Not to be outdone by the idiocy of Schumer, now Harry Reid wants to display his utter ignorance. Here is a section of the just released NIE:
We assess that al-Qa’ida will continue to enhance its capabilities to attack the Homeland through greater cooperation with regional terrorist groups. Of note, we assess that al-Qa’ida will probably seek to leverage the contacts and capabilities of al-Qa’ida in Iraq (AQI), its most visible and capable affiliate and the only one known to have expressed a desire to attack the Homeland. In addition, we assess that its association with AQI helps al-Qa’ida to energize the broader Sunni extremist community, raise resources, and to recruit and indoctrinate operatives, including for Homeland attacks.
Which means….drum roll please……that al-Qaeda will most likely join with al-Qaeda in Iraq and attack the United States. Really not too hard to figure that one out huh?
But here is Reid’s and his fellow Democrats response:
Mr. Reid said the report underlines the urgent need to change course in Iraq, an argument also made by Representative Ike Skelton, the Missouri Democrat who heads the House Armed Services Committee. “We must responsibly redeploy our troops out of Iraq,” Mr. Skelton said in an interview with The Associated Press. “This will allow us to concentrate our efforts on Afghanistan and the Al Qaeda terrorists who attacked us on 9/11.”
So instead of sticking with a strategy that is working in Iraq in which we are killing and capturing record numbers of al-Qaeda in Iraq, the same guys who, as the NIE noted, are or will join up with al-Qaeda to attack the homeland, we should instead just run from the fight.
Now THAT is a strategy.
Sigh….

And just where does the good Senator Reid want us to deploy our troops to?
Conveniently he doesn’t say.
More to the point, what ME country would take our troops? Who would trust us to stay when going gets rough? Surely al Qaeda will simply attack us in our new location. And once again, the Democrats will demand a new “redeployment”.
But really, who am I kidding? The Dems don’t want to “redeploy” to another ME country, or even to Afghanistan. They want to bring all of the troops home and then sit and watch the ME go up in flames.
And let’s not forget that al-Qaeda will redeploy too. They’ll send forces to Afghanistan, and allied with the Taliban will redouble their efforts to throw us out, using the same tactics that they used against us in Iraq. Democrats will soon grow weary of the war, and will once again set unrealistic “benchmarks” for the Afghan government.
Pretty soon they’ll be calling for a “redeployment” from Afghanistan. And then we’ll be back to Sept 10 all over again.
If we pull out of Iraq we cannot leave one American in the Middle East. Pull them out 100% and bring them to the United States, they will be needed here to fight the terrorists. We know that only half of the citizens will fight the terrorists to protect the lives of their families and we know they are not democrats. It’s going to be hard for 150,000 troops to protect all 50 states so we’ll have to give up some of them (states).
