Obama Will Meet With Who Now?

The Obama campaign must really be full of dunces. Who in their right mind came up with trying to excuse Obama’s ineptness at statemanship by claiming that hey, maybe he didn’t mean he would meet with achmedanutjob but with the Ayatollah instead. Susan Rice maybe? She was the first to spin this yesterday:

BLITZER: “How does Senator Obama defend that decision to meet without preconditions with a leader like Ahmadinejad?”

RICE: “Well, first of all, he said he’d meet with the appropriate Iranian leaders. He hasn’t named who that leader will be. It may, in fact be that by the middle of next of year, Ahmadinejad is long gone.”

BLITZER: “Let’s be precise because when they criticize Barack Obama, not only John McCain but others, for suggesting that he would meet without preconditions with Ahmadinejad, who only last week on Israel’s 60th anniversary called Israel a ‘stinking corpse.’ The question that they ask is what is Barack Obama going to talk with him about?”

RICE: “Well, first of all as I said, it would be the appropriate Iranian leadership at the appropriate time – not necessarily Ahmadinejad.”

And then the ever nutty Joe Klein kept it going with an interview with McCain:

KLEIN: I’ve done some research, and um –

MCCAIN: I have too.

KLEIN: Also checked, also checked with the Obama campaign and he never, he’s never sai — mentioned Ahmadinejad directly by name. He did say he would negotiate with the leaders, but as you know – Ayatollah,

MCCAIN: (Laughing) Ahmadinejad is, was the leader.

KLEIN: But if –

MCCAIN: Maybe I’m mistaken.

KLEIN: Maybe you are, because –

MCCAIN: Maybe. I don’t think so though.

KLEIN: The Supreme, you know, according to most diplomatic experts, the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is the guy who’s in charge of Iranian foreign policy and also in charge of the nuclear program, but you never mention him. Do you, you know, um, why do you always keep talking about Ahmadinejad since he doesn’t have power in that, in that realm?

MCCAIN: Oh I thin-Again, I respectfully disagree. When he’s the person that comes to the United Nations and declares his country’s policy is the extermination of the state of Israel, quote, in his words, wipe them off of the map, then I know that he is speaking for the Iranian government and articulating their policy and he was elected and is running for reelection as the leader of that country. Yes sir, go ahead.

NEW REPORTER: One more quest-

MCCAIN: I mean, the fact is he’s the acknowledged leader of that country and you may disagree, but that’s a uh, that’s your right to do so, but I think if you asked any average American who the leader of Iran is, I think they’d know. Go ahead. Or anyone who’s well-versed in the issue.

So which one is Obama going to sit down with? Achmedanutjob or Ali Khamenei?

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Friday for the destruction of Israel, describing it as a “cancerous tumor” in the Middle East.

“Iran’s stance has always been clear on this ugly phenomenon (Israel). We have repeatedly said that this cancerous tumor of a state should be removed from the region,” Khamenei told thousands of Muslim worshippers in Tehran.

“The Palestinian issue is not an internal Israeli matter. It involves the interests of the whole Islamic world, including Iran. All should strive to return that piece of land to Islamic hands.”

Khamenei offered an alternative solution which he said might be more “internationally acceptable”:

“Palestinian refugees should return and Muslims, Christians and Jews could choose a government for themselves, excluding immigrant Jews.

“No one will allow a bunch of thugs, lechers and outcasts from London, America and Moscow to rule over the Palestinians,” the ayatollah said in remarks broadcast on state radio.

Oh yeah, thats better. Just meet with that guy Big O’…..that won’t make you look like an appeaser….not at all.

Sigh.

But wait…it gets better. Remember the crack reporter, Joe Klein, said:

On Friday, I promised to check into whether Obama had ever said that he would negotiate — specifically, by name — with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Indeed, according to the crack Time Magazine research department and the Obama campaign, he never has.

Michael Goldfarb found proof that he DID mention that he would negotiate with Ahmedanutjob within a few hours. Guess Joe was too busy fitting that tinfoil hat?

Goldfarb:

But now we have a new narrative: Obama intends to meet with Ali Khamenei, the man with the real power in Tehran, because even though Obama pledged to meet with Ahmadinejad, and said it was a “disgrace” that Bush had not, he never had any intention of meeting with Ahmadinejad, and McCain is a liar for saying different.

The Dems and their boosters in the press are tying themselves in knots trying to explain Obama’s position. So what the heck is his policy? We have a right to know. Does Obama still intend to meet with Ahmadinjead? Does he intend to meet with Khamenei? And if he doesn’t intend to meet with A’Jad, why the sudden shift?

There is a lot of lying and obfuscation going on here, but none of it is emanating from the McCain camp.

It’s still baffling that a man as inexperienced, naive, and lacking so much good judgement as gotten this far in the primary, but then again we ARE talking about the Democrats.
