Apparently “that one” is quite anxious to get into his new digs, arriving this weekend… 17 odd days prior to inauguration…. plus asking for the keys to Blair House.
And also just as apparently presumptuous is the petty and obnoxious London Telegraph headline, Barack Obama forced to live in Washington hotel.
Subtitle?
Barack Obama is to move to Washington this weekend but will be forced to stay in a hotel after President George W. Bush said an official residence was “not available”.
Geez Louise… what’s this “forced” stuff? Is the guy homeless, or did they forget about that hefty mansion in Chicago? This pundit makes it sound like early vacancy in the White House is “owed”, fer heavens sake!
But this isn’t the first time the Telegraph decided to portray the Bush family in a bad light… this goes back to another Dec 12th pissy article, with the headline:l
President Bush refuses Barack Obama
permission to move in early
President-Elect Barack Obama asked if his family could move into Blair House near the White House a little early, but the Bush administration was unable to meet the request.
Well…. ex’cuuuuuuuse me if the current POTUS does not alter his final days and receptions merely to accommodate the yanc’y incomers…
Mr Obama had requested to stay at Blair House, opposite the White House, but was told by the Bush administration it was booked up for farewell “receptions and gatherings” and was “not available” until January 15, five days before the inauguration.
All I know is, in real estate, you don’t get the keys to your new house early unless the current owners/residents can be out in time. The option for occupancy rightfully belongs to them, and what is needed for move out. And winding down an administration can be just as socially intense as winding up a new one…. however in the case with the Bush family, just with less fanfare.
But the Obamas’, and their dewey-eyed faithful, are already starting with the excuses for “that one’s” request for keys in advance. Young girls Sasha and Malia are due to start school at the same private academy Chelsea attended, Sidwell Friends.
Yet the Obama’s are not the first First Family to move with school age children.
Jimmy Carter came in from Georgia with family the day before the inauguration. No four day event, as the Obama’s have planned…. The Clinton’s came with Chelsea. The 42nd President retraced Thomas Jefferson’s route to the White House three days prior to inauguration.
The Nixons, the Kennedys and the current Bush family all had kids. Somehow, out of the normal early occupancy to accommodate their school starts wasn’t an issue.
Feeling a little “privileged”, are we Mr. President-elect? This stuff truly makes me ill. As if we didn’t have enough BDS for the presidential and CIC decisions, we now have to listen to the faithful whine because the red carpet isn’t rolled out weeks early….
Obama, as we know, is no stranger to big sets, bright lights and overblown staging of events. So the Obama party starts earlier too – on Jan 17th, when he plans to leave the beltway… after he moved there early… in order to emulate the Lincoln journey to the White House.
Mr Obama, emulating Abraham Lincoln in 1861, is also staging a symbolic arrival, taking a train trip from Philadelphia on January 17th stooping en route in Wilmington, Delaware – where he will pick up Vice-President-elect Joe Biden – and Baltimore.
Uh… why not just stay in Chicago until then, Mr. Obama? You’ve moved your entire transition team there, as well as the DNC headquarters. Are you moving everyone twice? Once to a hotel, and then their new offices? If so… on who’s penny?
I suggest the family cool their jets and wait their turn. As he so likes to say… at least in order to dodge the serious doin’s… we have only one President at a time. And he and family live in the White House.
Vietnam era Navy wife, indy/conservative, and an official California escapee now residing as a red speck in the sea of Oregon blue.
Why can’t they move into Blair House? I thought that was the tradition.
After the 15th, they can, Scott. They wanted it as of this weekend… 17 days before inauguration. It’s booked (as post above mentions” with events.
Evidently to the Obama’s, 17 days is a “little early”. Five day would be more normal…
Ah, “events”
I have a tough time believing that The One couldn’t find a place in DC other than a hotel. C’mon, that’s hardly resourceful. He should be able to snap his fingers and move into Ted Kennedy’s place, or Harry Reid’s, or some rich former lobbyist’s. I just don’t see him rollin’ into Motel 6 or the Holiday Inn w family and transition team in tow. If all he can organize is a hotel…this guy’s TOTALLY lacking in creativity when it comes to getting things done. (shocker)
I can see him now… marching through the streets of Washington, his wife on a mule, his children by his side… alas, there is no room at the Inn.
blast, oh wit of cyber-tongue! ROTHLMAO!
Mata, I think the virtual drinks the other day actually worked. Happy New Year Ma’am!
Wha??? Haven’t slept it off yet? Must have been the final tequlia shots… sans chandelier!
And a Happy New Year to you, blast.
Sans Chandelier… *looks around* where is that thing after all! I have a perfect comment to make about drinking virtual drinks while taking pysch meds, but I figure if I say that it will come back to haunt me. Oh, I can’t miss the joke either. Oh the irony!
quit looking around for the chandelier… think it fell from my last “swing” the other night….
Can’t the Messiah sleep in a stable like the original?
What would the press headlines be if Bush asked permission to stay in the White House two weeks past Inauguration Day?
Ferget the headlines, Mike. “Post occupancy” is usually a “per diem” charge. And what do you think Obama’s “per diem” chargefor him, family, staff and entourage… not to mention spending plans… would be?
Da Bush’s best beat the bushes for the new abode. Which, I understand they have purchased. But then… they have to close, and the previous residents must move out.
Ya know, they could end up “forced” into a hotel too. But does this make “da news”?
Frankly, blast has made my night with his visual…. still LMAO!
This reminds me too much of the buyer of our previous home, who turned out to be quite psychotic, much to our disappointment, since we loved our home and it was emotional to move even without any added drama. She (and her sister) literally parked a little ways off (I could see them from my house) on the day I was to turn in my key to the realtor, WAITING for me to leave!!!! Talk about feeling stalked!!
Kudos to President Bush!!! 🙂 He said he is sprinting to the finish, so back off Obamas and let the man finish his job!! Sheesh!
but he is the one and he deserves his rightful home at the white house. my gosh, this just reeks of racism, to make a man and his family live in a hotel, who would have thought in this day and age that would happen….SARCASIM OFF.
“*blast
“*I can see him now… marching through the streets of Washington, his wife on a mule, his children by his side… alas, there is no room at the Inn.
Looks like Barack Obama got his mule and 40+ acres 😉

All glory is fleeting
Oops, wonder what floor they will be staying on and just let the SS deal with the stairwells. Besides, how could anyone named Clover Adams be frightening.
From the Chicago Sun-Times:
The Hay-Adams is among the top-rated luxury hotels in the world, but it’s also allegedly home to a lingering resident, the ghost of Clover Adams, the wife of Henry Adams, a descendant of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, who took her own life in 1885.
The five star, Italian Renaissance-style apartment hotel — where rooms range from $395 to $6,000 for suites — was named for Clover Adams’ acclaimed author husband, and John Hay, private assistant to President Abraham Lincoln. Both owned homes at the site before the hotel was built in 1928.
The national landmark has 145 rooms with ornamental fireplaces, carved plaster ceilings, marble bathrooms, and Bose CD systems — along with Clover Adams’ ghost.
Staff members say the fourth floor is her favorite place, the National Trust for Historic Preservation reports.
“Examples of staff experiences include unexplained opening and closing of locked doors of unoccupied rooms; clock radios mysteriously turning off and on; the sounds of a woman crying softly in a room or a stairwell; or a voice of a woman asking a housekeeper, ‘What do you want?’ ” the Trust reports.
I stayed in the Hay Adams once. It is one of the best hotels in town. And I am sure Obama will have no trouble paying for the bill with the millions in campaign and inaugural funds he has at his disposal.
So that entire slap at the Bush’s for denying him an unprecedented privilege to move in early to Blair House was totally unnecessary.
