Rush: “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke”;

Loading

Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims.  It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week.  In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke.  However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand.  It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not.  Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.

Rush is cutting bait and moving on. The media, of course, will try to get another news cycle out of this. Limbaugh had advertisers pulling out. He’s been around a long time and understands the need to pull out of a pot when you ain’t got the cards.

The media will do everything they can to make this election about anything other than the economy. Remember how befuddled everyone was during the ABC Repulican debate when George Stepawhatshisface and Diane Sawyer asked question after question about contraception. Nobody could figure it out…with 25-plus percent unemployment and underemployment, ABC wanted to talk about birth control. Three weeks later we had our answer…the war on the Catholic church began. Still, over a month later not one msm question about the trashing of the establishment clause.

One hundred and seventy years ago Otto Von Bismark began his attempt to solidify Germany under Prussian rule by his “Kulturkampf” a war on the Catholic church. It’s a way to gather up a loose association of sometimes supporters to make hate. Nothing solidifies like hate.

Media can’t talk about five dollar gas…if they do, Obama loses. They know this. Wait and see…this campaign will be about everything except the economy.

Dang, I’m reticent to even comment on this nonsense since it just perpetuates the diversion and rabbit hole of discussion this election season. This is hardly the news that should be splashed across the nation as headlines. But perhaps a bit of business perspective must be interjected into the mix of emotional tangents this subject has spawned.

While Don Surber (hopefully in jest) wants to take credit for Rush’s apology after his morning op-ed saying he should apologize, I’d say it’s more likely the real pressure was applied by syndicate powers. Rush’s foray off real issue messaging cost them at least five sponsors who pulled their ads. These include Legal Zoom, Sleep Train, Sleep Number, GotomyPC and Kelly Quicken Loans.

Perhaps the real lesson to the lib/progs, who are riding this wave of absurdity to the extremes that even Rush can’t match, is that the free market is the most effective discipline…. if ad sponsors wish to pull their airtime because of controversial behavior, they can affect that behavior. And those that purchase those products can express their willingness to boycott the companies unless they pull the advertising, ergo pressing them into action like this.

Ain’t capitalism and free markets grand? Discipline and expression of disapproval is easily accomplished, and most effective, by controlling where the contents of the wallet go.

Perhaps now the nation can get back to the more pressing issues of the economy, jobs and energy policies?

Rush used the absurd to attack the absurd, from the beginning the picture drawn by the feminists was that this woman was in a constant state of sexuality like the woman character depicted in the Henry Miller novel Tropic of Cancer. That was the insult, that females being female are constantly weak to the needs for sex – sex – sex and more sex. There is sex and there is Groucho’s cigar, this law school student, breaking the theme of Our Bodies – Our Selves, has merged the two. The intelligence in my life puts the women in my life more than sex addicts so for that feminist law school student to paint all women to be like herself a sex addict is the insult. There are 12-steps Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings in WashDish so perhaps she should get a meetings list.

RUSH = LOSER.

Sorry, the “Conservative” leadership keeps getting it’s ASS kicked by the libs and I”m sick of it.

I used to admire Rush, now I see him as another loser Neocon hack.

The Republican Party is a joke.

Republicans = Dems.

Why can’t our side do ANYTHING effectively?

Rush was right about calling that gal a slut. She wants me to subsidize her sex habit, give me a camera and a ring-side seat.

***k the liberals. I’m sick off them and all the flacid “conservatives” who are too chicken to stand up and take the fight to the left.

Curt, thank you for this site. At least your doing SOMETHING that takes the fight to them.

Finally some sanity, and perspective… From MTP, Gregory vs Newt, courtesy of Newsbusters.

“You know, David, I am astonished at the desperation of the elite media to avoid rising gas prices, to avoid the President’s apology to religious fanatics in Afghanistan, to avoid a trillion dollar deficit, to avoid the longest period of unemployment since the Great Depression, and to suddenly decide that Rush Limbaugh is the great national crisis of this week”

Amen… since Gregory wasn’t about to let it go, Newt decided to set him straight on the debate, as he sees it… and as it relates to Rush’s apology.

Gregory continued to press the issue saying, “Do you think it was harmful that Limbaugh, as certainly an influential voice in a conservative grassroots and you well know that, was it appropriate for him to apologize? Do you think that he’s done damage to the debate that you’re now getting into?”

After saying it was appropriate for Limbaugh to apologize, Gingrich challenged Gregory asking, “Do you think the President owes an apology to all the men and women in uniform who he frankly abandoned when he apologized to religious fanatics in Afghanistan? What’s your opinion, David?”

Gregory, of course, refused to give an opinion on the turnaround.
