My childhood:
I always read this video as more about assimilation than of multiculturalism:
A former fetus, the “wordsmith from nantucket” was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1968. Adopted at birth, wordsmith grew up a military brat. He achieved his B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (graduating in the top 97% of his class), where he also competed rings for the UCLA mens gymnastics team. The events of 9/11 woke him from his political slumber and malaise. Currently a personal trainer and gymnastics coach.
The wordsmith has never been to Nantucket.
Brings back memories. I remember watching these after the Buggs Bunny and Road Runnner show.
Good old “Conjunction Function”,”Planet Janet” and “I am a Bill on Capitol Hill”
Then the movie of the wek. “The Hobbit”(Lord of the Rings), “The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe(Narnia)” and many other good cartoon movies.
Multiculturalism is killing the “Melting Pot” ao what we used to be. We all came from all over the place but assimilated into the American Dream. Now we are fractured and have our hyphenated American balkanization.
For whatever it’s worth, some company released all the original Schoolhouse Rock segments in a DVD box set as well as a CD box set. Also there is a CD of Schoolhouse Rock tribute songs covered by various artists called “Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks.” I was released in 1996 & I own a copy. It’s quite good. Some of the artists include Better Than Ezra, The Lemonheads, and Ween. Good stuff!
Yes my friend has got the CD of Shcollhouse Rocks Rocks. It is prett cool.
Yeah, it’s Disney that released the DVD set, because of two reasons:
– Disney bought ABC, the network that originally did Schoolhouse Rock
– Disney’s ex-CEO Michael Eisner was the ABC executive that approved the production of Schoolhouse Rock.
Of course “The Great American Melting Pot” was about assimilation over multi-culti. Also, look at how “Elbow Room” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twFs9Vk6F0A) sings unselfconcoiusly about manifest destiny and expanding American territory to the moon.
Can you imagine the drooling drug-addled stars of today even knowing the parts of speech, much less writing catchy and easy to understand songs explaining them to kids?
Don’t forget this one 🙂
