War on Terror Is Over?

I’m so glad that the War on Terror is over and we have won….

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham continues its lightning advance southward after seizing control of Mosul, the country’s second largest city, and the province of Ninewa and other areas of Salahaddin and Kirkuk provinces yesterday. ISIS has now captured the Salahaddin cities of Bayji, which has Iraq’s largest oil refinery, and Tikrit, the provincial capital.

ISIS units traveling in a convoy of more than 60 vehicles advanced into Bayji last night, and torched several government buildings, court houses, and police headquarters, according to ITAR-TASS and Reuters. ISIS fighters are said to have surrounded the refinery and sent a delegation to security forces who are holding out in the complex.

…After seizing Bayji, ISIS fighters moved to take control of Tikrit, the provincial capital and home town of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

…ISIS’ blitzkrieg from Mosul to Tikrit covered nearly 250 miles in the span of several days. The majority of the Iraqi security forces in the way of the ISIS either abandoned their posts and weapons and equipment, or melted away after brief skirmishes.

The scope of the operation, including the territory covered, indicates that tens of thousands of ISIS fighters participated in the recent fighting.

Meanwhile….

An offensive by a breakaway al-Qaida group in eastern Syria against Islamic rebel factions has killed more than 630 people and uprooted at least 130,000 since the end of April, an activist group said Tuesday.

Day after day we see the results of Obama’s foolish decision to back the wrong sides and run away from our commitments. Especially the commitment the families of all those men killed in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve. That commitment being that they didn’t die in vain. By withdrawing from these wars he has indeed ensured that they all died in vain and we are now much less safer then before.

Long wars usually have lulls.
Obama is creating a false lull, on OUR side only.
Some time, sooner rather than later, but AFTER Obama is gone, we will be forced to re-engage.
The enemy will see to that.
This is a long war.
Jefferson was right when he created the US Navy rather than pay ransoms for kidnapped merchant sailors.
In the short run as well as the long run, it is cheaper to defeat an enemy like these terrorists or those olden days pirates.

See what that boosche guy did — all his fault!

I think if Obama could unilaterally surrender the USA, he would.

@Rob in Katy: In effect — he has!

Yeah, I was just being sarcastic.

OKAY, the people are running away, good, there will be only left the terrorist,
send them one of our plane loaded with the food of the islamist ready to die for,
demolish their road by plane only and loaded on a circonference big enough
to get them all in hell,
it work in the old days, did we learn anything?
the past strategy has worked, we are suppose to have evolve?
NO WAY, AND WE HAVE REGRESSED INTO A MISERABLE PEOPLE,
UNDER A MISERABLE COMMANDER, killing only our braves,
THESE FIVE DO NOT POSE A THREAT TO AMERICA?
SURE SURE YOU SLEEP WELL, AND GO SHAKE THEIR HANDS,

As the mullah himself said, Al Qaeda is on their heals and Detroit has been saved!! Oh yea and VA Medical Care is better than ever and you can keep your health insurance and/or doctor period!!

I’m so glad that the War on Terror is over and we have won….

“I’m so sad that the War on Terror is over and they have won….”

There, fixed that for you.

It appears as though Obama’s claim about GWOT being over with is contradicted by his own State Department which acknowledged an upward trend in terrorism. The momentum was on our side when he took office. Now the momentum rests with the bad guys.

Comparing GWOT to the Cold War, imagine what would have happened had Truman and Ike had the same perseverance as Obama. Think about what would have happened if Truman would have turned his back on Berlin or South Korea. From the start, Bush told us this would be a long hard fight that would last well beyond his presidency and even that of his successor. He was the first President to draw the line with terrorism and confront it just like Truman was the first to draw the line with Communism and confront it (I would argue that the Cold War actually started after WWI and not WWII but that’s a topic for another day). Both were called “stupid” by the left. Winning the Cold War required the perseverance of all the Presidents after Truman. The first one up after Truman was Ike. Ike continued with Truman’s policy of containment. He didn’t declare the Cold War over with after Stalin died in 1953 nor did he revert to the laid back mode and tell everyone the CW was over with just because we won in Korea. Obama did exactly that with OBL’s death and the initial success of the drone strikes.

The 2008 election was a critical one with regards to GWOT just as the 1952 election was critical to the outcome of the CW. Stevenson’s campaign portrayed him as being the intellectually superior one and Ike as being of moderate intelligence, a theme the Obama campaign used in 2008 against McCain. While McCain had his shortcomings, he had, and still has, a far better grasp of GWOT (as did Romney) than his “intellectually superior” challenger did. 2008 was a pivotal election with regards to GWOT just like the 1952 election was pivotal with regards to the CW. Unfortunately, America got it wrong the second time.

Obama has two years left to reverse the setbacks we have suffered on his watch. Bush was able to reverse the setbacks in Iraq by adopting a winning strategy (the Surge) and by putting the right people in the right places. Now we’ll see if Obama can do the same. If not, OBL’s prediction that their side will prevail because the they were more committed to winning than we are, may very well become a reality.

SENDING BACK the TERRORISTS 5 OF THEM,
seem to have empower the other clan of terrorists, they are marching happy<
from knowing they might end up in the GISMO for a calm vacation all paid of ,
fed and clean up faster then the VETERANS IN ALL THE SITES OF HOSPITALS OF AMERICA,
yes the prisoners can see a doctor the same day they feel pain,
AND THE VETERANS MUST WAIT MONTHS AND THAT IF.
THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PUT ON THE DEATH ROW,
BUT THE PRISONERS CAME OUT OF THE PRISON FATTEN LIKE A GROUP OF TURKEYS, ON THANK’S GIVING DAY,

Obama just spoke about why he’s not made any decision to help in Iraq.
He’s a well-known ditherer.
Too bad Maliki didn’t know that.
Today Obama said he has to take into consideration ALL the possible responses.
Not just the few effective ones, not just the few legal ones, ALL possibilities.
And, until he’s finished doing all of that, NOTHING will happen except bloodshed.

yes< he has to ask the UN IF THEY AGREE,

The USA is evacuating Americans from Iraq.
Three plane loads have already left.
A few hundred more Americans are at an airport north of Baghdad waiting for planes to get them out.
A few contractors are staying behind to try to help Iraqis man the drones and fly the fighter jets.

The war on terror is by no means over.
But when it heats up against Americans again, it will hit us unarmed civilians at home like it did on 9-11-01.
No more American ”targets” of trained military men and women who are well armed at the front.
