My my, what are voters thinking nowadays. Are the denizens of the Queens Borough rue’ing their decision to elevate Democrat City Councilman Hiram Monserrate to the NY State Senate?
Or is this just the profile of politican we all have to choose from… considering, of late, all the corruption and thuggery exposed daily from local to federal levels.
Apparently, per a NYT’s account, Senator-elect Monserrate had a battle with girlfriend, Karla Giraldo, in his Jackson Heights apartment and slashed her face with a broken drinking glass. Then took her to the hospital for the 20 stitches required.

Mr. Monserrate, 41, who is in his final days as a city councilman, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, the police said. If Mr. Monserrate is convicted, state law requires that he be expelled from the Senate.
Monserrate’s lawyer, James Cullen, was quick to pass it off as an innocent accident.
At Mr. Monserrate’s arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on Friday evening, the assistant district attorney, Scott Kessler, said that Mr. Monserrate told the police he was bringing his companion, Karla Giraldo, 30, a glass of water and leaned over and tripped, and the glass hit her.
But the prosecutor said that Ms. Giraldo later said that the couple had a “loud and boisterous” argument about an item he found in her purse. He was holding a glass, which broke in his hand, she told officers.
“Then, in emotion, he stabbed her,” Mr. Kessler said.
Ms. Giraldo is now backing off, saying it was an accident and she didn’t want a protection order. It probably has crossed her mind that Monserrate, a former policeman, may have a lot of buddies inside willing to turn a blind eye if he violated any restraining order.
With this temperment, prosecuting the guy, and getting him expelled from the State Senate might *really* make him mad. Today it’s slashed face. Any bets on what he would do to one who interrupts his career?

This is very scary. We are electing thugs and corruptocrats more and more. Either the Democrapic party doesn’t vet their candidates, or they no longer care that it’s that obvious. What scares me, is the utter lack of knowledge by the electorate. Breath taking!
