Steele Cleaning House

Not a bad idea:

A Republican source says newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has requested the resignations of the entire RNC staff and signaled a dramatic turnover at the party organization.

Some aides may be retained, though Republicans are under the impression that Steele will lead a large-scale changeover in the institution, which has about 100 staffers. Obama’s new team at the Democratic National Committee also requested mass resignations.

Starting out fresh is a good one. The last crew proved that they are not that adept at representing conservatives.

Is he moving RNC headquarters to Maryland?

Great that Steele’s starting fresh, hoping for some true conservatives to come in. As for the DNC’s requests by “O’s” team, I think that was more for payback than a new start.

We’ll see … I have high hopes for Steele.

The first to go should be the idiot who allowed Palin to be videoed in front of the turkey killings. He could have stopped it but evidently didn’t know how All he did was nervously say to the photographer “your’r not going to print that are you?” Like the media is all warm and cuddly to Palin.

I hope the new staff knows how to fight back instead of being steamrolled like the last one. They don’t have to get down to the dems level but they CAN stop taking crap and lies.

If Steele does this RIGHT, if he can return the RNC to a solid Conservative base, then we DO have a chance, but if the RNC stays where it is, Dem Lite, we are so screwed…

We need to do the same with most of the idiots in Congress.
I truly hope Steel lives up to his name. A ray of hope?

Steele is a moderate at best
i wouldnt look for a massive swing to the right
coming from MD, Steele is likely the best we could hope for
kinda like up here in Maine Snowe and Collins are the best we can hope for

The GOP is currently in danger of being relegated to being a regional party, competitive in national elections only in the southeast, central plains, and “mormon west.”

The GOP lost New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada because of the exploding Latino vote, and the GOP doesn’t have a program which resonates with young Latinos, or young people in general. Reagan captured the hearts of the youth of the 80s, and they’ve never left the GOP. Obama has captured the hearts of the youth of the 00s, and they are quite likely to stay with the Dems, as well, unless the GOP has something to offer.

With McCain not running again, look for Arizona to turn blue, as well, next time around.

Steele was a brilliant selection. Starting out “fresh” is good. Doing something to broaden the geographic reach beyond the “cracker” South, plains, and Utah would be even better.

If the only strategy is to crawl into a conservative shell, toss spitballs at Obama, and hope that Obama screws up, then this strategy is very likely to fail.

“Cracker” South?

Nice bigotry you’ve got there, Larry. I think I can judge the wisdom of the rest of your comments based on that alone.

Folks, Larry’s methods- “Democrat with an ‘R’ “- failed in ’06 and ’08, and the only reason they succeeded at all in ’04 was the war in Iraq. People like him are responsible for Barack Obama waking up in the White House every morning.

Want to relegate the Republican Pary to “regional” status? keep on listening to Moderates like Larry.

@ Larry

The Nevada Democratic vote for Obama was not so simple due to the “Latino vote”, but also more due to an influx of California Democrats who have steadily moved to the Las Vegas Valley over the last decade. Which was also key to tipping the party balance.

I think that you are being overly confident in trusting the “Latino vote” to (in the future) vote Democrat. Typically, Hispanics tend to vote for conservatives because they are closest to their values. With two moderates to choose from, with very similar political stances on Latino issues, the local Hispanic vote was divided, somewhat more in favor for Obama. It would be a mistake to consider these voters to be solid Democrat votes in future elections.

The Republicans shot themselves in the foot by nominating McCain. Quite a few of the local Conservatives chose not to vote. Palin was very popular to many local Republicans but not enough to bring them to vote for McCain. Some Conservative Reps stayed home. Part of the problem nation wide was that in the race for the Republican party nomination, there were too many conservatives dividing up the Party’s Conservative votes, while McCain had most of the Republican moderates, therefore he won the nomination. Had there been one more moderate candidate with his hat in the ring, McCain would not have been the Party Nominee.
