Selling Illusions

Obama addressing Marine Corp
Obama addressing Marine Corp

Taking a short break from his daily golfology program, Obama’s principal statement in his address to the Marine Corps base was,  “Because of the extraordinary service of the men and women in the American armed forces, Afghanistan has a chance to rebuild its own country. …. We are safer. It’s not going to be a source of terrorist attacks again. …. The world is better, it’s safer, it’s more peaceful, it’s more prosperous.”

He plays to the immediate audience of dedicated military personnel and pretends to praise them, so how could anyone think he didn’t really mean the rest of what he said?   Surely the American people automatically accept whatever follows a pat-on-the-back of their military service men and women. Hopefully, not any longer.  Therein lies the insidious nature of this President’s addresses to his public. He uses plucking at heart-strings of a generous Nation to deliver his real message.

He has not demonstrated respect for America’s military and has in fact resented it, and apologized for it to the point where only 15% support their CIC.  Pandering to his supporters he asserts that “We are safer” and the world is “peaceful.”  How?  Where?  The world is in turmoil.  America is in turmoil.  The Middle East is ablaze. The Obama broadcast hightailing strategy out of Iraq has encouraged chaos and slaughter throughout that country.  ISIS buries whole villages alive, when it isn’t busy beheading children and recording some of the worse atrocities ever perpetrated on innocents in history.   Iran has been negotiated right into nuclear powerdom. Syria is no longer a country.  The Taliban controls Afghanistan and wreaks havoc on Pakistan. Putin is threatening Europe and the U.S. Most countries are experiencing serious economic trauma.   Statements containing claims of “safer,” “peaceful,” and professing that Afghanistan will not be a source of terrorism, are imaginary ramblings which are dangerous to the American public if they are believed.

Such illusions can be perilous.  Are these appropriate statements from a CIC?   Are they intended to make America complacent?   Perhaps they are simply intended to mesmerize an MSM that will rephrase, convert and gloss these lies into consumable and digestible banalities which the supportive statists will uncritically consume.   Only the faithful can possibly believe.  Only the devoted can accept being told that “more prosperous” is a reality.

Nevertheless, lies are lies.  But why?

Dear James,

There is nothing Obama could do that would earn you respect or praise. You would nit-pick every word or syllable. You are loathe to admit that his administration is one of the most successful in history. Virtually everything has improved since he took office, or promises to improve. You’ve got nothing left except for nit-picking. Carry on!

Dear James,

This nit-picking reminds me of African tribal members looking for lice. “ISIS buries whole villages alive,” I mean really; why do you insist on bringing up these inconvenient nits or facts? Do you realize this president has destroyed his party? No president has so completely destroyed the public’s confidence, that he lost such numbers in the house, senate, and state governments in over 50 years? All of this will seriously damage his efforts to construct a legacy from failure, as if building a legacy from failure isn’t difficult enough. It’s tough enough to bypass the congress and rule by executive fiat with memorandum, building treaties without Senate approval, changing immigration law with executive orders is risky; why, without a weak and ineffectual legislature it would be impossible. There is also the very real possibility, the GOP will lose control of their hand-picked RINO nomination and a real man will be elected to the presidency and he will immediately undo the insanity that our enemy in the White House has created. Yet, you have the audacity to point out the failures of this president’s greatest achievements. Shame on you.

@rockybutte: There are many ways to define success. I doubt I would agree with yours.
Fact is this president uses words liberally and they all have expiration dates on them with a very short shelf life.
Even when he is caught in a lie he lies again to try to cover it. You can keep your health insurance come to mind.

Here’s another example of his “success”.

@rockybutte: Obama doesn’t deserve respect. One needs to EARN respect and he has done nothing to that end.

Well written article. Only the O-zombies will not agree.

With the military approval rate at 15%, how many are still believing his lies? At work, and I work for the Army he isn’t talked about and when he is, it isn’t pretty. However those still admiring him are basing their adulation on the color of his skin and don’t want to hear about how he is destroying the country.

Obama thinks he can make things so simply by saying them. We call that delusion.

Oh Boy! Peace in our time!

@Skookum: #2,
LOL. Very well said, Skook. My bad.

@Mully: #3
Mully, it would be an impossible mission to dig for a President which has done more to destroy racial relations.

Hatred is so easy to discern, and yet his sycophants and apologists chose to ignore it.

@Disenchanted: #6
Disenchanted, yup, . . . there is a great swath of North American Caucasians which is stuck in gilt, self-loathing, and racism. All it can do is default to accusations of “racism” against anyone disagreeing with its confusion.

It is oh so easy to believe the speeches when you don’t pay any attention to actions. And most rational people understand actions speak louder than words.

1. Afghanistan has been a mess since before there was an Afghanistan
2. Russia’s economy is in collapse because Obama, unlike when Russia invaded Georgia, took action that had been effective … unlike his predecessor’s silly speeches
3. The survival of Syria as a nation is not really a concern for America, but you are welcome to go fight for Assad if you wish
4. ISIS is pretty much 100% evil, that’s for sure, and you have to wonder why the Iraqi Army that we trained and equipped for 10 years ran away or switched sides. Well, actually, we don’t have to wonder, we can just ask the Iraqis who preferred it to what the Bagdad Shiite government was doing.
5. The Kurds … You forgot them? They’re getting screwed because they always get screwed. Turkey could crush ISIS in an afternoon but is happy to let it kill Kurds.
6. What else? In objective terms, the world is more peaceful than at any time in history; your chances of being killed in a war are just about zero (unless you volunteer). That is not in the head lines because it does not sell newspapers.

@Mik Sacul: #5
Mik Sacul, thanks, and you’re right, the ideologically attached mind is a self-deluding rabbit hole which cannot and will not let common sense, or facts, or intuitive percepts bring daylight in to clarify its outlook.

@bobdog: #8
bobdog, good thing oil’s price has crashed, good for consumers here, and keeping Putin preoccupied with scrambling to support the rouble, rubble rouble. The flip side of that coin is that he’s now making rouble/renminbi deals for resources with China, trying hard to dislodge the tie to king dollar.

@Scott+in+Oklahoma: #12
Scott+in+Oklahoma, one of our biggest challenges is to grasp the meaning of those actions, and what the international bankers who control the game and the puppets “intend.”

Progs is funny. I swear that if obama told them that Madonna was a virgin they would nod their collective heads up and down in perfect synchronization.

@DrJohn:

Obama thinks he can make things so simply by saying them. We call that delusion.

No, doc, he thinks he can make people BELIEVE they are so by simply saying them. That is all he cares about, gathering enough dumb people to maintain power (rocky? You there?). Obviously, an actual achievement is neither necessary or worth the effort because the media will happily parrot his false proclamations.

@rewinn:

2. Russia’s economy is in collapse because Obama, unlike when Russia invaded Georgia, took action that had been effective … unlike his predecessor’s silly speeches

Sheesh, rewinn… what has Obama done at all but talk? Russia started to suffer when oil prices began to drop and that is happening IN SPITE OF Obama’s actions, which have been to shut down production in the Gulf of Mexico, block new exploration on federal lands and fight fracking wherever possible. In fact, had Obama not impeded so many energy producing initiatives, Russia would be on its knees, Europe would not be suffering from the loss of Russia natural gas and we would be a major supplier of natural gas for Europe.

ISIS, brought to you by…. OBAMA!! Had he not pulled ALL US forces out of Iraq too soon, ISIS would never have been able to expand as they have.

6. What else? In objective terms, the world is more peaceful than at any time in history; your chances of being killed in a war are just about zero (unless you volunteer). That is not in the head lines because it does not sell newspapers.

You just keep believing that dung, but I would not recommend you trying to sell it over seas… your head would probably wind up on YouTube. Because the US is now so weak internationally, thanks to Obama, the entire world is less safe.

“Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest,” an unidentified spokesman at the commission’s Policy Department said in a statement carried by the country’s official Korean Central News Agency

James Raider,
Has ANYBODY heard ANY emotion when obama talks about, or to, the troops? He very seldom has any emotion in his speeches, but you would think that when awarding the Medal Of Honor, or when speaking at other military events, that there would be SOME emotion in his voice.

You listed some of the problems happening around the world. obama is saying to himself, “Everything is going as planned.”

#1

Virtually everything has improved since he took office, or promises to improve. You’ve got nothing left except for nit-picking. Carry on!

LIST OF IMPROVEMENTS SINCE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE
(1) National debt at $18,000,000,000
(2) $1,100,000,000,000 budget.
(3) muslim terrorists expanding to other countries.
(4) Most of the new jobs are going to illegals.
(5) Fewer people working than when obama took office.
(6) More people on welfare than ever, and more being added all the time.
(7) Taxes going up.
(8) Size of government still increasing.
(9) More states are dropping obamacare.
(10) Military reduced to a size that our enemies are laughing at us.

Please list at least ONE of the “everything” you say has improved since obama took office. I’m guessing that you meant that everything has improved FOR YOU.

@Mik Sacul: #4

Obama doesn’t deserve respect. One needs to EARN respect and he has done nothing to that end.

I believe the capitalization of words by me should be EARNED. Some words that have lost their right to be capitalized by me are:

aarp
al gore
common core
congress
democrat
george soros
google
harry reed
house
house of representatives
isis
koran
jane fonda
joe biden
john boehner
john mccain
michelle obama
mich mcconnell
muslim
muslim brotherhood
nancy pelosi
new york times
nobel prizes
obama
oval office
president
ramadon
representative
republican
senate
senator
supreme court
united nations
washington dc
white house

Others can be added as they lose their right to be capitalized by me.

I also believe that any elected government office should be EARNED, not bought.
