Politico posted a nasty article highly critical Of Congressman Steve Scalise:

Scalise, the No. 3 House Republican, is already getting hit from both the left and right after his office admitted it was “likely” that he spoke to the white supremacist group at a hotel in a suburb of New Orleans.

On Tuesday, The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee condemned Scalise, the House majority whip, and quoted popular conservative blogger Erick Erickson, who raised questions about Scalise’s “judgment” in appearing before the extremist group. Both Erickson and the DCCC wondered how Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who faces a leadership election in one week, will handle the revelation that then state representative Scalise in 2002 addressed the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, a David Duke-linked outfit.

It was complete with hyperbolic language:

“Steve Scalise chose to cheerlead for a group of KKK members and neo-Nazis at a white supremacist rally and now his fellow House Republican Leaders can’t even speak up and say he was wrong,” said Josh Schwerin, a chief spokesman for the DCCC.

That’s libelous but that’s the left for you. Never mind that the story was bogus.

Politico might want to exercise a little more caution as it does not withstand close scrutiny. At the Daily Caller Pat Howley wrote a highly amusing piece that exposes Politico:

WASHINGTON – Rep. Steve Scalise is believed to have once met with reporters inside Politico’s editorial offices in the northern region of the former Confederate state of Virginia.

But the website and Capitol Hill newsletter refused to answer questions about its relationship with the known white-supremacist-meeting-attender.

Scalise was interviewed by Politico during a May 2014 media tour in which the congressman visited various newsrooms to promote a proposed Republican Obamacare alternative. The tour occurred just twelve short years after Scalise’s well-documented attendance at a meeting of the European-American Unity and Rights Organization.

It turns out that Politico has established its own exclusively European operation.

And Howley notes something else:

Prominent Washington Post correspondent Wesley Lowery recently revealed that “black people don’t work for Politico.”

Here is the sea of nearly all white faces of those who work at Politico. It almost looks like a kind of white supremacist new outlet.

Jesse Jackson, take note!

And I think Erick Erickson owes Scalise an apology.

I read a bit of background on where this ”story” came from…..
Seems a Democrat, running against Scalise, hired some slimy individuals to dig up dirt on Scalise.
But this particular mother-son Dem operative team shopped around what they had not seen used back during the campaign.
Finally somebody picked it up, as too good to fact check.
Now look at them.

Nanny is correct. I’m also looking at some conservatives who have motivation to undermine Scalise, not realizing the damage they’re doing not just to the ‘brand’ of the GOP, but how it stymies what looks like a productive start to the new Congress.

Glass houses etc

Politico is generally viewed as right of center
Its first president and CEO for its first 6 years was the former Chief of Staff for Ronald Reagan
Why are you so surprised that he would not have hired more blacks
Scalise’s own office still says that it is likely that he did speak there
Ex KKK head David Duke says that he is almost ready to name names of politicians of both parties I for one would like to see that http://www.politico.com/story/2014/12/steve-scalise-113854.html
