Israel closed the border between Rafah and Egypt today to stop Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh from entering with $35 million in cash which he got from his tour of the terror-supporting Arab states. Of course Hamas wasn’t too happy with this act so terrorists being terrorists, they tried to open the border with force:
Five people were wounded on Thursday night in renewed clashes at the Rafah border crossing, hours after Hamas gunmen tried to seize control of the terminal, on the Egypt-Gaza border, Channel 1 reported.
Witnesses said Hamas gunmen were firing at the Egyptian side of the border, drawing return fire from the Egyptians and presidential guards from Fatah.
During the battle, masked gunmen in three cars and a bulldozer stormed the terminal, witnesses said. The gunmen went on a rampage inside the building, destroying computers and furniture inside and plunging the area into darkness, the witnesses said.
Earlier, three Palestinian government cars crossed through the Rafah border crossing into Egypt on Thursday to fetch Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh after Israel finally granted him permission to cross into Gaza but on condition that he left behind the 35 million US dollars he earlier tried to smuggle into the Strip.
An agreement was reached between Israeli and Egyptian security officials whereby the money would remain in the border town of El Arish and then be deposited in an Arab League bank account in Cairo, Israel Radio reported.
The Egyptians guaranteed that the money, seemingly collected by Haniyeh during his recent visits to Iran and Sudan, would not be transferred into the Gaza Strip.
Witnesses saw three cars cross through the border area, despite an earlier announcement by European monitors that the border was closed.
So Egypt collects the money and Israel believes it won’t find it’s way back into the blood covered hands of Hamas?
Sure thing.
I think I can hear Jimmy Carter’s annoying voice in the background blaming the Jews for all this.
