Is It Really A Race In Ohio?

Bryan at Hot Air makes the case that Hillary, or any Democrat for that matter, is not that electable if we are talking about that most important of states in an election, Ohio.  According to this recent poll done by Quinnipac, illegal immigration is a hot button topic with one easy answer.  Enforcement, not accommodation:

Ohio voters oppose 84 – 11 percent issuing driver’s licenses to illegal
immigrants, and by large margins favor building a fence along the Mexican-U.S.
border and creating a national ID card for all legal residents and citizens.
They also oppose, 61 – 35 percent, providing a free public education to children
of those in the United States illegally, according to a Quinnipiac University
poll released today.

“The message to presidential candidates from Ohio, perhaps the most important
swing state in the Electoral College, is that voters – be they Democrats,
Republicans or independents – are very frustrated with illegal immigration and
come down on the side of toughness rather than accommodation,” [Peter Brown,
assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute] said.

Seeing as how all the Democrats running for President, except Chris Dodd, are either mildly for, or outright support, drivers licenses for illegals this could mean dark days ahead for Democrats in Ohio.  Of course Hillary being a Clinton means she will NOW be against those licenses, whichever way the poll wind blows is the Clinton motto.

Oh, and on that whole “no Republican can be elected in ’08 because of Bush” meme:

Voters disagree 61 – 33 percent with the assumption that no Republican can be
elected President in 2008 because of Bush’s low approval and the war in Iraq.
Democrats agree 50 – 41 percent, while Republicans disagree 84 – 11 percent and
independent voters disagree with the statement 62 – 33 percent.

Put these issues together with their utter failure to lead this country with a majority in Congress, their constant drumbeat of despair over Iraq even though all the evidence points toward a complete turnaround there, and their calls to raise taxes in one way or another, and you have to really question their chances in 08′

Clinton Says No to Licenses for Illegals

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday came out against granting
driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, after weeks of pressure in the
presidential race to take a position on a now-failed ID plan from her home state
governor.

Clinton has faced criticism from candidates in both parties for her
noncommittal answers on New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s attempt to allow illegal
immigrants in his state to receive driver’s licenses. Spitzer abandoned the
effort Wednesday.

“I support Governor Spitzer’s decision today to withdraw his proposal,”
Clinton said in a statement. “As president, I will not support driver’s licenses
for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that
deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border
security and fixing our broken system.”

After saying she was for it, then maybe not, then maybe for it again, she is now against it again.

Now that is leadership.

Whichever way the poll blows.
