A true test of a nations resolve is how they react when things are not going well. When the Ambassador to a freely elected nation from Egypt is assassinated in Iraq what does Egypt do? They run like scared little girls:
Egypt will temporarily shut its diplomatic mission in Iraq and has recalled its staff to Cairo, an official said Thursday, after a militant group claimed to have killed Egypt’s top envoy in Baghdad.
The announcement came hours after President Hosni Mubarak condemned the killing of the country’s top envoy to Baghdad at the hands of Islamic militants.
Egypt also asked the U.N. Security Council on Thursday to urgently address the issue of protecting diplomats in Iraq following the killing of Ihab al-Sherif.
Egypt’s U.N. Ambassador Maged Abdelaziz said he met with Greece’s U.N. Ambassador Adamantios Vassilakis, the current council president, to request that the council try to find “ways and means to improve the life and protection of diplomatic missions … in Iraq.”
Speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, the official said the remaining staff in Baghdad ? six diplomats and six adminstrative staff ? were ordered to leave Baghdad on Friday.
Egyptian staff at the mission in Baghdad told The Associated Press they had not yet received any instructions from Cairo.
Mubarak labeled Ihab al-Sherif’s killers “terrorists” and insisted Egypt would continue to support Iraq.
All Egypt is doing is giving Al-Qaeda a victory, plain and simple. Plus, what the hell does he think he is doing by running to the UN to plead for security assistance. He has got to be joking, the UN couldn’t even protect the children in Bosnia, Iran, Palestine, and the Sudan but now they will protect their diplomats? Oh geez!
