This is what amnesty gets you

This is gratitude

After Manzano finished his race and secured his medal, he did what athletes typically do at the Olympics. He held up his country’s flag — the Stars and Stripes.

The 27-year-old was born in Mexico, but the United States is his country now. His father migrated here illegally from the city of Dolores Hidalgo. Manzano was brought here when he was 4. Like most immigrants, they came in search of greater opportunity. And they found it — for themselves, and their children.

That little boy eventually became a U.S. citizen. And then, after a lot of hard work and thousands of hours of training, he got the chance to represent his country and compete in the Olympics. And, to put the cherry on the sundae, he actually wins a silver medal. The last time an American won a medal of any kind in the 1500 meters was 44 years ago.

You can’t help but be proud of Manzano and the country that allowed him the opportunity to fulfill his potential.

So why did Manzano carry two flags with him on his victory lap? As the world looked on, he held up both the U.S. flag and the Mexican flag. Not a good look. And not a good idea.

Manzano obviously does not consider himself to be an American. Neither my father nor my mother would ever have done this. My father was a WWII combat vet and never considered himself anything other than American.

Send them back. Send them all back.

@Brian Miller:

Is the Olympic medal winner here who this article is about, the one you keep crying about hurting your poor tender self, an illegal?

He was when he broke in.

@drjohn:

He was when he broke in.

You might want to actually read and learn some background information about Manzano before you go off half-cocked. If you had done that you would have learned that he came here legally when he was four.

Not that any of that matters when you’re not even attempting to achieve checkout-line journalistic standards.

@Aye:

On Tuesday, Mexican-born American runner Leo Manzano won a silver medal in the men’s 1,500-meter final, running the fastest time ever by a U.S. athlete at the Games. Manzano, 27, entered the U.S. at the age of 4 without papers, according to LetsRun. He didn’t gain legal residency until 10 years later.

@drjohn:

Manzano came to the US at the age of 4. His family history involves illegal immigration to the US. His father was working without authorization in the US and in 1987 was able to gain permanent residency (presumably via the “amnesty” that was part of President Reagan’s immigration reforms). After gaining a green card, Leo’s father sent for the family.

Manzano’s back story also is inspiring. He moved legally to the U.S. with his family when he was 4, and said his wish was that his achievement might inspire other Mexican-American and Hispanic kids to take up the sport.

“You can come from nothing and become something,” Manzano said.

drjohnny-cake, turns his rage on children now. Why don’t you get your lazy non-journalistic butt out there and earn your own Olympic medal for the US, and quit your racist pasty belly aching. What a loser. No wonder he hates this guy; a winner, and with brown skin. Suck it up.

What Amnesty looks like-
VICTORY !!!!!

You put on the uniform which has the letters USA, it’s your team, it’s your country. If you want to display the flag of another country, put on their uniform. Mexico didn’t do squat for Manzano.

@Brian Miller:

What Amnesty looks like-
VICTORY !!!!!

For illegals, yes. And it also means an unending stream of illegals who will be rewarded for stealing into this country. Rewarding those who break the law is not something I find admirable.

@drjohn: “drjohn says: 57 You put on the uniform which has the letters USA, it’s your team, it’s your country. If you want to display the flag of another country, put on their uniform. Mexico didn’t do squat for Manzano. ” says a very very little fat man.

“The United States is my home and I’m very proud to represent it. I love this country and wouldn’t change it for anything, but my roots are Mexican and I also feel proud to be able to carry the two flags…. As an athlete, for now I want to keep running and training hard and, if God wills it, to be in the next Games (2016 in Rio de Janeiro), while off the track I want to keep helping children through my foundation,” Manzano said.

drcloggedjohn, you need to go out and win some Olympic medals for the US and show us all how it is done……or just keep belly aching about the brown people who scare you.

VICTORY !!!!!!!! USA USA USA

and you hate it.

I don’t often agree with Ruben Navarrette Jr., but his take on this falls pretty much in line with how I feel. When you join the Olympic team, you pick a side. The name is clearly printed on your uniform. Miguel Ponce, a soccer player born in Sacramento holds dual citizenship and played on the gold medal Mexican team. A team I was cheering rather wildly for, since my wife and her family are from Mexico.
On most other occasions, I have no problem with people holding both flags. But in the Olympics you have a choice. And I know De La Hoya held up both flags in the ’92 Barcelona games, he shouldn’t have done it either.
I think it’s fine to have pride in your ancestry. You don’t see Cuban immigrants holding a Cuban flag, or Irish, Italian, or even Canadian immigrants waving their former country’s flag at the Olympics.
Sending him back to Mexico is a bit extreme. I just think he should poor judgement. From what I understand, he took quite a hit on his twitter feed.

I remember when Joe DiMaggio raised the Italian flag after a World Series win….oh…wait!

@Kulkat: I remember when Joe DiMaggio raised the Italian flag after a World Series win….oh…wait!

Joe was born in California, so most of you would consider him an illegal also.

@Aqua:

And Brian accuses Ruben Naverrette, Jr. of being a racist who hates brown people in 3………….2…………

And Aye seems to think that being in a St. Patrick’s Day parade or riding on a bus is equal to representing the U.S.A. in the Olympics.

But I understand that it according to the real hate mongers (who throughly dislike their own nation) it is fine for an Olympic Gold Medalist to wave the flag of the nation that oppressed his family while the left wing news media ridicules (a New York Times sportwriter, in particular) Lolo Jones for her Christianity.

Navarrette (who tends to be an open border proponent) is right; those Olympians had a choice. They chose to accept a position on a team to represent the U.S.A. If Manzano wanted to represent Mexico, he should have tried to get on their team. It’s not like Mexico is breaking any records gaining gold medals. What Manzano did was represent were all the illegals who marched in cities like Los Angeles demanding rights they are not entitled to and would not even be entitled to in their native land, Mexico. If you are going to sneak into a nation illegally, and then be given the right to stay there, is showing some respect for that nation just too much to ask?

@retire05:” But I understand that it according to the real hate mongers (who throughly dislike their own nation)”.

Yep, haters gotta hate…..

….is showing some respect for that nations Olympic winners just too much to ask?

@retire05:

And Aye seems to think that being in a St. Patrick’s Day parade or riding on a bus is equal to representing the U.S.A. in the Olympics.

Actually, the waving of an Irish flag or an Italian flag at a parade or anyplace else is, indeed, quite comparable with what Manzano, and de la Hoya before him, did. It’s an expression of pride in heritage in each of those instances. An expression of pride in heritage which reaches back to at least 1908 in America and likely much earlier.

Help me understand this now… on one hand you’re growling and snarling about the NYT supposedly criticizing Lolo Jones for her religion and the free expression thereof while, on the other hand, you’re growling and snarling about Manzano engaging in the free expression of pride in his heritage. Is that right?

Man oh man… I sure do love the scent of richly toasted hypocrisy on a sunny Tuesday afternoon.

If you are going to sneak into a nation illegally, and then be given the right to stay there, is showing some respect for that nation just too much to ask?

First of all, there’s not one iota of evidence which shows that Manzano “sneak[ed] into” this nation illegally. Four year old children don’t generally sneak into another country so that argument falls apart rather hastily. Nor is there any evidence that the four year old Manzano was brought into the country illegally by his family.

Conversely, it actually appears that Manzano’s father attained legal status under Simpson-Mazzoli. That legislation contained extensive family reunification provisions under which little Leo most likely entered the country in a legal fashion, your tales of illicit border crossing notwithstanding.

So, as much as you and the others here wish to create something out of nothing, your arguments don’t withstand even the slightest bit of scrutiny.

Congratulations on that.

@Aye:

An asshole doesn’t smell any better on Tuesday than it does on Monday, Aye.

Your smell did not improve overnight.

Instead of trying to get your jollies by slamming me, why don’t you just buy a bar of Ivory?

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

Shows why we should NEVER believe lying Liberals ever again, Ted Kennedy and Tip Oneil were scumbags who are rotting in whatever hell they believed in. They lied to Regan and convinced him to give in just once and the moment he did they came back for more and more and never stopped till they dropped dead.

@Aqua: Sending him back to Mexico is a bit extreme.

Ya think? LOL

Petty whining, and a very ugly premise with this so called “story”. Doesn’t take much to rile some up these days.

@retire05:

Intellectually exhausted already, eh?

That’s not surprising.

Great article! I’m glad we can put this “brown man” in his place. How dare he show any sort of appreciation for his heritage. The only Americans that are allowed to do that are southerners who want to fly the confederate flag to show appreciation for their southern heritage. Geesh…

@Ron H.: Not at the Olympics they don’t, and that would be every bit as wrong.

@drjohn: When is it right to fly the traitor flag of the Confeduncery? When is the right time to fly that trator flag over a UNITED STATES government building, say, a state capital? The 4th of July? Lincoln’s birthday? April Fools day?

This Olympic medal winner has real pride, and that really pisses off the racist. Good for him.

@Brian Miller: Never said it would. You said it, put those words in my mouth and then slam me for them. The usual liberal crap.

“drjohn says: 73
H.: Not at the Olympics they don’t, and that would be every bit as wrong.”

When would it be right? Why the qualification?
Never said you flew the stars and bars, just that you hate this Olympian because of what’s in you.

@Brian Miller:

There you go again; calling anyone who disagrees with you, and the actions of Manzano, “racists.” Do you think Naverrette is also a racist?

As to the Confederacy, I suggest you read the first paragraphg of the Declaration of Independence. Learn something before you shoot off your mouth.

During the 2008 and 2010 elections localities were overwhelmed by so many people insisting on voting despite not being from that precinct, or registered, or carrying ID.
This time around the flooding of millions of NEW voter registration forms is going to again overwhelm each precinct.
There is a Cloward/Pivin aspect to this.
If there are so many new forms turned in, some perfectly legal, others of dead people, animals and illegals, the workers will be forced to accept all ballots only to winnow through them AFTER the election is over.
Overwhelming governmental systems so that they fail is key to the Cloward/Pivin strategy.
In Mass., Elizabeth Warren’s daughter, Amelia Warren Tyagi, of a nonprofit group named “Demos” has forced the state to spend more than $275,000 to send voter registration letters to nearly 500,000 people on welfare.

In AZ., a portion of Proposition 200, was partially struck down in April by a federal appeals court that said the state can’t require proof of citizenship for people who use a federal form to register to vote.
But the court said Arizona can continue to require proof of citizenship for those who register using a state form and the state can still require voters to show ID at the polls.
The problem?
You cannot tell the difference between the two forms!

In VA., MoveOn.org. has mailed thousands of voter registration forms to Virginians.
The forms are partially filled out!
Follow-up phone calls insist these persons fill out and mail in their forms!
Dead people’s family members are being harassed.
People who have moved to new precincts family are being HARASSED.
The VA. Board of Elections wants to review all of these forms but MoveOn.org’s plan is to overwhelm them.

Judy Hoye and her husband had many questions about the registration materials they received, such as how the VPC obtained their address and daughter’s name — which was pre-printed on the form — and how they mistakenly concluded that she still lived with them.
“She’s been voting for years. Don’t you know that she’s registered?” Hoye said she asked the caller at one point.
Hoye said she grew aggravated by the caller’s inability to supply answers. The caller’s response “was like, ‘I just work here, I’m a volunteer and I don’t know where this stuff comes from,’ ” Hoye said.
Hoye said the caller, who was polite but became flustered, finally divulged she was working for MoveOn.org after repeated questioning.

50 states.
50 stories like these.
Fraud is going to be rampant this election.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we don’t know who won for a few days at least.

Nan G.
is in it what elected OBAMA?
I have read so, not only once,
so they use the same formula again.
doesn’t make a winner feel shame to know he was propelled to power by fraud, and they know it for sure,
because he allowed it to continue,
