Elysium, a movie from last year, is described this way:
Elysium is a 2013 American dystopian science fiction action thriller film written, directed, and co-produced by Neill Blomkamp, and starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.[3] It was released on August 9, 2013, in both conventional and IMAX Digital theaters. Elysium is a co-production of Media Rights Capital and TriStar Pictures.[4]
The film takes place on both a ravaged Earth, and a luxurious space habitat called Elysium.[5] It explores political and sociological themes such as immigration, overpopulation, health care, exploitation, the justice system, and class issues.[6]
And the plot goes like this:
In 2154, a small number of people reside on a luxurious space habitat called Elysium, and the vast majority on an overpopulated and devastated Earth. While those on Earth are policed by ruthless robots, Elysium’s citizens live in absolute comfort and regularly use medical devices called Med-Bays to cure any disease and injury, even reverse the aging process or give themselves whole new bodies and faces.
As with all Hollywood productions, this was no doubt meant in part as a shot to the right, but I saw the future of America in it, courtesy of Barack Obama and our current slate of liberal hypocrites. The move opens with a view of Los Angeles, which has become a wasteland, barely functioning. They get Obamacare and it is reflected in the hospital scenes. The predominant language is Spanish which immediately made me realize that this could be the ultimate result of the uncontrolled invasion by Spanish speaking illegals encouraged by Obama and democrats. The sorry truth is that countries South of the US are cesspools and for some reason liberals seem very eager to visit that destruction on this country.
The leaders live on Elysium in beautiful mansions.
Just like liberal democrats in Congress today.
They get the best health care.
Just like liberal democrats in Congress.
They are immune to the consequences of their actions.
Just like liberal democrats.
Their wealth is untouched.
Just like liberals in Congress.
They get the best of everything.
Just like liberals in Congress.

If you haven’t seen the movie Elysium you might want to consider it, if only to see what the future under liberal democrats would look like. It’s not simply dystopia, it’s democrat dystopia.

Didn’t see the movie yet. The undocumented population in the USA went from 8 million to 12 million under Bush. Under Obama it has fallen to 11.2 million
The scandal du jour seems to be the undocumented children. Exactly what do YOU think should be done with these law breakers? Jail?
As far as healthcare goes can you imagine a doctor who has treated a patient for many years refusing to treat a patient any longer because he will not be receiving 100% of the fee he believes he should receive ? Who would do such a thing? A liberal?

I, too, watched a great part of this movie and the same thought crossed my mind. This is a view into the socialist utopia. I don’t know where “john” gets his stats (probably a regime-controlled web site) but, if it’s true, then the reason is not because Barney Obumble and the Keystone Flops have tightened up on immigration. The reason is “the economy, stupid.” When they can’t find jobs, they leave. DUH!!!!

The fact is, we really don’t know how many undocumented aliens are in the country. Obama’s regime simply stopped trying to count them, just as he has stopped counting the unemployed, Obamacare enrollees, and the rising costs of gasoline and food as elements of inflation.
11.2 million illegals in the country?
More like 11.2 million illegals in California, alone.
We left LB only last year, but the city’s ”official” population was over 1/2 million. (That was via the 2010 census which supposedly included illegals.)
A school board member I was neighbors with told me there were very nearly 1/2 million children in the public schools there alone!
So, add to that all the adults and babies and I guess LB really had 1 million people….unofficially.
The only illegals I ever saw leave because of bad economic times were some of those good people who were here to work and send money home to family.
I never saw children leave, or gang-bangers leave, or even those who’s learned how to game the welfare system into giving them free housing, food and medical. (You know, the moms of the gang-bangers.)
@john: Immigration reform was attempted under Bush and, even though it offered a path to citizenship for illegals, it also provided a work-visa program which would keep track of those here. Of course, Obama and Schumer made sure this attempt failed (even as leftward leaning it already was) by inserting language that would get rid of even the moderate demand of work-visas being required, thus killing the bill.
The left has done the same now with their continued reliance on “trust us” as a means to replace compromise.
The total under Obama was as high as almost 20 million before his destruction of the economy made even illegal immigrants begin to consider the career opportunities in Mexico over here in the United States; this is the ONLY effective control of illegal immigration Obama has instituted. Unfortunately, it adversely affects far too many American citizens as well.

The space habitat concept of the film Elysium is idiotic at best. Only a complete moron of a project developer would be so opulent on a space construction such as that, and the engineers would have continually had to explain how vapid and unworkable the design is. The premise of the habitat is somewhat based on a Dyson Sphere. The first problem is that it is far too close to the Earth’s gravity. Which leads us to the second problem, the “rivers”, which introduce a huge variable instability element to the design (due to the effect of the nearby gravity wells of the Earth and Moon,) and it would be darn near impossible to sustain the ring’s rotational speed and attitude with the continually fluctuating fluidity of such expanses of water. (Not even considering the problems caused should any but the most minor of rotational speed adjustments be made.) The “bodies of water” could only have been filled gradually once the ring were up to speed, however the effect of nearby gravity wells on the curved “rivers” would continually throw the habitat out of balance, and a variably wobbling space station would not be fun to live on. There is also the problem of keeping the wheel in balance as mass is moved about the living space.
This is not to say that a “biosphere” type of space habitat could not be designed and built, it just could not be done without a very careful, mass-balanced approach, with a sensible consideration of space, need and function, rather than adopting to the aesthetically diverse demands of large numbers of over-privileged and likely egocentric twits.
