Motoring south to DC , I wasn’t sure what to expect this past weekend outside of meeting Sunlitknight, Snooper and Paul Couturier. Between the three of us, we planned to cover the IVAW events and the pro-troop rally sponsored by Eagles Up, Move America Forward, and Gathering of Eagles. My work schedule only permitted time for me to follow the Pro Troop rally in DC.
My apprehension turned into delight at the increasing number of people who gathered at the foot of the Washington Monument. As the organizers did what they do best – organize – as I mingled with the crowd. I bumped into This Ain’t Hell’s Jonn Lilyea, MAF’s Debbie Lee and Melanie Morgan then bowled over Concrete Bob at the Monument. During all of this, Sunlightknight, Paul and myself organized the live Blog Talk Radio coverage of the march. You thought I just sit and look pretty at these rallies, didn’t you.
The speakers were courageous and inspiring – conveying messages of hope and victory – unlike the public platform expressed by IVAW and VFP in Silver Spring, MD. What makes an event memorable are the people you interact with and this day was unusual in the diversity personalities I encountered.

Captain America so rocked!!
Anyone know where to get one of those flags?
What about the platform of IVAW do you dislike? You said you didn’t even go to their event in your article, so… Are you familiar with their 3 goals?
Also, your use of the word "pro-troop" to describe the pro-war crowd is misleading. We are all "pro-troop", we simply have different ideas of how to show it. The pro-Iraq-war crowd is stuck on the rhetoric of "winning", "victory", and other buzzwords. Win what? They are also fixated on the idea that if we pull out, the 4000 deaths so far would be in vain. In other words, they want others to die to satisfy their emotions and blind patriotism?
The anti-Iraq-war crowd is diverse. Some are against all wars, and some just aren’t happy with this one, considering we attacked a country that did nothing to us, on made up reasons. The only thing we have in common, is we want the troops home, safely. IVAW has 3 "goals", which is (1) withdrawal of occupying forces, (2) reparations for human and structural damages to help Iraqis control their own future, and (3) make sure returning troops get adequate health care and benefits. That’s the platform. It’s not so bad, is it?
People like Gathering of Eagles, their main platform seems to be slandering veterans of the very war they support. Just look at the picture you included on your own blog, referring to us as commies. They call veterans phony and liars. They say we are undermining the troops, when we "are" and "were" the troops. How they relate wanting the troops home safely so they can protect our own country, to things like undermining, treason, communism, etc, is beyond me. They basically mislead the public. Their use of words like "raghead" when referring to Iraqis should tell you where their mindset and emotions are.
That’s a different Scott btw
