Wow! What a game. Eli Manning and the Giants have stunned the “best team in history” (sure thing) and did it with 35 seconds left in the game.
MVP should be the Giants defense, shared with Eli of course.
The Giants had the perfect answer for the suddenly imperfect Patriots: a big, bad defense and an improbable comeback led by their own Mr. Cool quarterback, Eli Manning.
In one of football’s biggest shockers, New York shattered New England’s unbeaten season as Manning hit Plaxico Burress on a 13-yard fade with 35
seconds left in the Super Bowl. Sunday’s 17-14 win was the Giants’ 11th straight on the road, and the first time the Patriots tasted defeat in more than a year.
It was the most bitter of losses, too, because New England (18-1) was one play from winning, but its defense couldn’t stop a 12-play, 83-yard drive that featured a spectacular leaping catch by David Tyree, who scored New York’s first touchdown.
What a great game. Oh, btw, being a long time old school 49er fan I have to point out one fact. Joe Montana went to the Superbowl four times, won four times. So all this talk about Brady being the best ever can now silently fade away…..
As a added bonus Tom Petty played at halftime. Being a fan I figured I would put the whole show up for the readers of FA who also enjoy his stuff….He hit all my favorites.

Mark Cuban should be happy, his Dallas Mavericks are no longer the biggest championship chokers in sports history.
I agree. MVP should be Eli combined with the DEFENSE. They did an excellent job at stopping the Patriots.
OF course, I HAD to relate it to the election. It was conventional wisdom that the Patriots would win, and they were wrong. Let’s hope the conventional wisdom that McClinton wins is wrong and Romney scores a huge SUPER TUESDAY SUPERBOWL win!
Curt what year did the 49ers also finish 18-1 and won the Superbowl? The Bears did it after the 85 season and won the 86 superbowl to go 18-1. That Bears team would have murdered Tom Terrific and the Patriots.
Cheaters Never Prosper. Sweet.
1984. Finished the season 15-1, then won the two playoff games and the superbowl. When it came to the big games Joe never choked, but Tom has. The next year those Bears also went 18-1, but Joe and the 9ers went 4 times in the 80’s…won them all.
Curt,
May I calmly poit out that the first QB to go to four Superbowls and win all four was named Terry Bradshaw. Montana is at best tied for first and in my mind second.
That punk at New England is not even in the discussion.
Sorry Old Dog, Bradshaw takes backseat to Montana imo. He was good, but not the best.
Ah, we now have the generation gap. May I suggest Sir that we simply agree to disagree. As neither of us could prove our case beyond a shadow.
Montana is your Generations.
Bradshaw is mine. Let us merely state, “Damn them Boys was good!”
Oh, I agree completely Old Dog. This new generation will be doing the same with Brady but with a 3-1 SB record he can’t compete with either. Football is so subjective, whenever I hear announcers talking about “best in history” I cringe.
Actually, I like Brady. He is calm like Joe, worshiped Joe as a youngster, and has many of his attributes…but I didn’t want to see him tie Joe, or Terry for that matter. Selfish that way I guess.
Oh and I agree.
The key here is theat Brady was there and lost. Joe and Terry both found a way to win every time.
That is not subject to generational differnces, that is a fact. When faced with adversity the two best found a way.
I’ll tip one to that my brother!
Given the degree to which New England’s “win” was considered pre-ordained, I would compare this upset of a calibre with the New York Jets win over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bown III.
Both New York teams as well, except that this time the “NFC” was the underdog
Hey! I agree with Stevo! Will wonders never cease?
I live in Detroit…. We see the Superbowl… We just never play in it.
Ouch! But true. Looked like Kitna was going to pull out that 10 win promise for awhile, but it fell apart.
At least you did better then my 9ers tho.
Detroit did better than last year…. Which is not saying much…. They are a great group of individuals, but not a team.
