96 Percent of Dems Who Support Minimum Wage Hike Don’t Pay Their Interns

Ashe Schow:

Democrats who want business owners to pay low-skill workers more don’t pay their interns, according to a new study from the Employment Policies Institute.

Ninety-six percent of the Democratic sponsors of the Fair Minimum Wage Act don’t pay their interns, and just two offices pay all of their interns.

Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, pays all his interns, as long as they’re Alaska residents. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont, is the only senator who pays all of his interns.

Others, like Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., have paid and unpaid interns or provide stipends for some interns.

Some of the most outspoken supporters of a minimum wage hike, like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., don’t pay their interns.

“In other words, the same members of Congress who are supporting a 40% wage hike on private sector employers are simultaneously failing to provide any wages to their own employee interns,” EPI wrote.

Who says Dems don’t love the 1%’ers?
Who else could subsidize their grown ”child” during a multi-months-long FREE, unpaid internship?
You’re relocating to a new city.
You have to pay rent.
You have to pay transportation costs to and from.
You have to buy proper clothing.
Unpaid internships have the effect, if not the intent, of providing the children of the super-rich with major advantages over the children of the lower 99 percent in the job market after college.
Imagine what a benefit a White House/Senate/House internship is on a résumé.

Meanwhile Obama made laws against unpaid interns in private business.

And this absolutely typical example of leftist hypocrisy surprises anyone why?

“Leftist hypocrisy” is redundant.

@ThunderGod:

“Leftist hypocrisy” is redundant.

True.

I guess you don’t understand the concept of ‘intern.’

@This one:
And as characteristic of you, you don’t understand hypocrisy.

@This one:

1.a resident member of the medical staff of a hospital, usually a recent medical school graduate serving under supervision.
2.
Education , student teacher.
3.
a person who works as an apprentice or trainee in an occupation or profession to gain practical experience, and sometimes also to satisfy legal or other requirements for being licensed or accepted professionally.

Funny, none of these ‘definitions’ of intern include that they don’t get paid. Only that they are learning. Almost every occupation I know pays you while you learn, ever hear of apprentices, trainee, etc.
