Racism and George Zimmerman

Whatever the ultimate outcome of the case against George Zimmerman for his shooting of Trayvon Martin, what has happened already is enough to turn the stomach of anyone who believes in either truth or justice.

An amazing proportion of the media has given us a painful demonstration of the thinking — and lack of thinking — that prevailed back in the days of the old Jim Crow South, where complexion counted more than facts in determining how people were treated.

One of the first things presented in the media was a transcript of a conversation between George Zimmerman and a police dispatcher. The last line in most of the transcripts shown on TV was that of the police dispatcher telling Zimmerman not to continue following Trayvon Martin.

That became the basis of many media criticisms of Zimmerman for continuing to follow him. Only later did I see a transcript of that conversation on the Sean Hannity program that included Zimmerman’s reply to the police dispatcher: “Okay.”

That reply removed the only basis for assuming that Zimmerman did in fact continue to follow Trayvon Martin. At this point, neither I nor the people who assumed that he continued to follow the teenager have any basis in fact for believing that he did or didn’t.

Why was that reply edited out by so many in the media? Because too many people in the media see their role as filtering and slanting the news to fit their own vision of the world. The issue is not one of being “fair” to “both sides” but, more fundamentally, of being honest with their audience.

NBC News carried the editing even further, removing one of the police dispatcher’s questions, to which Zimmerman was responding, in order to feed the vision of Zimmerman as a racist.

In the same vein were the repeated references to Zimmerman as a “white Hispanic.” Zimmerman is half-white. So is Barack Obama. But does anyone refer to Obama as a “white African”?

All these verbal games grow out of the notion that complexion tells you who is to be blamed and who is not. It is a dangerous game because race is no game. If the tragic history of the old Jim Crow South in this country is not enough to show that, the history of racial and ethnic tragedies is written in blood in countries around the world. Millions have lost their lives because they looked different, talked differently, or belonged to a different religion.

    But, wait, there’s more… the left wants to deem it racist to call an Illegal Alien “Illegal”

    Now, ‘somehow’ it’s “dehumanizing” [but, only to the Left now...] to say the TRUTH and call it like it is…

    http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/oreilly/index.html under the title: [The left in America is getting nervous] he also interviewed some girl from move on progs about this, but, i couldn’t find the interview – I wish I could – it was excellent…

    I actually feel for both these families…. and for whatever reason the MSM in their laziness and piss poor reporting, will rely on the likes of hate mongers to sensationalize a tragic killing which could very well have been an accident – Journalist’s ‘the other’ useful idiots….

    You don’t believe SOME parts of the right-wing are talking about THIS MATTER as a PRINCIPLE ISSUE?

    I bet you are correct.
    Some parts are, others are not.
    Some parts look at it as a side issue, others as not an issue.

    I wonder if this isn’t a more important issue than whatever the Zimmerman case is about.
    Seems we catch the Leftist media making issues where there are none, just to help the president and his ”narrative.”
    As facts came out, 1st that George Zimmerman was NOT a white or a Jew, later that he was ”part-black,” all of a sudden the whole story fell off the radar.
    My questions are: Is Obama (who also happens to be ”part-black) so all-in on starting and fomenting a race war this year that he will ”use” some other tragedy to whip one up?
    Or will he let the fact that his bad call (in using the Zimmerman case) allowed him to slip free of a race war and choose not create another phony outrage before the election?

    @Richard Wheeler: Nan Pls explain how a “race war” would benefit Obama’s chance of re-election.

    Obama will stir up the race issue if it means guilting or scaring white voters to keep him in the White House, he has used white guilt before.
    Many white voters bought the Obama myth that his election would sooth race issues in America.

    Obama is willing to see this country torn apart by race because he sees it as a viable political tool.
    People are already claiming that Obama MUST be re-elected OR race riots will break out.

    If you’ve been paying any attention to Obama’s campaign thus far you have seen his ”us VS them” divisiveness play out over and over.
    His ”rich 1%ers VS the rest of us.”
    His corporate greed VS whoever doesn’t own stocks.
    His welfare crowd, now at 47% of Americans VS those evil taxpayers who need to pay more.
    Women, sexual orientation, and yes, color.

    The political tactics which opei, the wipe house and the dnc is using is no different from the rape in the Congo. Rape is a means of warfare-today it is political posturing. Expect to be raped….in many forms form the democrats.

    Nan I read your oft repeated talking points. To suggest a race war would benefit Obama among White voters is quite frankly ridiculous.
    To win Obama must have a coalition of Black (9o%+),Latino(65%}, and White(40%+) This election will be close and most likely decided in Fla. and Ohio. Romney wins both and he’s POTUS.

    @Richard Wheeler:
    And I will quote Obama from TODAY when he AGAIN made divisive comments that could foment violence:
    OBAMA:
    “I mean, if you ask them, what’s their big economic plan in addition to tax cuts for rich folks, it’s dismantling your unions. After all you’ve done to build and protect the middle class, they make the argument you’re responsible for the problems facing the middle class.”
    “Republicans in Congress would rather put fewer of you [unionized workers] to work rebuilding America than ask millionaires and billionaires to live without massive new tax cuts on top of the ones they’ve already gotten.”

    Today is Monday.
    Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 1st has long been recognized by labor unions as International Workers’ Day.
    It is usually celebrated by left-wing activists, socialists and communists as a day to protest for workers rights.
    This year, the Occupy movement has declared a general strike in solidarity with union workers to protest economic inequality.

    “Don’t go to work or school on Tuesday!” proclaims the Occupy Wall Street website, “For the first time, workers, students, immigrants, and the unemployed from over 125 U.S. cities will stand together for economic justice.” http://occupywallst.org/article/may-day/

    Today Obama stood with the Occupiers.
    If that isn’t class warfare I don’t know what is.

    BTW, fewer than 12% of all employed people in the USA are in unions of any kind.
    http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/union2.pdf
    That’s only 14.8 million workers!
    And get this:
    1/2 of them, 7.6 million union workers work for the government!

    Obama doesn’t give a damn about non-union workers.
    But those are the majority of workers.
    That’s us.

  9. I think the LATINOS WILL LOOK ON CONSERVATIVES SIDES THIS TIME,, AND LIKE WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS,
    AND THEY WILL BECOME QUITE SUSPICIOUS OF THE ONE WHO WANT TO INCITE RIOTS
    TO CONDEM , ZIMMERMAN WHICH HAPPEN TO BE ONE OF THEM, MISTREATED BY THE BLACK ELECTED AND OTHER ORGANISATION which ONLY WILL BE HAPPY FOR A CONVICTION, INSTEAD OF A INNOCENT SAVING
    HIS LIFE IN A MOMENT.
    I WOULD THINK THE LATINOS will review where best and secure AMERICA SHOULD LEAN ON,
    AFTER THIS BEATING ON WHITES AS 6 TO 20 TO ONE WHITE, IT HAS HAPPEN CLOSE TO ELECTION AND THEREFOR IT IS CONNECTED AND LEFT A PRINT ON THE MIND OF LATINOS AS WELL
    AS OUR MINDS, SO OBAMA WON’T BE SO SURE TO HAVE THE LATINOS TAKING HI BULS…THIS TIME

    The New York Daily News is reporting this:

    Worries over the safety of witnesses could delay the trial against Trayvon Martin’s killer.
    George Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, said on his website Sunday he’ll delay asking prosecutors for evidence in the case until a judge rules to protect the witnesses.
    The witnesses’ names would normally be made public during the evidence turnover, but O’Mara wants to protect their identities.

    ….
    ….

    I would hope that eyewitnesses’ lives would be safe from Trayvon’s supporters, but apparently there are so many threats coming from those supporters of Trayvon that hoping is not enough.
    I wonder if the prosecutor and, for that matter Trayvon’s parents’ lawyer will agree?

    Another incident, this time the police and media have tried to cover it up.
    Will that covering up prevent a race war?

    Look for this:
    >>>>>”(do it for trayvon martin)”<<<<<

    Two weeks have passed since reporters Dave Forster and Marjon Rostami – friends to me and many others at the newspaper – were attacked on a Saturday night as they drove home from a show at the Attucks Theatre. They had stopped at a red light, in a crowd of at least 100 young people walking on the sidewalk. Rostami locked her car door. Someone threw a rock at her window. Forster got out to confront the rock-thrower, and that’s when the beating began.

    Forster and Rostami’s story has not, until today, appeared in this paper.

    The responding officer coded the incident as a simple assault, despite their assertions that at least 30 people had participated in the attack.
    A reporter making routine checks of police reports would see “simple assault” and, if the names were unfamiliar, would be unlikely to write about it.
    In this case, editors hesitated to assign a story about their own employees.
    Would it seem like the paper treated its employees differently from other crime victims?

    More questions loomed.

    Forster and Rostami wondered if the officer who answered their call treated all crime victims the same way. When Rostami, who admits she was hysterical, tried to describe what had happened, she says the officer told her to shut up and get in the car.
    Both said the officer did not record any names of witnesses who stopped to help.
    Rostami said the officer told them the attackers were “probably juveniles anyway.
    What are we going to do?
    Find their parents and tell them?”

    The officer pointed to public housing in the area and said large groups of teenagers look for trouble on the weekends. “It’s what they do,” he told Forster.

    Could that be true? Could violent mobs of teens be so commonplace in Norfolk that police and victims have no recourse?

    Police spokesman Chris Amos said officers often respond to reports of crowds fighting; sirens are usually enough to disperse the group.

    The next day, Forster searched Twitter for mention of the attack.

    One post chilled him.

    “I feel for the white man who got beat up at the light,” wrote one person.

    “I don’t,” wrote another, indicating laughter. “(do it for trayvon martin)”

    Only one news outlet has this story: the paper where the two victims work!

    @Richard Wheeler:
    To be specific, to this:

    To win Obama must have a coalition of Black (9o%+),Latino(65%}, and White(40%+) This election will be close and most likely decided in Fla. and Ohio. Romney wins both and he’s POTUS.

    1st, it is more like 96% of all black voters went to Obama
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Obama took Trayvon’s side before many facts were in.
    To his credit, once some facts became known, (like that Zimmerman was NOT white OR Jewish) Obama shut up.
    The Obama-compliant media willfully used a several-years-old photo of a younger Trayvon….still do, too.
    BUT what about that close vote?
    FLA was won a few years ago by only 537 votes!
    The phony narrative about Trayvon has certainly done its job of whipping up the black electorate.
    Now, can they stay whipped up long enough to turn the election with excellent turn-out?
    That remains to be seen.
    When you study news reporting and news audiences, you learn something interesting.
    Blacks don’t really follow politics.
    BUT 80% of all US blacks are following the Trayvon case…..
    http://www.gallup.com/poll/153776/blacks-nonblacks-hold-sharply-different-views-martin-case.aspx
    Since white turn-out is also important, can it be twisted by white-guilt again or by not wanting to change horse in mid(economic)stream, into more votes for Obama?
    Will the Trayvon case lead to higher white turn-out?
    Into more or fewer whites proportionately voting Obama?
    That’s his real gamble.
    I’m so sorry for FORSTER AND ROSTAMI FOR HAVING BEEN ATTACK BY A MOB, AGAIN ANOTHER ATTACK BECAUSE OF THE BLACK LEADERS ELECTED I hope they are going to be okay, and
    if the young blacks do that, it is criminal as well as adult crimes,
    it’s seem to be escalating as we are counting the assaults,
    they will be surprise to see it happen to them, their names will be pickt up
    and they might get the same treatment by one who is patiently watching them,
    they should not feel so secure within their crowd, because that’s exactly where it will be coming
    to all of them in one shot. they cannot feel that they will get away with it, and try again and again.
    if the POLICE CANNOT PROTECT THE PEOPLE, THEN THE PEOPLE WILL PROTECT THEIR OWN WHITE PEOPLE.
    Nan there are PEACEFUL SMART BLACKS FAMILY which will not vote for OBAMA,
    I’m sure because OBAMA DID NOT USE HIS POSITION TO DEMOTE ANY OF THOSE ATTACKS, HE HAD THE POWER TO TURNED THE HOT HEADS AROUNDTO PROTECT ALL AMERICANS, THEREFOR HE WILL LOOSE THE GOOD PEOPLE AMERICANS NO MATTER THEIR COLOR,
    BECAUSE THEY ARE FACE WITH THE FAILURE FROM THE PRESIDENT TO STAND AGAINST THE CRIMINAL ATTACKS FROM THE YOUTH GATHERING IN A MOB TO HURT OTHER AMERICAN, THIS IS THE PROOF OF A FAIL PRESIDENT
    WHO CANNOT CONTAIN THESE CRIMES IN AMERICA,
    WHERE HE IS THERE TO PROTECT ALL AMERICAN,
    HE FAIL IN A GRAND WAY.
