The start of the cease fire between Israel and Lebanon has pretty much played out as most of us expected:
IT was supposed to be the day the maligned Lebanese army took control of the country's borders and policed the UN ceasefire.
Instead, the military commanders were left humiliated and troops stranded as Hezbollah told them not to disarm its fighters.
The first infantry units were preparing to head south when Hezbollah showed who controls the area by announcing it would not surrender its weapons.
General Michel Sleiman, commander-in-chief of the Lebanese army, and his lieutenants had been invited to join cabinet meetings to finalise plans to deploy the 15,000-strong force south of the Litani River.
But they were lectured by Hezbollah's two ministers in the coalition Government on what the army could and could not do.
And:
Just 4 hours after a UN brokered Israel Lebanon ceasefire was to take affect, the terror organization Hezbollah attacked an IDF force in south Lebanon.
"A group of armed Hezbollah terrorists approached an IDF force in the south Lebanon village of Hadatha," an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson told the Israel News Agency.
"The IDF force took defensive positions, requested that they lay their arms down, fired warning shots and then fired at the approaching Hezbollah terrorists. The firefight occured over a short period of time. No IDF injuries were reported."
In accepting UN Resolution 1701 for which both the Lebanon and Israel governments accepted, Israel maintained the right to defend herself. As such, the 40,000 IDF troops now operating on the Lebanon Israel border will continue to "neutralize" all areas between the Israel border and the Litani river of Hezbollah terrorists.
Hezbollah has refused to lay their weapons down. This has created a schism between Hezbollah and the Lebanon government which is waiting to deploy their army and open humanitarian aid to south Lebanon.
In other shocking news….water is wet, snow is cold, hell is hot, and bears crap in the woods.
All I know is that those kidnapped soldiers are still not released, the Lebanese army cannot deploy and force Hezbollah to lay down their arms, the supposed international force that is going to make sure the cease fire works consists of France, Malaysia, and Indonesia (scary group there huh?), and Hezbollah still has rockets and can still fire them….
I don't know about you but I think this cease fire isn't going to work.
