Obama Insults Special Olympics

Good thing Obama isn’t a Republican or he would be strung up and quartered for this one:

The first appearance by a sitting president on “The Tonight Show” may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he’s gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

“That’s very good, Mr. President,” Leno said sarcastically.

It’s “like the Special Olympics or something,” the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

The WH said it was all a off-hand remark and he meant nothing disrespectful in saying it. I’m sure that’s the case.

But we all know the knives would be out with a vengence if Bush had said something like this. Front page news baby!

Oh, and if that remark wasn’t good enough….Hugh Hewitt updates us on what great timing Obama has:

Saturday, btw, is World Down Syndrome Awareness Day. March 21st was chosen for its numerical representation–3/21–being symbolic of the third “bonus” copy of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic cause of Down syndrome. This discovery was made 50 years ago by Jerome Lejeune.

UPDATE

Heh:

“Any suggestion that the President does not share America’s great concern for the developmentally disabled is both unfair and untrue. With the selection of Joe Biden as his Vice President and the appointment of Tim Geithner to Treasury, this president has done more to advance the cause of the developmentally disabled in America than has any other president in the history of the United States.

This is the kind of distraction that Rush Limbaugh and other retards on the Right will seize upon to suggest that this president does not genuinely care about all Americans. We assure you that is not the case.”
