Murtha Caught In A Lie

Kinda interesting that when Murtha began his campaign against the Marine Corps in Haditha on May 17th he told the press that he had been briefed on the incident.  Now we find out he wasn't briefed by the Marine Corps until May 24th:

Asked about this in the interview, Murtha said the information came from Gen. Michael Hagee, the commandant of the Marine Corps, in a one-on-one conversation the day before Hagee made a trip to Iraq. Hagee did not use the term "in cold blood," he added.

Col. Dave Lapan, a Marine spokesman, disputed Murtha's account.

He said the commandant did brief Murtha about the Haditha incident. But he said that was on May 24, a week after Murtha made his public comment. The next day, May 25, Hagee left for Iraq, he said.

So does this mean we have another anti-Bush leaker inside either the civilian or military intelligence community?  Or did those Hammurabi founders in Haditha whisper sweet nothings into Murtha's ear and he ran screaming to the MSM?

Could it have been this guy?

An Iraqi journalist working for Reuters was released from U.S. military custody at Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad on Thursday after 12 days in detention.

Ali al-Mashhadani, 37, was arrested by U.S. Marines in his home town of Ramadi on May 20 when he went to a U.S. base to retrieve Reuters telephones taken from him earlier that week.

Shortly before May 17th Murtha gets some information about the incident from someone.  3 days later a cameraman with connections to the founders of Hammurabi is arrested as he tries to get onto a US base to retrieve numbers that were taken from him.  Why were these numbers taken from him?  Was he trying to contact a US Congressman by chance?

He is then released quite quickly….was some strings pulled for him?

Recall that this same guy spent months in jail because he had connections to the terrorists inside Iraq.

I know, getting into tinfoil hat territory but something to consider.

Additionally, this really doesn't make me feel any better about the Commandant.  I mean why would he keep this secret for so long?  I have a feeling it's because of the upcoming lawsuit by SSgt Wuterich.  He knows this will come out soon so he better get it out there into the public domain when he can.  Speaks volumes about the type of man and Marine this Commandant is.
