Talk about spineless wimps. Karl Rove went on the attack yesterday against how coddling libs are to terrorists and how their actions and words put our soldiers at risk:
Karl Rove came to the heart of Manhattan last night to rhapsodize about the decline of liberalism in politics, saying Democrats responded weakly to Sept. 11 and had placed American troops in greater danger by criticizing their actions.
“Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers,” Mr. Rove, the senior political adviser to President Bush, said at a fund-raiser in Midtown for the Conservative Party of New York State.
Citing calls by progressive groups to respond carefully to the attacks, Mr. Rove said to the applause of several hundred audience members, “I don’t know about you, but moderation and restraint is not what I felt when I watched the twin towers crumble to the ground, a side of the Pentagon destroyed, and almost 3,000 of our fellow citizens perish in flames and rubble.” …
Mr. Rove also said American armed forces overseas were in more jeopardy as a result of remarks last week by Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, who compared American mistreatment of detainees to the acts of “Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime – Pol Pot or others.”
“Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year?” Mr. Rove asked. “Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.”
Could any truer words have been spoken. He is right on all accounts and the funny thing is how the Democrats are whining:
White House adviser Karl Rove should either apologize or resign for saying liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to “prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers,” Democrats said Thursday.
Adding to the rancor, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested that Republican charges that Democrats were undermining the war on terror with their criticism of administration policies amounted to an act of desperation.
…
Karl Rove should immediately and fully apologize for his remarks or he should resign,” Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in a statement. “I hope the president will join me in repudiating these remarks.”
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean called on Bush to “show some leadership and unequivocally repudiate Rove’s divisive and damaging political rhetoric.”
During a Senate hearing on Iraq in which Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and other military leaders testified, Sen.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., read Rove’s statement and urged them to reject the remarks.“I would hope that you and other members of the administration would immediately repudiate such an insulting comment from a high-ranking official in the president’s inner circle,” Clinton said.
Earlier in the day, Sen. Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y., said New York has had unity since Sept. 11. “To inject politics into this and to defame a large number of people” is outrageous, he said. “It’s not what New York and America is all about.”
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (news, bio, voting record), D-N.J., said nearly 3,000 Americans died on Sept. 11 and “we should not dishonor their memory by using that tragic day for political trash talk.”
Ok, this is from Harry Reid who called Bush a loser and a liar. He later said he would take back the loser part only. Howard Dean recently said “have never made an honest living in their lives” and called the GOP “pretty much a white, Christian party.” Nancy Pelosi called Bush “incompetent”.
So you have a bunch of whiners who can dish out the insults but when the Republicans dish it back, they go crying to their mommies.
This is from the party that wants to give these terrorists criminal trials WHILE the war is still going on. That is unheard of. To think we would have put German soldiers on trial while the war was still raging, it’s ludicrous.
This is from the party where its leadership compared our soldiers to Hitler’s, Pol Pot, and Soviet Gulag soldiers.
The Captain got it right:
Small wonder that the American electorate has shut Democrats out of power during this epic period of national security crises. Who would trust these wimps to defend themselves, let alone anyone else?
Recall that shortly after 9/11 poll’s showed 85% of Americans believed there would be another attack. Bush sent the fight to the terrorists where we have won every battle and sure enough, the terrorists are all over there fighting….not here. Liberals havn’t been in control of the Government since 9/11 and there hasn’t been any attack on US soil. Wonder why that is?
The lib’s can’t be trusted in defending this nation, plain and simple. Let them whine and cry all they want….Rove was spot on.

UPDATE – The Captain has updated with some details about why Karl Rove said:
“I don’t know about you, but moderation and restraint is not what I felt when I watched the twin towers crumble to the ground, a side of the Pentagon destroyed, and almost 3,000 of our fellow citizens perish in flames and rubble.”
Perhaps it had to do with Moveon.org petition drive only days after 9/11:
Petition 1: “We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of the United States of America and of countries around the world, appeal to the President of The United States, George W. Bush; to the NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson; to the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi; and to all leaders internationally to use moderation and restraint in responding to the recent terrorist attacks against the United States. We implore the powers that be to use, wherever possible, international judicial institutions and international human rights law to bring to justice those responsible for the attacks, rather than the instruments of war, violence or destruction.”
It could also have been these quotes:Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), 10/1/01, Roll Call: “I truly believe if we had a Department of Peace, we could have seen [9/11] coming.”
Al Sharpton, 12/1/02, New York Times, on the 9/11 attacks: “America is beginning to reap what it has sown.”Rep. Marcy Kaptur, 3/1/2003, Toledo Blade: “One could say that Osama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped cast off the British crown.”
Wow, a real bunch of winners we have on the left side of the aisle.
UPDATE II – Scott McClellan just gave a press briefing where he was asked about Karl’s comments:
Q He said the Democrats wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. That’s not injecting politics into the tragedy of September 11th?
MR. McCLELLAN: I think it’s talking about the different philosophies for winning the war on terrorism. The President recognizes that the way to win the war on terrorism is to take the fight to the enemy, to stay on the offensive, and to work to spread freedom and democracy to defend the ideology of hatred that they espouse, and the ideology of tyranny and oppression.
Q So will the President ask Karl Rove to apologize?
MR. McCLELLAN: Of course not, Jessica. This is simply talking about different philosophies and different approaches. And I think you have to look at it in that context. If people want to try to engage in personal attacks instead of defending their philosophy, that’s their business. But it’s important to point out the different approaches when it comes to winning the war on terrorism. And that’s all he was doing.
Q So you’re suggesting that Rove’s approach to discussing the philosophy that Democrats — is to say that they want to prepare indictments and seek counseling. That’s their philosophy, is that what you were saying?
MR. McCLELLAN: I think the comments were saying — the conservative approach and the liberal approach is what he was talking about.
Q He was saying that that’s the comparison in their philosophies?
MR. McCLELLAN: He was speaking to a political organization. There are many who have looked at the war on terrorism and said it is a law enforcement matter, that we should prosecute people. The President recognizes that it is a war and that we must stay on the offensive, we must take the fight to the enemy. The best way to defeat the enemy is to fight them abroad and bring them to justice before they can carry out their attacks here at home.
So will the President ask Karl Rove to apologize? Of course not.
You bet your sweet ass Karl wont be apologizing….if he does then the Republicans need to go home, they don’t deserve to lead anymore. He only speaks the truth.
