It can’t happen here? It is happening here

The Second Amendment is Obsolete, some say. The idea that the United States could ever turn tyrannical is pure paranoia, some say.

Well, let’s look at that.

Rounding up people and sending them to concentration camps (whether called “reservations” or “relocation centers”). Check. (Treatment of Native Americans. Japanese-American “Relocation Centers” during World War II).

Illegal medical experiments involving infecting people with diseases, not treating them, and observing the effects done on people without their knowledge or consent. Check. (Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment–and particularly interesting how that was “explained” to the victims as they were getting free health care from the US Government.)

Arbitrary searches of American citizens’ households aimed at the seizure of property without either probable cause or any kind of warrant. Check. (post-Katrina gun Confiscation)

Laws passed allowing the indefinite detention of American Citizens without due process of law. Check. (NDAA 2012)

American citizens going about their daily business being stopped and searched again without probable cause or any kind of warrant (or even the “reasonably articulable suspicion” for a “Terry Stop”). Check. (TSA, not just at Airports, but at bus terminals, rail and subway terminals, highways, even High School Proms.)

“Can’t happen here?” It has and is happening here.

Tell me again how the Second Amendment is obsolete since it’s not needed to defend against tyranny.

Remember Wounded Knee… an effort to seize guns for the safety and security of the tribe, right?

And what good did Second Amendment rights do in these situations? No good because they were propagated against a minority of citizens whose human right have only been supported, historically, by the far-left.

@Liberal1 (Objectivity): There ya go, rewriting history to tailor your agenda once again. Explain to us how the left “historically supported human rights” when the KKK was founded by liberals, the biggest opposition to civil rights laws were democrats and that opposition went all the way back to the late 1800′s. I’m looking forward to reading this…

The Second Amendment protects all the others as well.

Your grasp of American History never ceases to amaze me. The American President that was a precursor to the progressive movement, Andrew Jackson, was solely responsible for the Indian Removal Act. The Cherokee tribes of Georgia resisted and took their case to the Supreme Court. SCOTUS ruled agains Jackson, but he refused to abide by their decision. Instead, he said, “John Marshall has made his decision; let him enforce it now if he can.”

As long as you’re making a list of trampled amendments, I’d add that the fifth amendment seems pretty clearly violated by civil asset forfeiture.

“You put more guns on the street expect more shootings,” McCarthy said. “I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.”

Chicago Police Chief Gary McCarthy is making an entirely reasonable prediction.

If you’re an unknown person with a gun in your hand at any setting where police are responding to a shooting in progress, there’s a significantly higher probability that you will be shot.

Anyone legally carrying a firearm needs to understand why that is, and act accordingly.

True enough, Greg. Freedom has costs. Usually when people say ‘Freedom isn’t free’ they’re specifically talking about the sacrifices made by our military, but you can also take a broader meaning from it. The existence of a large number of concealed carry permit holders does create certain headaches for police (while also providing some benefits). The Miranda ruling has probably set free quite a number of criminals. Various rulings related to the fourth amendment also make police work more difficult. Price we pay for living in a (still very) free country. Like Eisenhower said: ‘If you want total security, go to prison. There you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking… is freedom.’.

PS: the police chief you quote was appointed by Rahm Emanuel. While I’m sure he’s not an Abbie Hoffman style communist or something I’m not surprised that he would be sympathetic to a gun control agenda.

if one new at it buy a gun ,he or she will not be stupid enough to skip the learning process needed as long as she or he feel confident with it,
I DON’T SEE ANYONE NOT DOING IT BEING A RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNER IS THE FIRST PRIORITY,
I personally collect tools like small powerful DREMMELS, AND THEY COME OUT EVERY YEARS WITH A NEW ONE, and if I buy it, I am very shy for a while, and I get some one who know about it
or how to figure it, to teach me, and stay beside to see me trying it, and answer all my questions,
and me trying it again until i feel secure.
then I KNOW I can use it to do things,
it’s similar feeling as a training to shoot , except it is for protecting one or a whole family.
just a tool, it is for me to use it with knowledge
