A 19-year-old Oregon woman who drove an SUV into a leaf pile, accidentally killing two young girls playing in it, has been taken into federal custody and may face deportation.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said on Monday that Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros is being placed in removal proceedings and will be held at a detention center in Tacoma while she awaits a bond hearing before an immigration judge.
“The immigration judge will determine whether or not Ms. Garcia-Cisneros remains in detention for the duration of her immigration case,” ICE spokesman Andrew Munoz said in a statement.
Garcia-Cisneros was sentenced to three years of probation and 250 hours of community service on Friday. A jury found the woman guilty of two counts of felony hit-and-run earlier this month.
Prosecutors said the crash on Oct. 20 in Forest Grove, 25 miles west of Portland, was an accident. But they say the teen failed to come forward after learning she might have struck the children in the leaf pile, which was on the street. Police found her the following day.
Authorities said the two girls — later identified as stepsisters, 6-year-old Anna Dieter-Eckerdt and 11-year-old Abigail Robinson — were likely concealed by the leaves and not visible to Garcia-Cisneros.
Anna died at the scene. Abigail died later at a Portland hospital.
Minutes after Garcia-Cisneros drove through the leaves on her way home, her brother returned to the scene and saw a man standing over the pile, screaming. The man spoke to him briefly.
The boy went home and told his sister she may have hit two children.

Now she’s a criminal that will probably be deported, not even having to suffer from the slap on the hand the court gave her, and she can live a happy life in what ever shithole country she left while two little girls are dead and have no life.

Isn’t it true that most people do NOT hit-and-run?
If a person hits some other car or a person, they usually stay for the investigation or, at the very least, share their information with the owner of the damaged car.
BUT, when an illegal has an accident (and this was an accident) they have an incentive to flee.
They do not desire to come to the attention of law enforcement even if it means upping the level of their accident to a felony crime.
I think that is why it is important, Greg.
Only a minority of legal residents do this but a majority of illegals do it.

I think that might tell us more about the dilemma many undocumented aliens find themselves in than it does about their character, or about the character of Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros. It doesn’t appear that she knew she had hit anyone until later. She didn’t knowingly flee the scene of an accident. She apparently didn’t know there had been an accident. Her conduct later is questionable, but I can understand how a 19-year-old kid could be in a state of denial.

Greg, it appears she DID know she’d hit someone. She sent her brother back to the leaf pile to see how bad the damage was that she’d inflicted, and he reported back to her she had, as she suspected, run over children. She DID knowingly flee the scene of an accident. Her conduct isn’t questionable, is contemptible.

Both the prosecution and the defense agreed that there’s no reason to believe she knew she’d hit someone at the moment the accident occurred. She wasn’t found guilty of knowingly fleeing the scene of the accident, but of failing to come forward once she found out what had happened. Oregon law treats the two things in the same way. The girl’s failing was denial. She refused to accept the reality of what happened. She believed what she wanted to believe.
Some here should be able to understand that sort of problem, I think

She’s not a 19 year old “girl”, she’s a legal adult, and a criminal who violated the sovereignty laws of the United States.
I suggest you go to her native land and do what she did and then claim you were just in denial. See how far it gets you.

Perhaps, but I’d happily trade people like you for people like her any day. She might have broken the law, but there’s no indication that she’s angry, vindictive, and hateful. She’s only 19. You, on the other hand, have probably had plenty of years to have become a better human being. Apparently you declined the assignment at some point.
The children’s mother has publicly forgiven the girl who accidentally ran them over. There’s probably a lesson in that.

It appears Garcia-Cisneros isn’t the only one relying on denial. According to the article, she felt the “bump” when she ran over the little girls, was bothered by the “bump” when she ran over the little girls, but never stopped to investigate the “bump” when she ran over the little girls.
While it cannot be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt she KNEW she’d just run over children upon the moment of impact, it CAN be proven she suspected she had on impact and within minutes AFTER impact she DID know beyond the shadow of a doubt.
And Greg, again, if she hadn’t been here illegally those two little girls would still be alive. MANY Americans would still be alive today if it weren’t for illegal thugs and drunk drivers.

The mother of the children—surely the single living person who has been most grievously injured by the accident—has publicly forgiven the driver. She didn’t attempt to turn a human tragedy into a wedge to divide the world into us and them. She apparently looks at Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros as another individual human being, not as a part of some labeled category.
Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros trial should have been entirely about a particular individual’s culpability for a particular accident. Some people preferred to see her as the representative of a despised group, and her trial as a de facto immigration hearing.

Undocumented is a more accurate adjective describing aliens who are inside our borders without proper documentation. Persons are neither legal or illegal. It doesn’t really matter much. It’s only a matter of usage.
