Meet Ratwan. A Kurdish born forester who was drafted into saddam’s army during the Iran/Iraq war. He was lucky to have another skill, fluent English, which landed him work outside the army as translator for UN workers. His contacts with UN employees lead him to forming a friendship with a family in Minneapolis-St.Paul. With help from friends, he left Iraq for America in 1991. He walked into this country with $50.00 to his name and went to work washing dishes in MSP. With determination and hard work he opened his restaurant “Babani’s” in 1998.

I was fortunate to join blogger and radio extraordinaire Ed Morrisey for a lunch at Babani’s. The lunch was sponsored by Verizon and featured delicious Kurdish dishes.

The lentil soup was sublime:

A selection of Kurdish delights!

Mmmm, delicious! I’ve developed a new appreciation for middle eastern cuisine.

Oh, did I forget to mention – Ratwan votes Republican!

Just a guess, but it could be because he understands what it means to have the government control most aspects of your life. Its the people that want a more substantial handout, that push for more government. Those of us that work hard, will have to just watch as a thief breaks into our house and takes what is ours, thinking they in actuality, deserve it. Of course they are also the ones spouting lines from the communist manifesto because they had to read 2 chapters in community college. Of course I am just being mean now. And I don’t care. And that food looked awesome.

Not to worry, another Hussein will take it all away from him and give it to a welfare rider if given the chance. It amazes me that people can come from other countries and become so successful, so fast, and 90% of the blacks born in America can’t seem to find they’re way past welfare. It could be because democrats have them down and want to keep them down so they can promise more give aways that never show up. Poor voting for democrats for 50 years and they’re still poor.

How on earth has this been possible?! Especially under the Bushitlerian regime that has driven the economy into the ground for the last 8 years, giving tax breaks to the wealthy and driving a wedge between the “haves” and “have nots”. It’s impossible for a poor man to prosper in Bush’s America, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. No, surely you must be lying, skye!
