Oh My: Park Rangers Ordered to “Make Life Difficult” for Citizens; “It’s Disgusting,” Says One Ranger

Loading

Ace:

Shutdown Theater is a nasty little production, aimed at angering and upsetting the audience.

The scoop is at the Washington Times.

The Park Service appears to be closing streets on mere whim and caprice. The rangers even closed the parking lot at Mount Vernon, where the plantation home of George Washington is a favorite tourist destination. That was after they barred the new World War II Memorial on the Mall to veterans of World War II. But the government does not own Mount Vernon; it is privately owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. The ladies bought it years ago to preserve it as a national memorial. The feds closed access to the parking lots this week, even though the lots are jointly owned with the Mount Vernon ladies. The rangers are from the government, and they’re only here to help.“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

I have spent the last hour attacking the media for allowing little Reason to scoop them on Chad Henderson. It’s not that they couldn’t have gotten this story; it’s that they didn’t want to.

Here again, People with knowledge of the situation are willing to talk to the media. They are in fact willing to dish dirt on what’s really going on.

But the media does not pursue such obvious leads because they’re afraid they’ll wind up with a Story they’ll have to report.

Think about that: They won’t ask questions, because they fear it will result in a scoop and a big story.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and local businesses wants the iconic park, the Grand Canyon, reopened and has offered to pay for it with state money, but her proposal was rejected Thursday by a park official who said that as long as the federal government remains shut down, such a plan isn’t an option.
The economic impact in the gateway communities, all of the related businesses, the bus tours, hiking companies, the jeep tours, all of those associated functions are suffering economically.
~~~~~~
Obama hates vacationers who are not him and his buddies.
Obama hates small businesses as well.
His own housekeepers lost 15 of their 90 members to furlough.
Gee, I hope they can keep up with Obama, wifey, two teenage girls and MIL with ONLY 75 full-time people….not counting the three cooks.
I believe this is major overreach and will cost the liberals in the end. It is likely that Jimmy Carter will be considered a much more effective president than Obama when history has the opportunity to comment.
An effective administration would strive to accommodate as many of the people they could. There also would be a great spin. “We know there is a government shut down, but the President wants to make sure that as many of the US citizens as possible are not inconvenienced. He can not control the House, but supports the people when ever he can!” This is a much better way to point the finger at the house. Only a real leader would use this method.
we can feel the revenge, we can feel the hate all from OBAMA THE PUNISHER OF THE PEOPLE,
THE MOST HATEFUL PRESIDENT EVER,
HE EVEN HATE HIS OWN COLOR,
I propose that this may call for civil disobedience organized on a grand scale. Along the lines of the “Occupy” movement. What could park rangers do if millions of Americans decided to organize peaceful “Flash mob” visits to the Federal parks that belong to the people? If the recreational protest groups are prepared for travel, but don’t know the “where” until the flash message comes, it would be difficult for the Feds to pre-prepare for a peaceful march past the barricades of the chosen national resource.
They can even insist on paying the normal fees, and acting just as respectful of these places as the TEA Party protests have been. This would be a huge blow to our self-presumed Emperor.
Shutdown Impacts Chapel Services
By John Schlageter
If the government shutdown continues through the weekend, there will be no Catholic priest to celebrate Mass this Sunday in the chapels at some U.S. military installations where non-active-duty priests serve as government contractors.
Military personnel enjoy, like all Americans, the First Amendment guarantee of the “Free Exercise” of their particular religious faith. But because military personnel are considered a “captive audience,” the laws of our country require the government to provide access to that faith. This is why we have a military chaplaincy. This all becomes very clear when one thinks of a military family stationed in Bahrain or Japan. They cannot walk down the street to the local synagogue, church, mosque, etc.
There is a chronic shortage of active duty Catholic chaplains. While roughly 25% of the military is Catholic, Catholic priests make up only about 8% of the chaplain corps. That means approximately 275,000 men and women in uniform, and their families, are served by only 234 active-duty priests. The temporary solution to this shortage is to provide GS and contract priests. These men are employed by the government to ensure that a priest is available when an active duty Catholic Chaplain is not present. With the government shutdown, many GS and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer. During the shutdown, it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so.
What you are seeing, boys and girls, is a pettiness unprecedented in the history of the Office of the President. You will notice that the article does not mention any reduction in services for Protestants or Muslims, only Catholics. The fact that these “contract” priests will NOT even be allowed to volunteer their ministry services shows how cheap and petty this president is.
First he came after the Catholics, but I said nothing because I was not Catholic. And so the tale goes.
@Nan G: She should send in the National Guard and arrest the Feds.
Jim
GOOD IDEA,
the STATES should have their own MILITIA TO DEAL
WITH THE REVENGE FITS OF OBAMA,
EVERY TIME HE PICK ON THE WARRIORS,
AND THE GOOD TEA PARTY,
AND THE PEACEFULL
AMERICANS
As noted many times before, the Washington Times is a propaganda rag heavily subsidized by the Unification Church. Were it not for the billions spent propping it up, it would have folded years ago. The scoops they’re serving up are often total manure.
There’s no credible source for the claim that any park ranger said he’d been ordered to “make life difficult” for anyone. You won’t be able to trace it back any further than the propaganda rag it initially appeared in.
@Greg:
Greggie, just like clockwork, when you can’t disprove a claim that makes the Obamanation look bad, you go after the messenger.
Odd, I never read where you went after the New York Times, currently being financed by Carlos Slim, the wealthiest man in the world with a 2013 wealth of $73 BILLION (some say Bill Gates is richer), a wealth he has increased by the provision of Obamaphones in the last four years, or ever read where you were upset with Pinch Schultzberger, a professed Fabian Socialist.
It seems you have no problem with the wealthy that support progressive/liberal/left wing causes. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.
@Greg: I’ll just point out the Chad post, Greg.
Here’s what happens when real diggers feel like they are getting a media-fed lie.
They go digging until they find out the truth.
There have been numerous Obamaites mascarading as non-partisans.
Each one was uncovered by persistent diggers.
You merely aver that this quote is not what it seems.
Go.
Dig.
Prove it.
Or, at the very least, link to diggers on your side who have done the work and proved your point is true.
Otherwise you are merely doing guilt-by-association…..So, the Times is buoyed up by a religious group.
I remember going to the supermarket Alpha-Beta not realizing it was owned by LDS.
The food was food.
The facts are facts.
Nice story out of the Vietnam Memorial:
Friday, Oct. 4th.
A group of Vietnam veterans found a barricade blocking the way to their memorial Friday. News4′s Mark Segraves said two U.S. Park Service Rangers manning the gate asked that the group respect the government’s shutdown but moved aside.
Segraves described the exchange as pleasant and respectful.
The veterans then moved the barricade and walked down to the wall to pay their respects. A flood of tourists followed even though the memorial is closed to the general public.
“The consensus among the group of Vietnam veterans was we’re going to go anyway. We’ll go through the barricade,” North Carolina resident Reid Mendenhall said.
No time frame as to how much time elapsed but later U.S. Park Police arrive to the scene, asked everyone to leave and put the barricade back into place.
I’m just guessing that the whole day went by before those barrycades were replaced late in the afternoon.
@Greg:
As noted many times before… often total manure. There’s no credible source…
“Kettle – black.” As has been noted many times before, you Greg are often full of manure and you have rarely been a credible source.
Unfortunately for you and the Washington Times is not the only source reporting on these stories:
Park Ranger admits being told to make life as difficult for people as possible
Warren Meyer, owner and president of the Arizona-based Recreation Resource Management, a company that runs over 100 U.S. Forest Service campgrounds and day-use areas, said he received orders directly from the White House to close up shop.
RMM’s operations, he said, “are self-sufficient (we are fully funded by user fees at the gate), we get no federal funds, we employ no government workers on these sites, and we actually pay rent into the Treasury.”
“I can only assume their intention is to artificially increase the cost of the shutdown as some sort of political ploy,” he told Fox.
Obama Administration Forces Hundreds of Privately Funded Parks to Close Amid Shutdown
“We do not know why CMCF was barricaded from public access or why NPS police escorted staff and volunteers off the property right before a fundraising event on Monday. The National Park Service does not pay CMCFs employees, for its operations, maintenance, events or programs,” Claude Moore Colonial Farm Operations Manager Heather Bodin wrote in an email to FOX Business. “In our 32-year history of running the farm, through other government shutdowns, we have never had to close our doors before.”
The same is true for the more than 100 U.S. Forest Service campgrounds and day-use areas run by the Arizona-based company Recreation Resource Management.
In a letter to his congressman, RRM’s owner and president Warren Meyer writes that his parks haven’t been affected by past government shutdowns because “our operations are self-sufficient (we are fully funded by user fees at the gate), we get no federal funds, we employ no government workers on these sites, and we actually pay rent into the Treasury.”
Senior Admin. Official: ‘We Are Winning…It Doesn’t Really Matter to Us’ When Shutdown Ends
“We are winning,” said a senior administration official. “It doesn’t really matter to us” how long the shutdown lasts “because what matters is the end result.”
“It’s because the White House (or, at least this unnamed official) believe it is ‘winning’ by shutting down the government and blaming Republicans. And when one’s winning, he’s not likely to change course,” Daniel Halper wrote.
Which means the administration is prepared to inflict even more pain on average Americans in order to win a partisan political battle with Republicans.
But it may be something of a pyrrhic victory for Obama and the Democrats. They may very well get most, if not all, of the funding they want for Obamacare, but will have angered so many Americans in the process that it will cost them dearly in upcoming elections.
White House’s Hard Line on Shutdown, Debt Ceiling Has Risks Attached
Already, the shutdown has produced images of inconvenience, lost pay, and disruptions in wedding and vacation plans. The Republican National Committee has offered to cover the cost of keeping open the World War II memorial for the next month after a group of veterans toured the site even though it was closed due to the shutdown…
…Mr. Obama said Thursday people should resist the impulse to blame both sides equally.
We agree with Obama on that, but we do not how this Liar-In-Cheif would want us to. The House is trying to fund every part of the government except Obamacare, It is the Senate and Obama who refuse to negotiate who is forcing the shut down, and it is Obama alone who is using the same tactic he used in the sequester to make as many Americans as possible feel the pain unnecessarily. Clearly we should resist the impulse to automatically blame the Republicans, and place the blame where it really belongs, on an arrogant, petty President and obstinate Senate Democrats who refuse to compromise.
Greg
if a PARK RANGER IS ANGRY ENOUGH TO SAY THAT,
I SURE BELIEVE HIM AND TAKE IT ON HIS WORD,
HE IS TAKING A CHANCE TO LOOSE HIS JOB TO TELL THE PEOPLE,
LlKE ONE SAID, THERE IS A DEGREE OF INSANITY WITH OBAMA, HOW CAN HE BE A PRESIDENT IF HE LOST HIS MIND BECAUSE OF HIS UNRESTRAINED WISH TO PUNISH THE
AMERICANS, IT SHOW A MADMAN
WHO LOST SELF CONTROL,
AND THE GREAT DANGER IS HIS FOLLOWERS AGREE ‘WITH HIM,
HAIL HITLER
@retire05, #9:
Greggie, just like clockwork, when you can’t disprove a claim that makes the Obamanation look bad, you go after the messenger.
Rational adults generally understand that the burden of proof for a damaging claim is on the one who makes it. For this claim you have no proof at all, other than its having been made by some character writing for a right wing propaganda rag that’s sponsored by a South Korean religious cult.
Such wouldn’t be my first choice as a source for accurate information. You apparently have no problem taking anything they say as the truth without a shred of evidence; in this case, without even an attribution specific enough to be source checked.
@Greg: Admt it, Greg, you need to prove the statement is false.
I recall being exasperated when, a few years ago, Iranian PressTV site wrote that ex-German chancellor Schmidt had conversed with an un-named Iranian diplomat to the effect that he denied the Holocaust.
It took three weeks before Mr. Schmidt got around to issuing a statement that the entire story was a lie.
By that time many media outlets had run with the story.
Once Schmidt went on record, the supposed Iranian diplomat was nowhere to be found.
PressTV never retracted their story, which, I suspect was intended for internal Iranian consumption only.
The fact of the matter is, Park Rangers are not a monolithic body who parrot Obama at every turn simply because they are federal employees.
The reporter most likely accurately quoted some Park Ranger.
Otherwise, by now, someone would have come forward and claimed, ”I never said that!”
It’s so obvious they are trying to cause pain by closing OPEN AIR MEMORIALS. These are not in buildings but are open 24/7. During the so called shutdown they have to pay people to put up barriers that normally aren’t there.
Only a leftist suck up would see this any other way. They ignore the obvious to tow the liberal line. Sad.
@Nan G, #15:
The reporter most likely accurately quoted some Park Ranger.
Otherwise, by now, someone would have come forward and claimed, ”I never said that!”
No source was named by the “reporter,” consequently there’s no one to come forward to either confirm or deny the “quote.” That essentially means the writer can get away with claiming whatever he wants.
This is the same sort of crap FOX News was pulling in their Benghazi coverage right before the presidential election. Sources on the ground in Benghazi have told us; intelligence sources have told us; unnamed Pentagon sources have told us; etc etc. To any critical thinker, taking such reports at face value is totally ridiculous. The pattern was glaringly apparent.
BTW, most National Parks make money for the Federal Gov’t.
So, why close them?
It is obvious Obama is looking for sob stories.
He even posted a question on WH.gov site asking, ”please send us your sad shutdown stories.
Please!”
LOL!
800,000 employees off the job (with full pay to come later) and no real sob stories except that old soldiers still have bigger balls than Obama.
@Greg:
That essentially means the writer can get away with claiming whatever he wants.
Get over yourself Greg. Just because MSNBC works that way, doesn’t mean all news reports that quote anonymous sources do. I hate to burst your partisan far-left bubble but all news reporters will use anonymous sources in their reports, if the source wants to remain unknown. With such a rabidly vengeful and fervently anti-whistleblower President like Obama, an anonymous source would be very wise to request that a reporter not release their name in order to protect the source. This doesn’t mean that either the reporter or source are lying, it is a common courtesy to ensure that sources can give their information without malicious retribution by their bosses. If it wasn’t for the anonymous source “Deep Throat” there would have been no reason for Nixon to eventually resign. You just don’t like it when it is your messiah that the news report makes look bad. Unfortunately for you, the modus operandus of this President during the sequester is being repeated here. In both circumstances Obama has been acting like totally sadistic banana-republic dick-tator, taking measures that are purposely planned to hurt innocent Americans and pretending that this hurting is a natural fallout of the government shut down when everyone in government and the MSM knows full well that it isn’t. The National Park System administrators tried to do the exact same thing when it looked like their funding would be cut by Democrats in Congress under the Bush administration. The difference here is that Federal administrators have admitted that these marching orders are coming directly from the White House rather than agency leadership.
Jan Brewer of Arizona has gone one further than simply opening their own National Parks.
She stopped the delivery of ALL welfare checks in Arizona.
The Feds had not funded the deliveries, so….
States are allowed to use contingency funding or move money around to fund the cash-assistance payments, and other states have done so. In a letter to state welfare directors this week, federal officials said states would be reimbursed once the budget impasse is resolved.
Senate Minority Leader Leah Landrum Taylor, D-Phoenix, said DES Director Clarence Carter told her he had no funds available to make the welfare payments.
DES officials indicated that “there isn’t money that they can free up to cover this.”
Like in Utah, there are Help Wanted signs all over Arizona, and only 5,200 households getting assistance in the state of Arizona.
Remarkable (but not surprising in the least) that 100% of the shutdown outrage here narrowly focuses on access to national parks. Ridiculous, I agree, that the GOP has forced our government to shutter these national treasures, but with the twenty or so posts, I think it’s been well covered. But does anyone here care about the 9 million mothers and children under five who are about to lose access to vouchers for healthy food, breastfeeding support, infant formula and other necessities dispensed at clinics nationwide? Of course not. Those deadbeats might finally have to get jobs. Let’s go back to ignoring all that and gin up more anger about Obama/parks/veterans/outrage (rinse, repeat).
TOM
OH MY.
OBAMA AGAIN, HE DOESN’T CARE WHO GET HIT,
HE JUST HIT,
@Tom: I could go a rant about missing NASA TV and the “astronomy pic of the day” web site. Just a couple more examples of the pettiness of this administration and the democrats in general. Think back to Wisconsin, when the dems, facing the possibility of not getting their way, took their balls & bats and lit out for Illinois.
@Tom:
ROTFLMAO………………………….
Obviously, it is the Democrats in the Senate that care little for the people living off the taxpayer largess since Harry Reid has refused to agree to a bill passed by the House of Representatives that would cover the very bleating heart issue you reference.
Everything, every other government program, would have been continued by the CR except for the Democrats sacred cow, Obamacare.
There are charities all across the nation that have food banks, will help mothers with babies, supply infant formula, diapers, car seats, baby food, etc.
And if anyone should command your respect, and honor, it should be those very veterans who fought for your right to be a fool.
Nothing like kicking seniors out of a home they own just so that Obama can try to make even more people miserable:
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) — The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they’re being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.
Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They’ve been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn’t an option.
The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they’ve owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.
“I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants,” Joyce Spencer told Action News.
The Stewart’s Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they’re not allowed in until the government reopens.
Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, “Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen.”
Damn you, Harry Reid.
Damn you, Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.
Did you folks know we captured a top Al Queda target in Libya? You wouldn’t find out around here. But I’m sure Dr John is diligently working on a photoshopped picture of Obama kicking a wheelchair bound veteran in the head outside the Washington Monument.
yes that’s all it meant for OBAMA,
MAKE THEM MISERABLE HE SAID,
IN HIS WORDS,
HE ALONE IS THE ONE SHUTTING DOWN THE GOVERNMENT,
OUT OF SPITE,
NO REPUBLICANS WOULD HAVE DONE IT,
@Tom:
Did you folks know we captured a top Al Queda target in Libya?
Are you now claiming to be a Navy SEAL, since they were the ones who captured the al Qaeda terrorist? And how long before Obama claims credit as if he were on that mission and single handedly nabbed the guy?
@Tom:
Then we are agreed that the refusal of Obama or Harry Reid to negotiate is unnecessarily hurting people. The House has sent two separate bills that include funding for such programs, they have now started sending individual bills and I have little doubt that the programs you mention above will be included. The Senate wont even go to conference the House to reach a compromise (a process Democrats always laud when they are in the minority), and Obama claims that even if they did, that he wouldn’t sign it. ergo, Democrat refusal to even discuss compromise has caused the government shutdown. If you really care about these programs you would tell your Democratic leaders to quit being the party of “our way or the highway” and start negotiating. Glad you see it our way.
THAT WAS VERY BAD OF THEM OBAMA AND LOYALS TO AWAKEN ,
HOUSE SPEAKER BOEHNER, HE WAS QUITE AND JOLY,
NOW YOU WILL SEE THE BEAST IN HIM RIGHTFULLY AND IT WAS TIME FOR HIM TO SHOW HIS ANGER ,
OBAMA HAS DEMONISE THE REPUBLICAN SINCE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE,
THEY ALLOW HIM TO SHOOT HIS ATTACKS SO MANY TIMES,
IT TOOK A LONG TIME BUT THE HOUSE SECRETARY BOEHMER, IS NOW ON THE RIGHT MOOD,THANK’S TO TED CRUZ AND RAND PAUL AND MIKE LEE, AND MICHAEL RUBIO’S EFFORTS TO CORRECT A LAW, FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T WANT IT,
