MI Bar’s Ban Lawmakers for Banning Smoking

Loading

They’re banning pet pigs in St, Charles, Missouri (even small, hypoallergenic ones like Pepper!) and Nice Cream in Illinois (even though it’s packed with natural ingredients and the owner says its bacterial levels are well below state-approved levels!), but neither can claim the top slot because, well, this time Nanny of the Month is doing something different…

For the first time ever Nanny of the Month is cheering a ban.

That’s right, starting September 1 , more than 500 Michigan restaurant and bar owners will begin turning state lawmakers away from their establishments. State Senator So-and-so wants a brew? Too bad. Politicians won’t be served until they revisit the state’s 2010 smoking ban, which, owners say, has devastated business, and left bars like Sporty O’Tooles on the verge of collapse.

Surely you must recognize that the smoking bans in California have been an enormous success. Despite all the gloom and doom of the bar owners, which predicted otherwise. We do have the advantage of smokers being able to go outside without freezing their tushes, but similar smoking bans across the country and around the world have been successful, as well.

It’s always tough to get a good job. Airline, restaurant, and bar employees should not have to choose between health and a paycheck.

Before the nanny state took over, 60% of Americans smoked. Left to market economics, millions more people would have died from tobacco related illnesses. Left to market economics, the air over Los Angeles would still be orange. Left to market economics, our rivers and lakes would be foul. Left to market economics, tobacco addicts would still be driving their kids around with rolled up car windows, while filling their ashtrays, the way it was when I grew up.

Larry,
Bars here in CA allow smoking.
At least some of them do.
Some here locally call themselves ”smoking bars,” and have some really great sounding menus.
But I’ll pass.
I like that there’s choice.

And yet the two countries that didn’t and don’t answer to market economics have tremendously bad pollution problems.
Russia and China.
Larry, it’s not the 1890s so spare us the Capitalism is bad B.S.

@openid.aol.com/runnswim: Let them smoke! This way the death committees wont have to invoke the obamcare age 73 and no cancer treatments because they are not worth saving; not cost justified.

There are a swarm of zealot types that want to “Save the Planet”, freedom people want to “Share the Planet” even with many of chose that wish to use their own money paying for their own health and life insurance to enjoy a smoke. Personally, I would prefer a smoke free restaurant but if the corner ginmill has great tunes with cool customers that smoke I’m there. Adolph Hitler hated smoke and jazzy type people and he had busy-body types everywhere. I hate busybodies.
