The Corruption Inside The Democratic Party

The Democrats try to paint the Republican Party as corrupt. When we point out all the corruption in their own party they try to brush it away but me thinks this one will not be brushed away anytime soon:

Police labor union officials asked acting Chief Christopher McGaffin this afternoon to allow a Capitol Police officer to complete his investigation into an early-morning car crash involving Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.).

According to a letter sent by Officer Greg Baird, acting chairman of the USCP FOP, the wreck took place at approximately 2:45 a.m. Thursday when Kennedy?s car, operating with its running lights turned off, narrowly missed colliding with a Capitol Police cruiser and smashed into a security barricade at First and C streets Southeast.

?The driver exited the vehicle and he was observed to be staggering,? Baird?s letter states. Officers approached the driver, who ?declared to them he was a Congressman and was late to a vote. The House had adjourned nearly three hours before this incident. It was Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy from Rhode Island.?

Baird wrote that Capitol Police Patrol Division units, who are trained in driving under the influence cases, were not allowed to perform basic field sobriety tests on the Congressman. Instead, two sergeants, who also responded to the accident, proceeded to confer with the Capitol Police watch commander on duty and then ?ordered all of the Patrol Division Units to leave the scene and that they were taking over.?

Baird said he had been advised that after the officers departed, Capitol Police ?House Division officials? gave Kennedy a ride home.

Kennedy?s office did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

?If the events unfolded as they have been reported to me, and I believe they did, a complete and immediate investigation into them is required,? Baird wrote to McGaffin. Baird asked the acting chief why officers on the scene were prevented from completing the appropriate investigation ?into violations of law they witnessed. This appears to be interference with their duties as U.S. Capitol Police Officers and may have prevented the collection of evidence of such violations.”

?My members were attempting to carry out their duties with the professionalism and objectivity their oaths require. They should have been assisted in those duties by every level of supervision and command. Instead these circumstances call the integrity of our organization into question by creating the appearance of special favor for someone who is perceived to be privileged and powerful,? Baird wrote.

While a Capitol Police spokeswoman could not be reached for comment, Baird said in an interview this afternoon that McGaffin had contacted him about his letter.

?I want the public and those who we protect to know that we are fair and impartial when it comes to enforcing the laws on capitol grounds and the officers are doing their jobs in accordance to the laws and D.C. code and U.S. code,? he said.? That?s really why we want this addressed.?

William Jefferson:

Democrats in the House of Representatives will not put public pressure on Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) to resign his position, even though he has been tied to the receipt of bribes in excess of $450,000, RAW STOY has learned.

Alan Mollohan:

The New York Times (04/08/06) detailed how Rep. Mollohan has directed $250 million to five nonprofit organizations that he set up. On April 21, Rep. Mollohan stepped down from his position as the senior Democrat on the House Ethics Committee.

CAGW identified $480 million for pork projects added in the House or in conference committees, most likely by Rep. Mollohan, for his district since 1995. More than half of his earmarks have gone to the five nonprofits, most of which depend almost entirely on government money for funding. To run the organizations, Rep. Mollohan has recruited friends and former aides who then contribute to his political campaigns and family foundation. Businesses that are awarded contracts through these nonprofits also make campaign contributions

[…]In December 2005, Roll Call (12/08/2005) detailed how Rep. Mollohan has received campaign contributions from MZM, Inc. The company’s former owner, Mitchell Wade, was at the heart of the bribery scandal that led to the resignation of ex-Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-Calif.). Rep. Mollohan was quoted in the article as saying, “All I care about is supporting companies and [federal] programs that companies are doing in my Congressional district.”

Cynthia Mckinney:

According to sources on Capitol Hill, U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) punched a Capitol police officer on Wednesday afternoon after he mistakenly pursued her for failing to pass through a metal detector.

Members of Congress are not required to pass through metal detectors.

Sources say that the officer was at a position in the Longworth House Office Building, and neither recognized McKinney, nor saw her credentials as she went around the metal detector.

The officer called out, ?Ma?am, Ma?am,? and walked after her in an attempt to stop her. When he caught McKinney, he grabbed her by the arm.

Witnesses say McKinney pulled her arm away, and with her cell phone in hand, punched the officer in the chest.

John Conyers:

Two former aides to Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) have alleged that he repeatedly violated House ethics rules.

Deanna Maher, a former deputy chief of staff in Conyers?s Detroit office, and Sydney Rooks, a former legal counsel in the district office, provided evidence for the allegations by sharing numerous letters, memorandums and copies of e-mails, handwritten notes and expense reports with The Hill.

In letters sent separately by each woman to the House ethics committee, the FBI and the U.S. attorney?s office, they allege that Conyers demanded that aides work on several local and state campaigns and forced them to baby-sit and chauffeur his children. They also charge that some aides illegally used Conyers?s congressional offices to enrich themselves.

Frank Ballance:

On September 2, 2004, Ballance was indicted on federal charges including, money laundering, mail fraud, and conspiracy to commit mail fraud with his son, Garey Ballance, a state district judge in Warren County, North Carolina. Garey Ballance is also charged in the indictment with income tax evasion. The charges arose after allegations were made that the elder Ballance took $2.3 million in state funds he secured as a State Senator for the John A. Hyman Memorial Youth Foundation and used the cash for the enrichment of himself, his family, and his church.

On November 9, 2004, a plea agreement was reached under which Ballance pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering. In January, 2005, he was disbarred from the practice of law in the state of North Carolina. On October 12, 2005, he was sentenced to four years in prison, two years supervised release, and fined $10,000. He began serving his sentence at the medium-security federal prison in Butner, North Carolina on December 30, 2005. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, he is expected to be released from prison in June, 2009.

Jim Traficant:

James Anthony “Jim” Traficant, Jr. (born May 8, 1941) is a flamboyantly iconoclastic former Democratic Representative in the United States Congress from Ohio (from 1985 to 2002), when he was expelled after being convicted of taking bribes, filing false tax returns, racketeering, and forcing his aides to perform chores at his farm in Ohio and on his houseboat in Washington, DC (see [1]).

Charles Schumer:

Schumer, who has led campaigns against Wheaties price-gouging and exorbitant ATM fees, recently sponsored legislation to protect corporate consumer data. He’s also been pressuring legal publishers to block snoopers from accessing Social Security numbers online.

So imagine the glee of Republicans when they learned last month that two Schumer staffers at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee had hacked into the credit report of Maryland Republican Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, according to committee officials.

(Not to mention the fact that Schumer gave our war plans to the enemy prior to the Iraq war)

Gary Siplin:

Orlando state Sen. Gary Siplin, who left Miami seven years ago with a trail of bad debt and a history of close ties to county politicians, was charged this morning with fraudulently using his legislative staff to run his 2004 election campaign.

Sipin, 51, a Democrat who spent the 1990s promoting black professionals in Miami and serving as a bond lawyer for county financial deals, was charged with one felony and one misdemeanor for allegedly forcing three of his former Senate staffers to do campaign work.

And now Paddy Kennedy.

I guess it’s all in the family with these guys. Thankfully he was not near any body of water and didn’t have his girl with him.

My question is, how come it took 14 hours for this to reach the press? Isn’t this newsworthy, kinda like a hunting trip would be?

Ok, just asking.

Another interesting note to all this is why would he tell the officers that he was on his way to a vote at 3 in the morning?

Article 1, Section 6: The Senators and Representatives shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States. They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.

If this doesn’t raise the hairs on the back of your head then nothing will. Obvious manipulation of law enforcement so that the Congressmans crimes will be hidden.

Hell just last month he was involved in another accident where he was presumably sober but just couldn’t wait till all the little people in front of him turned:

Patches was behind the wheel of a 2003 Crown Vic – a gas guzzler, but then, like taxes, fuel conservation is something for the Little People to worry about, not one of the Beautiful People. The Ford is owned, by the way, by The Friends of Pat Kennedy, Inc. Must be nice.

So Patches is trying to turn off Turnpike Avenue into the CVS parking lot, and he?s in a hurry . . . if you know what I mean. Why should a Kennedy have to wait until the car with the right of way goes by in the other direction?

As one witness put it:

?A vehicle was in front of V#2 (the Patches mobile) making a left into CVS, and that V#2 turned directly behind the unidentified vehicle turning without hesitation.?

Didn?t the other driver know who he was?

The other motorist, a 46-year-old guy from Bristol, slammed his 2000 Nissan into Patches? Crown Vic. By Kennedy standards, it was a fender-bender. Not only did not a single blonde die, no one was even paralyzed, or raped. Of course, Patches? no doubt extremely urgent trip to the drugstore was delayed, which may be the cause of his almost indecipherable scribbling. Dammit, he needed some more . . . shampoo?

Also recall the airport incident a few years back:

The lawyer for Representative Patrick J. Kennedy said that a settlement had been reached with a security guard at Los Angeles International Airport who said Mr. Kennedy had shoved her during a confrontation about luggage two years ago. Terms were not disclosed. Mr. Kennedy had been rushing to catch a plane, and the guard, Della Patton, tried to stop him from putting an oversized bag through an X-ray machine. A security videotape showed Mr. Kennedy pushing Ms. Patton backward, jostling a metal detector archway.

As you can imagine this is creating some very funny jokes around the blogosphere, seeing that it involves a Kennedy. My favorite so far:

This is an obvious case of profiling. The cops saw a Kennedy & assumed he must be drunk.

He can deny all he wants with this lame excuse:

Rep. Patrick Kennedy crashed his car near the Capitol early Thursday, and a police official said he appeared intoxicated. Kennedy said he had taken sleep medication and a prescription anti-nausea drug that can cause drowsiness.

but the fact that these two Sgt’s conferred with the Capitol Police and then told their troopers to go away without doing a sobriety test stinks to high heaven.
