NYT: Obama personally overseeing U.S. intel’s Al Qaeda “kill list”

Loading

A dynamite piece, well worth 10 minutes of your time. In fact, there’s no better proof of just how far O’s “evolved” from his 2008 counterterror posture to the “Cheney lite” figure we know today than the number of sources who cooperated with the Times on this story. This isn’t just one “senior administration official” blabbing to a reporter about how the White House handles terror targets; this is “three dozen of his current and former advisers,” including Dennis Blair and Bill Daley on the record, cooperating. They want people to know about this, likely for two reasons. One: It’s a bit of transparency to try to pacify critics of the process, not unlike the NYT story from last October that revealed the basic thrust of the OLC memo that approved the targeting of U.S. citizen Anwar al-Awlaki. By releasing dribs and drabs of info to the Times instead of the underlying materials themselves, the White House keeps one foot in the “disclosure” camp and the other in the secrecy camp. Two: It’s a way to boost the campaign narrative of Obama as the strong, decisive leader who’s pummeling Al Qaeda. Remember, after he spiked the football on the anniversary of the Bin Laden killing, he was criticized for taking credit that rightfully belonged entirely to the SEALs. This piece is an implicit rebuttal: He’s more hands-on than you’d think. Savor the irony that the guy whom the left elected as a repudiation of Bush/Cheney is now using the NYT to make sure that people know he’s personally giving the thumbs-down to jihadis in the Oval Office.

There are too many interesting passages for the standard three-paragraph blockquote so let me snatch a few of the more intriguing details for you.

Personally, I much prefer to think that the President of the United States is not routinely delegating final authority to decide who is to be placed on a hellfire missile targeting list.

I wonder if OBAMA WILL SEND THE SEALS TO FREE THE DOCTOR WHO HELP HIM ,
IN THE BIN LADEN LOCATION ,
that would again put the SEALS IN GREATER DANGER, BECAUSE PAKISTAN KNOW
HOW HE OPERATE BY NOW, AND ARE ON GUARD. 24 HOURS ,
I HOPE IT DOESN’T COME TO HIS MIND, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT
HE CAN DO. IF HE DECIDE TO OVERLOOK THE DANGERS THE SEALS CAN FACE.
HE look like A KILLER ON THE LOOSE.
I don’t think MITT ROMNEY WILL USE THOSE MEASURES,
OF DEALING WITH ENEMIES, THAT IS NOT HIS WAY,
IT INCREASE THE HATE,IT DOESN’T FIX IT,
FOR ONE KILLED, THERE ARE HUNDREDS TO FILL THE HOLE,
and they pick on AMERICANS instead of picking on OBAMA

Allapundit touches on Obama’s teleolistic beliefs:

said an administration official who has watched him closely: the president seemed to have “a sense that if he sketches a vision, it will happen — without his really having thought through the mechanism by which it will happen.

Remember, it was Peter Pan encouraging the audience to clap their hands so that Tinker Belle (who had drunk poison) would be made well by the audience’s good vibes.
That is teleolistic thinking.
It is not real.
It cannot work in real life.
Yet that is the belief system of our president!
Yikes!

Rush Limbaugh and Rupert Murdoch better find a good bunker…

@Hard Right: And Mitt Romney should he start pulling away in the polls. Then again, what about everyone who was reported to Attack Watch?

Obama demanded that he get the short version of each ”terrorists” life….on a baseball-sized card.
Obama, it is claimed by insiders, takes all those cards into a private area and decides (how? why?) who lives and who dies.

“….Obama is shown a PowerPoint slide and a book of mugshots and biographies of suspects that look like a high school yearbook.
In one instance they included several Americans and a girl who was just 17 years old….
When he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2009, he had authorised more drone strikes than George W. Bush had approved during his entire presidency….”

Oh, and Romney won the nomination tonight getting 71% of the Texas vote.

I don’t recall any other president having a “Kill List.” So what if Obama gets a little confused between his “Kill List” and his “Enemies List.” The MSM will consider it an honest mistake, nothing to be alarmed about.

hi,
yes, he is a scary dude, thinking about it now, maybe that’s what
he want people to be scare of what he could do . a way to intimidate,
that is a power grab on anybody he fear.
bye

Remember when LBJ bragged about personally giving final approval to each and every bombing target? That certainly worked out well.

One condition of failure that liberal/progressives exhibit is the idea that they know better how to conduct ‘business’. This involves taking money from some and spending it “in a better manner than the people”, using highly unqualified people in places of high import making important decisions about business that they have no business making, AND, conducting military details personally from on high.

Whether it’s due to an extreme sense of insecurity about the people working for them, or their own inflated sense of self-import, they do not rely on those under them making any decisions of a magnitude greater than how they drink their coffee. This is why we can nearly be assured that not only is Obama personally directing the Al Queda “target list”, but also the EPA decisions, Holder’s DOJ actions, and even Carney’s babbling morning “explanations” to the media. And it all stems from a belief that they know best how to run everyone’s lives.

And here at FA we get the Obama apologists Greg and Lib1, defending every Obama action as if it’s the act of a god, denouncing any criticism of Obama’s actions as some kind of “right-wing” conspiracy of thought, in full support and gratitude for the shackles laid upon them.

Personally, I much prefer to think that the President of the United States is not routinely delegating final authority to decide who is to be placed on a hellfire missile targeting list.

I don’t know Word, sounds like he is doing so.

HE MUCH PREFER TO THINK THAT HE IS NOT DOING SO,
BUT WHAT IF WHAT GREG THINK IS NOT WHAT OBAMA IS NOT DOING,
WHAT IF HE IS DOING SO, WHAT WOULD GREG PREFER TO DO,
STILL DEFEND HIM OR CHANGE PARTY AFFILIATION?

@Wordsmith:

Except on this story (Isn’t Greg not defending the president in his comment #1?)

Read his comment through again, Word. He uses cumbersome language, but his point is that he would rather the President make the final decision nearly always, or always, on such things. That in itself isn’t such a bad thing, but after several years worth of reading Greg’s comments about various topics related not only to Obama, but Bush, as well as other past Presidents, I believe that I can make a determination that Greg is more inclined to desire the President micro-manage all, or nearly all, of the Executive Branch’s actions.

In my experience, I’ve found that the best leaders are those who can rely on the decision making abilities of their subordinates without any qualms, who rarely overrule them, and can accept total responsibility for those decisions. Why? Because those leaders tend to surround themselves with the best people they can find, and allow them to do their jobs. The micro-managers, on the other hand, never truly trust anyone else but themselves, but are also very quick to point the finger of blame to anyone but themselves, even if they are the ones making the decisions. I’ve worked for both and know which type I like working for. As an aside, that is exactly why I left my last job. I couldn’t stand working for someone who wanted me to be both a robot, doing every thing, and only, what he directed me to do, as exactly as he told me to do them, and then turned around and blamed me for when things went wrong, even though he was the one who told me to do it that way. Sound like anyone we know in politics?

I worked, when in the Navy, for an excellent leader on the USS Enterprise. Capt. BJ McCullough was our Engineer, and the best person that I ever worked for. He could be very demanding of results, but he allowed a person working for him to grow into, and beyond, the job they were in by simply stating, in general terms and ideas, what he wanted, and then expecting his people to accomplish it, making the necessary decisions along the way to get the job done. He could do this because he knew that the people he had working for him in the various capacities were the best he could find. As such, people were also willing to go well above and beyond their required jobs. Myself and four other individuals once spent nearly 3 days straight awake and working in order to get a pump, needed for ‘Manuevering’ capabilities, taken apart and rebuilt so that the ship could pull into a “Liberty” port. The Engineer only directed us to rebuild the pump, and we had a week to do it. That’s it. All else was left to our discretion, knowledge, and ability to get the job done. When we finished the job, the “Well done” we received from the Engineer was the best accolades any of us could have received, or would want to receive. The Captain of the ship told him “Good Job”, and he corrected the Captain by directing the praise to myself and the other four individuals, in particular, and everyone who gave us support in any way, including the machinists in the Air Wing for use of their press. I have no doubt, none at all, that if we hadn’t gotten the job done in time that he would have accepted total responsibility for the failure.

Long story, I know, but I wanted to attempt an illustration of the difference in leadership that I prefer. Needless to say, Obama has displayed himself as the type that I detest. A micro-managing imbecile who won’t take responsibility for his missteps, but takes all the credit when things go well. He is a “me-firster” type of person and everything is all about Obama. And it all originates in the liberal/progressive ideology, and idea of how to teach children, or raise children. Everyone is praised, regardless of how well they did, everyone receives “participation” ribbons or trophies, their is no first place winner, hence their is no loser. This instills a high sense of self-import into children whose parents don’t, or can’t, override this, resulting in eventually young people who are all about themselves, who “know” that they are the best, and any failures surrounding them always are due to someone, or something else. Blame is placed on those surrounding them, or circumstances, and responsibility is never taken. When things go well, these type of people, as in Obama, tend to take all of the credit, even if they in actuality did nothing. And everything is about them. This is why Obama speaks using terms of “I”, “Me”, “My team”, “My WH”, “My Administration”, “My party”, etc., except when things don’t go well, or his way, and then everything is in terms of “those people”, “that party”, “circumstances beyond my/our control”.

I think liberal/progressives prefer Obama’s style because they prefer to be told when, how, and where to do things, without ever wondering about the why, and without having to make any hard decisions themselves while doing it. This is why someone like Greg can prefer that the President, Obama in this case, decide all, or nearly all, of everything the government does, and then defend the President’s “blame everyone else” attitude when things don’t go well.

For example, using this topic’s subject, if there were two terrorists to go after, but Obama decided to let one go and get the other one, and the one he let go committed an atrocious act of terrorism, say, at an American embassy, what do you think Obama would do? Who do you think he would blame for the failure to stop the act of terrorism? Do you think Obama would take responsibility for going after the wrong guy?

Read Greg’s comment in full, again. Yes, he said “President of the United States”, however, knowing his feelings on liberal/progressives and conservatives, do you honestly believe that he means anything other than Obama? Do you honestly believe he would say the same thing about, say, Bush, or Romney if elected? I don’t.
