Newt:
He does a great job describing some of the Democrats who have some common sense and being pro-energy while describing Pelosi as the measly little shrew she is.
The leadership, the speaker, the Senate majority leader, contemporarily avoid facing reality. It may be that speaker Pelosi believes that going on a book tour and selling her book is a better idea then solving America’s energy problem.
But it still doesn’t make amends for this embarrassing Newt moment.

With Pelosi? …together on a sofa? …talking about Global Warming, no less??!!
arrrrrgh, Newt! What WERE you thinking?!
Please, tell me she got you drunk and you had no idea what you were doing!

Oh, yeah, and before I forget… SIGN THE PETITION!
SQUEEKING OF PELOSI
She’s out hawking her tripe, and will be answering questions posted to The Washington Pest for when she is interviewed by them.
Do you have a question for the Madam? Ask it, here…

Go ahead, you know you want to! Just remember to keep it stupid, otherwise she won’t be able to relate to it.
I’m glad to see our side keeping up the pressure. Too often we do an event or two and just hope that people got the message.
There will be a vote in the House on drilling and Pelosi WILL lose it. Then people may rightly ask: what took so long?
I constantly play the “If I were the President, I’d…” mental game. When I saw the Republican protest the other day, and again after I saw Newt’s comments about the book tour, I thought to myself,
“Man, if I were President I would SO force Congress to come back, and I’d tell them that they’re not to adjourn until an energy bill is passed that I could sign, not to adjourn until judges are approved, and so forth”
GWB’s got three real powers left as President
1) he can attack a country like Iran
2) he can veto crap from Congress
3) he can call Congress back to session
He’s not gonna do #1
He’s done #2 well, but
WHY?! doesn’t he do #3?
“You can lead a horse to water…..” President Bush can call them back, but can’t set the agenda. Results of Bush calling them back would probably refocus the current topic of our urgent energy needs to a back and forth of–our energy problems vs Repubs are just propping up big oil. Letting it sit leaves the responsibility of this fiasco right in Madame Speaker’s lap and the single focus is maintained as a number of Repubs are spending time back in DC focusing on energy needs and Pelosi’s unwillingness to allow a vote.
We now have McCain calling Obama out to take time off the campaign to go back and work on the crisis, our lame-duck is letting him have the floor. When this shows up in the debates, Obama will have to spin his way out of another one after the “American People” endure another month or two of high costs. IMHO
You’re right Missy. He can’t technically set the agenda. He can call them back, and they could sit around doing nothing-err, more of nothing. Still, it’s no skin off his poll numbers if he were to say, “I’m gonna keep calling you back until….”
imo, it needs to be done-not for politics, but for the nation. The American people are paying big money to members of Congress, and trust those people with trillions of dollars-as well as our lives, and yet these people who complain about “recession! recession!” go on recess themselves for over a month? No. That’s not acceptable to me. I don’t care if my Congressman was a D or an R, I’d want that smeghead to get back to DC and do his/her freakin job! That means Obama AND McCain too.
Have to agree with Missy on this one Scott. Calling them back would put the issue at the Presidents feet and would accomplish nothing. If the Democrats refuse to allow a vote then calling them back doesn’t force them to allow it to go up for a vote…
Curt, one of the objectives to calling them back would be to point out the recession/recess hypocrisy to the American people. I think calling them back would do that. Dems don’t bring it up for a vote, then as every day passes, the press is increasingly compelled to cover it. If they do bring it up for a vote, GWB just has to say it’s not the one he wanted, OR in the best case scenario he’d finally get the bill America needs, and it’d be because Republicans forced it.
Recall if you will, The West Wing episode where Martin Sheen walked to Capitol Hill, and sat, and waited outside a committee room until they gave him the budget he wanted. The press went nuts. The left still goes nuts. It’s what a President is supposed to do imo. He can’t control Congress, but he can-as Truman did-demand they come back and do their own jobs.
People who voted for Congressional Democrats in 2006 must be reminded of all the excuses, flat out lies, and failures of those Democrats. They created issues, cried about them, demanded action, promised solutions, and did nothing.
nothing.
This is the worst Congress since the Civil War imo, and that is the issue that needs to be taken to the American people in the most dire kind of way. I think the continuous, deliberate misleading, inept, and partisan dictates of the Democrats’ Congress should be shown to the American people at every opportunity. There are hundreds of Democrats running=hundreds of Republicans should be running ads showing the before/after 2006 promises. It truly bothers me that with approval ratings as low as the Democrats’ Congress…they are likely to GAIN seats rather than lose them. I blame that on a lack of exposure.
yeah, I couldn’t believe when I first saw that pelosi -gingrich commercial – thought I was going to vomit all over my family room floor!
anyway, not that I want my fellow Americans – especially those that REQUIRE gasoline for their daily job expenses – to suffer from high gasoline prices (I am worrying about this Winter’s oil bill – ouch), but I would prefer to see nothing done on drilling or the like up until election day – it might be the only way to keep certain Americans very angry and very focused and vote the deadwood and anti-American liberals out of Washington – including deadwood and soft RINOs.
