In the middle of the 2012 Presidential campaign it was easy to end a war:
President Barack Obama came out swinging at his Republican rival over the issue of Afghanistan on Saturday and Sunday but may have swung a bit too hard, making claims more sweeping and definitive than what he’s previously said on the subject.
After slamming GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney for ignoring the issue during his speech at the Republican National Convention last week, Obama said he had put the U.S. on a sure path to military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“I put forward a specific plan to bring our troops home from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. We are in the process of doing that right now,” Obama said Saturday during a speech in Sioux City, Iowa. “And when I say I’m going to bring them home, you know they’re going to come home.”
During a stop Sunday in Colorado, the president was even more categorical, seeming to promise a pullout of 100 percent of U.S. troops in Afghanistan by late 2014.
“We are bringing our troops home from Afghanistan. And I’ve set a timetable. We will have them all out of there by 2014,” Obama told an audience in Boulder.
Joe Biden in 2010:
It will not be a token amount, but the degree to which we draw down — if I can make an analogy to Iran, excuse me, to Iraq, which I’ve been put in charge of — What happened there? We signed three years ago an agreement with the Iraqis saying that what we’re going to do is two summers ago we’re going to draw all combat troops out of the cities, populated areas. Then we said that our administration, we’re going to draw 100,000 troops out the next summer, and we’re going to be totally out.
In the meantime, we’ll help to build a government. We’ll transfer responsibility and we’ll be gone. That’s exactly what we did at the recent Lisbon conference, NATO conference, where we said we’re starting this process like we did in Iraq.We’re starting it in July 2011, and we’re going to be totally out of there, come hell or high water, by 2014.
Fast forward to 2014. Obama:
“The bottom line is, it’s time to turn the page on more than a decade in which so much of our foreign policy was focused on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq,” he said in comments from the White House.
The 9,800 troop level will be cut in half in 2015, and when Obama’s presidency nears its completion at the end of 2016, he said the only U.S. troops in Afghanistan will be those guarding the U.S. Embassy there.
Obama pleaded victimhood as the excuse for another Obama empty promise. Making guarantees is easy. Presidentin’ is hard.
“I think Americans have learned that it’s harder to end wars than it is to begin them,” Obama said. “Yet this is how wars end in the 21st century — not through signing ceremonies but through decisive blows against our adversaries, transitions to elected governments, security forces who are trained to take the lead and ultimately full responsibility.”
As though none of us ‘muricans ever seen no war buhfor. Barack Obama is, was and always will be a liar.
Biden, on the other hand, is still a clown:
It’s not the first time Biden has ended up on the losing end of a White House debate on Afghanistan. In 2009, he pushed for the president to drawdown the more than 50,000 U.S. troops that were there at the time and transition to a smaller force focused on a counterterrorism mission.
Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates was critical of Biden’s push for a smaller troop presence in his memoir Duty, saying the vice president had been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
If staying is the right thing to do, then it should be done. I doubt anyone wants to see Afghanistan fail after all of the US losses but the politicization of the war, his empty promises, for his re-election goals is typical of Obama.

If you want them to stay i am pretty sure taht is a minority viewpoint among Americans. Of course Afghanistan IS in desperate need of doctors, whether our troops are there or not.

Frankly I think he’s using Afghanistan to diminish our troops, and thus American influence around the world. It’s another front on this Administration’s war against America, and the effort to usher in a post-American world.
If Obama wants to be done with Afghanistan, be done with it now. No residual force. No extended withdrawal, which is his plan. No one is advocating, here at FA, to stay in Afghanistan indefinitely. What has been advocated, is if you commit troops, you’d better win it. Winning in Afghanistan has not been an Obama priority, never was.
All of the success in Iraq has been pissed away. While it’s not back to what was happening in 2005-06, it’s getting there fairly fast. Obama wants to say all of our efforts, the losses, in both theaters, were in vain. There really was no success. It is what he believes.

EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE shows me that, unfortunately, I was correct. Even liberals can’t explain why they think it is OK for obama to want a civilian security force that is as strong as the military, and will be equally funded.
I noticed that the casualty chart in the story you linked to shows more deaths in obama’s first year than ANY year under Bush, and that only ONE year was LESS than ANY of Bush’s years, yet the propaganda media doesn’t report this. This tells me that they are now part of the process of turning America into a non-free country, just like we infiltrate other country’s news media to help turn that country into a more free type of county.

When I also saw his wedding ring, it reminded me that it is the same ring he wore in college, and some say it has the muslim saying, “There is no god but Allah” on it. Even if this story is false, this is still the same ring he had on while he was in college, and before he got married, so it means more to him than a wedding ring. Why?

Paying a ransom will only encourage them to take more prisoners, and it will also encourage them to hold prisoners longer in hopes of getting a ransom EVENTUALLY. As I mentioned before, look for more kidnappings of American military, or even civilians. They figure if it worked once, it will work many more times.
This could even be obama’s plan. More kidnappings means more of obama’s friends released from Gitmo. This could be an indirect way to close Gitmo by not having any prisoners left.

I hope you are right, but I doubt it. Even republicans keep making the military keep bases they no longer want or need, because the politicians wants the jobs and money that comes with a non-essential base. They even make the military buy products the military doesn’t want, because the purchases will help a business in THAT politician’s district or state. We need to get the politics out of the military.

The commander knows exactly what he is doing, and things are going along with his plan. Keep in mind that before ANY prisoner is exchanged for one of our military, congress has to be notified, but, as usual, obama doesn’t feel like he has to obey ANY law he doesn’t like, so he never notified congress. Will the republicans go after him on this issue? I doubt it. They haven’t stopped him from making up his own laws, or from not obeying existing laws.

Keep in mind that obama does and says NOTHING except what his puppeteers tell him to. The unions are donating millions of dollars to the obama and other democrat campaigns. I think they are FINALLY figuring out that they have been duped by the puppeteers, and that the obama administration is just using them to get their money.
When they found out that their unions will be under the same rules as the rest of us, even though obama PROMISED them they would be exempt, they found out that the Great Liar was lying to them. How dare him lie to the unions! They should have gotten obama’s promise in writing, instead of trusting the Great Liar. I am amazed that they didn’t have a problem with him lying to the USA, but when he lied to THEM, that was wrong.
Many others, even democrats are finding that the Great Liar is a great liar, and they are starting to turn against him. I hope it is soon enough, and that there will be enough of them to stop obama’s goal of bringing the USA down.

Don’t expect much to change. Keep in mind that the politicians decide how much the VA gets, and they have always voted hundreds of millions of dollars for their district or state, but can’t find money for other things, such as the VA. The problems at the VA have been going on since I can remember. When presidents are briefed, they are told of the problems at the VA. Both Bushes were told about it, but other things were more important to ANY politician. Keep in mind that the politicians keep voting to keep military bases open that the military doesn’t want, and to buy stuff that the military doesn’t want.
The idea of going to congress to change things ended long ago. We have generation after generation of political families who never worked at a job except in politics. They don’t know how the average person lives, and they don’t care. They are in congress for themselves.
The only way things will change is if new people get elected that actually try to change things. Will they become politicians after they find out how much money they can make, and how much power they can get? Probably. That is why term limits are needed.

I can’t vote for who a party will run for office, so I don’t get too involved in who will or should run until they have picked their candidates. At least one of the ones you suggested will be good is in favor or common core, unless they changed their mind.
