The “Cut ‘n’ Run” Drum Beats Louder

The drum beats for surrender beat louder and louder. With news that a September progress report from General David Petraeus may not reveal enough tangible evidence, either positive or negative, the inevitable calls for immediate troop withdrawal can only grow louder.

According to the USA Today, “Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno, Petraeus’ deputy, told reporters at the Pentagon via video link from Baghdad that there had been ‘significant success in the security arena in recent weeks but that September might be too soon to say with certainty whether the progress was "just a blip."

“’In order to do a good assessment, I need at least till November to do that,’ Odierno said.”

“"The challenges are immense," Crocker said, also via video link from Baghdad. He cited a legacy of fear left by the regime of Saddam Hussein that is intensified by sectarian fighting.”

Democrats seem to be hoping upon hope that the surge fails. Regardless of the news, the “cut and run” crowd is on a train without brakes. In other words, there’s no stoppin’ ‘em now.

What would the Democrats have the military do? Simple…withdraw and let the Iraqi government and people fend themselves by warding off death squads, Shiite and Sunni, will that undoubtedly prey upon those not adhering to Sharia law.

Evidently to the Democrats, their utterance would be this, “damn the consequences, let’s surrender.”

The Left simply cannot fathom that the war in Iraq is merely one battle in a war of ideologies between the West and Islam. Moreover, they cannot comprehend that a significant portion of Islamists do not possess the skill sets to resolve conflicts peacefully nor compromise. They merely consult the “good Koran” and absorb the endless passages regarding “death by the sword.”

“(S)everal Republicans on the Foreign Relations Committee were critical of U.S. policy.

"We’re putting our troops in a terrible position, overburdening them with an almost impossible task," said Chuck Hagel, R-Neb. "We’re buying time for what? … We’re in our fifth year, and we still see no political reconciliation occurring. Actually, I think we’re going backward."

"The American people’s patience is running out," said George Voinovich, R-Ohio.

"It is likely that there will be changes in military missions and force levels as the year proceeds," said Richard Lugar of Indiana, the committee’s ranking Republican.

What’s even more startling is that Republicans have jumped on the “cut and rain” train as well. These sentiments are surprising in that they have fought to maintain funding for troops while the Democrats have stopped at nothing to usurp the American soldiers.

Rather, call it disappointing…the Left has unabashedly pandered to the far-left fringe groups that truly believe American is responsible for terrorism. Unless they’re stopped, this country will suffer a defeat tantamount to Vietnam, potentially destroying our collective psyche and pride.
