernandez Guereca, had been apprehended by U.S. officials on more than one occassion but was never criminally charged, Qualia said.

The use of juveniles to smuggle people across the border is a common tactic for smugglers, he said.

By all accounts, rocks were being thrown at the Border Patrol officer. The officer did demand that the rock throwing stop to no avail. Only then did the agent shoot.

A Mexican official claimed the shooting took place on the Mexican side of the border.

Arturo Sandoval, a spokesman for the Chihuahua state Attorney General’s office, said a spent .40-caliber shell casing was found near the body — raising the question of whether the fatal shot was fired inside Mexico, although he did not explicitly make that allegation. That would violate the rules for Border Patrol agents, who are supposed to stay on the U.S. side of the border.

But the video clearly shows the US agent on the US side of the border when the shooting occurred.

CNN also reported that the bullet casing might have been planted:

A U.S. official, meanwhile, said video shows the Border Patrol agent did not enter Mexico.

The official, who agreed to discuss the matter only if not quoted by name, said the video also shows what seem to be four Mexican law enforcement officers driving to the edge of the dry but muddy bed of the Rio Grande, walking across to the U.S. side, picking up an undetermined object and returning to Mexico near the area where the boy’s body was. Like their U.S. counterparts, Mexican law officers are not authorized to cross the border without permission.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon promised to protect the rights of those breaking the law:

Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Tuesday that his government “will use all resources available to protect the rights of Mexican migrants.”

It was claimed that the teenager was “playing” when he was shot:

The boy’s sister, Rosario, told Associated Press Television News that her brother was playing with several friends and did not plan to cross the border.

Playing.

With rocks.

Throwing those rocks at the US Border Patrol.

In the dry bed of the Rio Grande in no-man’s land.

Where all kids normally “play.”

Several of the teenager’s relatives showed up for a memorial:

About 30 relatives and friends gathered late Tuesday to mourn Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereka, whose shooting Monday evening came along the border with Texas.

30 relatives and friends should have been enough people to keep the 15 year old from “playing” with rocks at the Rio Grande border.

Once again, Democrats take a problem created by someone else and make it our problem. They want to forget about securing the borders because those who are invading illegally might get angry with us and take to violence. Being that stupid cannot be a easy thing.

But where does the real fault with all this violence lie? You guessed it:

On Tuesday, the governor of Chihuahua condemned the killing and said the death was due to “xenophobic and racist conduct derived from the approval of the anti-immigrant law S.B. 1070 in Arizona.”

The governor of Chihuahua said nothing of the origin of the assaults on US Border agents:

…there were 799 assaults on border agents from October 1, 2009, through May 31– up from 745 assaults for the same time period in 2007-08 and 658 for the same span in 2008-09.
