Doug Powers @ Michelle Malkin:
The Renewable Energy Industrial Index (RENIXX) tracks the stock of the 30 largest renewable energy companies in the world with more than half of their revenues coming from “green” business (wind, solar, biofuel, etc). Last month the RENIXX Index hit an all time low:
(Larger version here) Al Gore’s reaction was predictable.
If only we could figure out a way to harness the power of bursting bubbles (there’s your next project, Secretary Chu… run with it!).
This article in the Washington Times explains the implosion. Ironically, the purported quest for sustainability is totally unsustainable:
But the subsidy-driven green energy wave soon hit a brick wall of fiscal reality. Spain paid solar operators up to ten times the rate for conventional electricity with a 20-year subsidy guarantee. With a guaranteed annual return of 17 percent, every hombre entered the solar business, making Spain the largest solar cell market in 2008. But the nation’s subsidy obligation soon mounted to $36 billion dollars. In 2009, Spain cut the subsidies and its solar market dropped by 80%.
In Germany, feed-in tariffs of eight times the market rate resulted in the installation of over one million roof-top solar systems by 2010. But the 20-year guarantee also produced a subsidy obligation of over $140 billion. German electricity rates climbed to the second highest in the world and continue to climb to pay for green energy. To stop the bleeding, Germany cut feed-in subsidies three times in 2011 and announced a complete phase-out by 2017. Spain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other nations cut subsidies for wind, solar, and biofuels during the last three years.
Gee, big surprise. Take away the free tickets to the Gravy train, force the “greens” to stand on their own, and the moochers leave in droves from the industry.
Another bubble is bursting in the ending of warranties for thousands of wind turbines all over the US.
Pretty soon we will see thousands of inoperative turbines pockmarking this country as they are too expensive to keep up on one’s own dime.
04/15/22 – Wind power overtook coal, nuclear for first time on March 29
A 10 year old thread? Without coal you cant make a windmill. The windmills dont just grow where they stand it takes fossil fuels. They are bird killers. Get back to us when they can produce more power than they take to put one up and you can fully recycle them when they are toast.
Yes, indeed. Because the transition to renewable energy doesn’t happen overnight.
…or ever.
Anyone pushing wind and solar as our primary energy sources is a) paid to push the globalist narrative, or b) just plain stupid.
Wind and solar cannot meet our needs.
Next topic…
Did not work then doesnt work now, wont ever work.
Why did idiot Biden kill off a domestic solar panel manufacturer? 220 green jobs… gone. Poof. More panels from China, more money in idiot Biden’s pocket.
Green energy is not a viable source of energy to fuel a 20 trillion dollar economy
How about a 20 BILLION dollar economy? That’s where the Democrats are leading us… if THAT much.
So you approve and want it in the US?
Spain’s Wind Industry Slaughters Thousands of Endangered Birds With Impunity
Europeans have realized that Vladimir Putin cannot stop the wind from blowing.
…and that wind cannot begin to scratch the surface of meeting their energy needs.
Science is only difficult for those who don’t study.
I guess you never realized the wind DOES STOP BLOWING often. That means ZERO power. I like the lights coming on when I flip the switch. Not waiting for the wind to blow long enough and fast enough to do it.
The irony here is if a man stood where a wind turbine stood with a gun and randomly killed birds with abandon he would be jailed. Or if dead birds were covered in oil where a wind turbine would stand, environmentalists would be outraged. Yet people like you support this. It will always be part time at best and not without environmental costs.
The Great Green Lie: Wind & Solar Aren’t Saving The Planet, They’re Wrecking It
I personally think wind is great to have as part of a larger energy portfolio, but I’m not sure why idiots like greg and his Party keep pushing this as if it can replace everything else.
What are they up to? Maybe Biden needs to invoke “The New World Order” phrase again, so people really get it?
The global elites want most of us to die.
You can bring a chopped up bird back to life with Dawn, like one coated in oil.
How about stopping the hot air blowing from all you climate hypocrites?
Wind power overtook coal, nuclear for first time on March 29
Um…no. Not even close.
Wind power generation is seasonal. The article claims wind surpassed coal and nuclear (both running at lower capacities than they can) FOR A DAY.
Why did the hill post a complete lie?
Now, all the climate zealots have to do is shut down gas generation and wind can be #1! Such an honorable victory in a fair fight!
Still no wind farm off shore at Hyannis Port, though, huh? The legacy of Killer Kennedy lives on now that the Obama’s and their corruption cash have a mansion there; not even the climate can despoil the beautiful ocean view from their massive carbon footprint.
A look on the dark side of green energy.
Damnit, the link no longer works.
I researched putting solar panels on my house. My house is perfect for them; it faces north with lots of south-facing roof surface. I would LOVE to have a solar panel array.
However, even without storage capability, the expense was overwhelming. The panels would never repay themselves. I could have done it with subsidies, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it; that is dishonest.
One guy on a local forum was bragging about still having electricity through a recent outage, bragging about his genius. I simply pointed out how they can never pay back their cost, but of course, since he utilized taxpayer subsidies, his were almost free and a GREAT bargain. Such a stupid useful idiot.
Idiot Biden lifted tariffs on Chinese solar panels and put an Alabama solar panel company out of business. So much for all those “green jobs”, millions and millions, that will replace fossil fuel jobs and sustain us.
