Watch this Berkeley city council in action and hear “Marines are trained killers!” “They are nothing but the Presidents own gangsters!” from the elected leaders of that waste of a city.
Meanwhile the bill to transfer 2 million dollars in hidden earmarks slated to go to the city to the Marines instead is moving forward. Wonder of wonders, the council is now walking backwards on their statement:
As six Republican senators devised a plan to yank $2.3 million in federal funding for Berkeley programs, the mayor of the famously liberal city apologized Wednesday for his hard stance against a Marine recruiting center.
Two City Council members vowed to soften their stance as well. At their Tuesday council meeting, leaders will discuss scrapping a letter that might be perceived as targeting the center or the Marines. The letter said that the recruiting center was not welcome on Shattuck Avenue and that the Marines were uninvited and unwelcome intruders.
“That letter will probably be pulled back and maybe more moderate language will be put in place which is appropriate I think,” said Berkeley mayor Tom Bates. “Subtly stated in the resolution is perhaps an impugning of the soldiers fighting for us in Iraq and other places,” Berkeley City Councilman Laurie Capitelli. “And that was never the intention but that really needs to be cleared up. As I walked to my car that night I realized I regretted it and I had made a mistake.”
What? Not the intention. They are on record, on video stating that the Marines are nothing but the President’s own gangsters and hired killers! That was not the intention!

Here’s what Berkeley stands to lose in earmarks:
— $975,000 for the University of California at Berkeley, for the Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service;
— $750,000 for the Berkeley/Albana ferry service;
— $243,000 for the Chez Panisse Foundation, a school lunch initiative to integrate lessons about wellness, sustainability, and nutrition into the school curriculum;
— $94,000 for a Berkeley public safety interoperability program;
— $87,000 for the Berkeley Unified School District, nutrition education program.
Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates, is a former Army captain. Residual service rivalry? Don’t know, I’m just sayin’.
Not everyone in Berkeley supports the lunatic fringe sitting on the city Council. Hundreds of citizens demanded the letter be taken back.

So now that they have been called out, recorded, and found that their actions have consequences, the “brave” city council who “stood up” to Marines who would not harm them no matter how many times Code Pink slandered them, berated them, and vandalized their recruiting station, are now backtracking in fear when the only language they understand (earmarks) are put in play.
Sniveling Cowards. That is all I can call them. If they had the spine to stand by their convictions and lose federal funding, then there would be a marginal chance I might have something close to a better opinion of these useful idiots. Of course, if they could make their, very rich, city live without federal funding, they might disprove their own socialist propaganda.

First they would’nt let a Navy Ship dock there for some reason I forget, then they gave our Soldiers hell when they were going from one flight to another at Oakland Intl Airpoint. No, I do not want any disaster to befall them. Even if their own stupidity is the cause of it, I do not want them to die because of it. If they die, all be it because they shunned help, colluded with the enemy, or were generally unprepared for a disaster, it still means I have failed my oath to Support and Defend them from all threats (even their own ignorant arrogance).

That would be weird to have Berkley suffer a like problem that New Orleans suffered. Remember FEMA couldn’t set up temp housing because it was illegal to set up temp housing in a flood zone.
Imagine the Berkley mayor asking for help and the reply is, “We were going to send in the marines, but your own law prevents us from sending in the marines, so your city is SOL.”
What starts in Berkley doesn’t stay in Berkely.
If a Republican wins the Presidency, and/or Republicans win either house of Congress, this will continue and spread. It doesn’t matter if it’s the war in Iraq or something else. US forces could evacuate Iraq tomorrow, and they’d rant against the oppression of the Afghans. Every President fights a war, and you can guarantee this will happen again and more loudly when the next troop deployment or air campaign begins.
There are three consistent factors for the post Vietnam anti-war/anti-military movement:
1) it will not bring peace
2) it will not go away
3) peace, and anti-war sentiments are only the vocal and visual catalysts for deeper political frustration and alienation most of which is only remotely tied to opinions based or formed around war.
Ironically, uber-left moonbat David Corn (currently a writer for Mother Jones) said it best in 2002. He pointed out that anti war groups like ANSWER etc are being used by political extremists to push agendas that are not in America’s best interests, but are instead in support of the radical interests of their political organizers. He also pointed out the danger that such a movement could pose to the Democratic Party if if became large, organized, and well-funded. He was right. ‘Course, as soon as the anti-war movement embraced BDS, he joined the lovefest too. Why? Because it embraced BDS; an expression of misguided/misled political dissatisfaction, alienation, frustration that has little to do with war, and everything to do with being deliberately misled by people with wacked out political aims. Among those aims are commonly: socialism, globalism (the removal of US sovereignty in favor of UN sovereignty), fascism, communism, marxism, and even anarchy.
I never was a Marine, so I can’t speak for them. But I did go through basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and Advanced Infantry Training at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. When I graduated from there I was, indeed, a well trained killer. That’s what the military is all about, son.

I also went to Knox. I was born there. I went through Officer Basic, The Captains Career Course, and a few others. We are well trained, but we kill within the regulations set by the Law of Land Warfare (FM 27-10). Our enemies kill indiscriminately and wantonly, we do not. Psycho killers are not wanted or needed in the US Armed Forces. Our enemies “hug” civilians to use as shields. If we were what these Berkeley morons thought we are, then we would gun down the civilians to get to the jihadists. Instead, we use our better training and technology to shoot around the civilians as much as possible, resulting in an extremely high amount of head shots on our targets.
That is what a professional military is all about. Though I am trying to remember when we had Infantry AIT at Polk, so you may be way before my time.
The Iraqis understand this and appreciate our professionalism and it is one of the many reasons they turned against AQI and the Maadis. Berkeley officials obviously do not appreciate this and seem upset we are defeating AQI and the Maadis.
