President Obama on a Balanced Budget Amendment: “We don’t need a constitutional amendment to do that. What we need to do is do our jobs.”
Senate Leader Harry Reid: “I think this piece of legislation [Cap, Cut and Balance] is about as weak and senseless as anything that has ever come on this Senate floor, and I’m not going to waste the Senate’s time day after day on this piece of legislation which I think is anathema to what our country is all about. I feel confident that this legislation will be disposed of one way or the other. The American people should understand that this is a bad piece of legislation, perhaps some of the worst legislation in the history of this country.” In case you don’t get this, he is telling all of the Democrat Senators to shelve Cut, Cap and Balance without giving it a hearing. Several days ago Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) coughed up a furball. He asserted that Republicans who sought a Balanced Budget Amendment were now part of a “cult.”
Senate Democrats attacked the “Cut, Cap and Balance” measure on Wednesday, calling the House-passed bill “devoid of substance” and “dead on arrival” in the Senate, where it will receive a vote later this week.
Finally, Democrats stopped with the crazy talk and the violent rhetoric. Just kidding.
Democrat Rep Jim Moran: “It [Republican victories in November] happened … for the same reason the Civil War happened in the United States. Southern states, particularly the slaveholding states, didn’t want to see a president who was opposed to slavery. In this case a lot of people in this country, it’s my belief, don’t want to be governed by an African-American, particularly one who is inclusive, who is liberal, who wants to spend money on everyone and who wants to reach out to include everyone in our society.
